The Expanse Announcement (Patreon)

TL;DR I am cancelling Expanse recorded watchalongs and edits. I will create an Expanse channel on Discord where we can chat about the show and books, and I’ll post my thoughts & reactions over there.

Hi, all. I’m so sad to share this, and have been sitting on it for a while. It was a tough decision to make, but I will be halting Expanse watchalongs and edits.

As most of you know, I’m a fulltime gaming creator. I play 3 games at once, and balance both recording and streaming gaming content.

The reaction channel was a happy accident. Caleb and I started watching Arcane (based off of LoL), then Marvel movies (after getting hooked on Spider-Man games). This led to DC content, and then other random movies when we felt like it. We ended up recording and posting so much that we needed a separate channel.

The Expanse came about after trying to find something to watch during an uncapped subathon. The first season were Twitch watchalongs and super casual. I often find myself comparing myself to other fulltime reactors who post the Expanse, and I have to remind myself that I’m not a fulltime reactor. Boy, have I been hard on myself like I am! The more days that pass and I don’t post an ongoing show? I promise, I get so anxious and feel that I’m letting you down.

The Expanse, being such a long, intense, detailed world, demands for a dedicated reaction channel. Unfortunately, there is not enough time in the day for me to continue this series. That, along with constant copyright issues, and some volatile commenters on YouTube (especially with recent seasons), led to this choice.

Please know that this was a really tough decision for me to make. I plan to read the books and continue the series. I will create an Expanse channel in my Discord where I’ll let y’all know when I’m watching it, and we can discuss. I think it would also be fun to do watch parties for significant episodes. Book talks will also be over there. This series means so much to me, especially sharing it with you; I simply can’t record the full watchalongs.

I’m so sorry. I really hope this betters my content in the long run, and focuses my mind on the things that tie back to the main channel. If there are any folks that recently subbed just for future Expanse videos, please lmk and I will try to get you a refund.

I appreciate the heck out of you, especially those who’ve been here from the janky Twitch watch parties. We’ve had some of the most moving discussions, and I hope we can continue to do so! I love y’all and thank you in advance for your understanding. ❤️

Aw, Meg, this makes me so sad. I mean, it's totally understandable, but I was so looking forward to seeing the back half of this show through your eyes and I'm going to miss that, a lot. So for purely selfish reasons, I wish you hadn't made this decision. I know it had to be hard for you, but also, I can't say I didn't see this coming. When you mentioned a few episodes ago that you had nobody to edit these anymore, I kinda figured it was the beginning of the end. Unless you managed to teach your dogs how to do video editing. Because they do seem to enjoy the show. But without opposable thumbs.... yeah, that probably wouldn't work. Seriously, though, as everyone else has said, you have got to put yourself first, and I would rather you enjoyed this show in your own time than continue to react to it out of some misplaced sense of obligation and end up hating it for that reason. Still gonna miss you, though. I'll try to pop in to the Discord now and then... I've loved the discussions we've had here on Patreon and on YouTube about some of the weighty issues this show deals with, and if there's any chance of continuing some of that there, I'm down for it. But it still ain't gonna be quite the same. Hope to see you again down the line. Thanks for the love and care you put into everything you do here. It's appreciated.

I do get excited for your Expanse reactions because you have such an empathetic take on the show which is often missing from so many others. I am happy to watch on Discord if you continue there (I feel like that is where I found you first anyhow!) I know you will love the rest of the series and the ending. It will be uplifting in the end. You must take care of yourself, that is the most important thing. I wish you well in everything you do and glad you have such a lovely partner in life as well.
