Salsa. The name of this episode, "Delta-V", is the physics term for a change in velocity. Maneo comes to a stop, and the show *really* starts to take off - mainly because they knew SyFy would not be renewing them after this season so they went for broke these next 7 episodes in hopes of attracting a new streaming home (and did, on Amazon Prime). Also, AWESOME catch on Naomi's code switching!

Excellent as always, Meg! Though I must say, you must have asked "what is going on?" more times in this episode than ... well, ever, that I can think of. LOL But that's pretty normal. I think, of all the episodes in all six seasons of this show, you could definitely make the argument that this episode right here throws more unfamiliar stuff at you all at once than any other. It's pretty jarring, and you are not the first to have noticed it. This is the beginning of a new story arc, as you know (and the beginning of the events of the third book), and you've got a whole bunch of new people to figure out and a whole lot of new mysteries to solve, so you're bound to feel a little lost. Don't worry, it'll all come together. This show always does. And besides, though I'm not going to tell you where, you've figured out more at this point than many others have. Which doesn't surprise me in the least! But not to worry, all of the confusing/ambiguous characters --Klaes Ashford (the ex-pirate and Drummer's new second in command), Melba (the apologetically murderous maintenance tech with "superpowers"), Monica Stewart (the journalist) and Cohen (her blind cameraman), and "Miller" (or maybe not Miller) -- all of them will come into focus in time. And I'll bet you fall in love with at least some of them. But we'll see. As to Maneo (the self-absorbed slingshot racer) and Evita (his not so loyal and somewhat vapid girlfriend), they are pretty much throwaway characters (almost literally in Maneo's case) and neither of them is particularly... sophisticated? Smart? Eloquent? Yeah, so... not feeling any attachment to them or to his story is not all that unexpected. He is pretty much a "red shirt" on a show that has very few red shirts. He was there mainly to advance the plot and introduce the mysteries of The Ring. Otherwise, he doesn't matter all that much. I do like his music library, though. Bumi has never looked so debonair. Looking forward to the next one!

The Belter cover of the rock song Highway Star at the start of the episode is really well done. The new character Klaes Ashford is played by fairly well known actor David Strathairn. He was in the Spielberg movie Lincoln as Lincoln's top advisor, he played journalist Edward R. Murrow in the George Clooney directed film "Good Night, and Good Luck." He was the bad guy in "The Bourne Ultimatum". He's been in a lot of movies and tv shows. It's pretty cool the Expanse got an actor of his caliber. Ashford gives off very sinister vibes, but he says all these aspirational and reasonable things. There's the funny contradiction of a Belter pirate who made his money stealing and robbing now telling Drummer that they all now need to follow a system of laws or rules. At this point the crew of the Roci must be famous across the system. They saved Mars, they saved Earth from Eros, and they arrested or killed the perpetrators of the Protomolecule experiments. So I think that's how Ashford knows Naomi's backstory. Now that they're famous it seems like people would dig into their lives and discover their histories.

Gotta say Meg, I'm watching a bunch of different people react to this show at the moment and you're the one I look forward to most, so keep it up! Ashford is a very interesting character and you'll find out more about him as the episodes go on (obviously!) But I've always interpreted the reason he interrupts Drummer when she says "After that!" is because he knew she was going to say they'd be spaced or something to that effect, but his whole point in the conversation with her was that they need to start obeying the rule of law, so he stepped in to say "Will be court martialed and sent back to Ceres for incarceration on a prison barge". Did you also notice how impressed Ashford looked when Naomi brought in that skiff from its spin? He realises how good of an engineer she really is. You'll also find more out about Melba and what she's up to, but this is my one disappointment with the adaptation from book to show as her storyline is much more fleshed out in the books as they had to cut a lot of her story from before we first meet her in the show. But you'll get to know her eventually! They put book 1 into 15 episodes and book 2 into 14 episodes, but because they felt they were going to get cancelled they decided to cram book 3 into 7 episodes meaning it's only the real meat of the story and is at break-neck pace from here on out. Next episode gonna be wiiiiiild, can't wait!

Meg. I really hope you'll read the books someday, because the show is like an alternate version and made up stuff that aren't anything like the books. For instance, Monica was very professional and she and the other female member of her crew had to deal with Amo's sexual advances until she shut him up with just mentioning Baltimore. I love the show, but twisting Amo's character will always be a sore spot for me. Yay! Miller and Drummer are back. Can't wait for u to watch the rest of the season.

Great reaction as usual. The only yhing I want to say about "Miller's" appearance - remember that Holden never saw Miller's hat Miller left it behind on Ceres when he left for Eros.

Lmao! Thank you for this! I sensed it was a whole bunch of set up :) they gave us quite a treat at the end there tho.

Ohhhhh, gotcha! He knew she was gonna be a little too extra and protected her 😂 damn, this is an interesting character.

Gosh, I loooooooove Drummer/Cara Gee's Belter accent! "Wellcom to the BehEmoTH!" - "I chhad chhis name tattoowed around de wouund." Not sure, it sounded in the beginning as if you didn't notice that the "jellyfish" became The Ring, because you were talking about Maneo flying to the Jellyfish on Venus... But yeah, the Jellyfish became The Ring, so still only one giant protomolecule structure. And yep, Thomas Jane was in the intro credits which is why we wanted you to avoid them, otherwise you might've not screamed as much as you did 😜😂

Just a quick point, Ashford cut off Drummer because she was about to say something like "After the next shift, anyone caught dealing will be executed/ spaced!" Ashford then cut her off to say those caught dealing would be dealt with in a more civilized manner, ie. a court marshal and jail time. It's still a bad look that he cut off the Captain in front of everyone, but I do think it's good to understand the duality of the scene. The scene showcases some of the good and the bad of both Ashford and Drummer. It's also an interesting play on usual tropes, with the younger character here being a bit more stuck in tradition and the older character claiming wanting to change.

David Strathairn is also in A League of their Own (if you haven't seen it, DO!!) and one of my indie favorites "We are Marshall" based on the true story of the Marshall University football team. I love him and I love him even more for being on The Expanse!! As others have explained, all will be revealed but this episode is jarring coming off of E6. I especially love the next episode and cannot wait!!

All your questions are valid. The things you don't know are because the show hasn't told you. Yet. Hang in there.
