I feel like, this is probably your best piece that conveys the premise between this two being "Yeah, here's a fucked up vampire. But lo and behold, somehow we found a less put together fellow and now the vampling is the responsible one. Terrifying, yes?" I also find this extra hilarious because of well, his poor relationship with Gale. You'd think they could bond over this!!! :)

Honestly, I just enjoy the catharsis of Astarion getting to make faces and be weirded out. Like on an abstract level, liking your SOs musk or....I guess corpse smell....is something that's pretty harmless. Like we are animals at the end of the day, and it hurts no one so I cannot be arsed to care. But it's really sweet to get to see Astarion be allowed to have an opinion. (The 'what do I want' slowly being answered.) It's character maturity in the sense he's being allowed to grow. Oh and he doesn't have to be sauve and sexy while doing it. He can pull faces and just be a sass Queen!!! Not in a performantive way either, more the banality of some people are just like that and life will move on. Plus also Drow is huge. It tickles something in my brain that Astarion gets to act the way ge wants aroubd such a big dude without fear.
