Early Happy New Year Everyone. Eowyn is the niece of Theoden and sister of Eomer. 😊

Robert Traeger

Enjoy these feeling Alicia. It's never quite as strong on the 2nd watch

Kriscerosaurus

Alright, y’all, home stretch. Everyone got your manly tear absorber of choice? Let’s do this thing.

Billy Green

"You bow for no-one" gets me weeping every time

Chibi Potate

A neat thing at 4:50... Although is slightly weird in the film, Because they use a "man" instead of Tolkiens "Man" which always made it a bit more clearer, But the Witch King had an immunity to blows from "Man" as in, Humankind, not just Human Men, Which is why our beloved Girl-Boss there, While able to deal a killing blow, And rightfully deserving the Witch-Kings death on her personal kill-count, Is only able to do so after that glorious Heel-Stab from a Hobbit. Explicitly not apart of "Man"

Xalfiew 123

just curious, will you also be watching the hobbit films too

Raskilion

I think that, if you decide to watch it, you'll LOVE The Hobbit

Kinji

There are so many stories I love but I can't help but feel like Lord of the Rings is the greatest story ever told.

Kampela

The Witchking had prophecy, no man could kill him. It took Merry with a ancient relic to break Witchkings protection, rendering him weak as well as Arwen to deliver fatal blow. Merry is short man, so in a way he is not considered a man in old way of thinking. Witchking sadly had last middle finger to his killer: A curse that would weaken them 'till death. There comes Aragorn with his healing power. He wields magic but only uses it to heal. At one point The Ring tried to corrupt Sam while they were at Mordor. It whispered into his ear what kind of great Garden he could make with Rings power. It showed Sam a vision of Mordor being covered in flowers, vegetables and fruits. To this Sam noted: "It is grand sight, but who would have time to take care of it all." Sam was able to resist Ring by looking with eyes of humility, being happy with little. Heheh, there was an Cartoon Movies made of Lord of the Rings. In it Orcs who were marching toward Black Gate were singing and after Whip Master found Frodo and Sam and took them into his squad to march. Later they were moving toward road where squad leader of human warriors, allied to Sauron, were also marching and demanded human go first because they are better. Sam still disguised as an Orc went to Whip Master and pretty much started a Race War between Orcs and Humans who follow Sauron XD Gimli and Legolas, from being racist towards each other to being friends and ready to die side by side. Such a great way to build these characters who were in books mostly a veteran warriors. After The Ring fell with Gollum into lava, it ordered Gollum to keep it safe and then used all its power to protect itself from being melted. While this was going on, it beckoned Frodo to fall down and throw it to safe spot with Frodos last moments. But Sam kept hope alive in Frodo! As Frodo chose to survive The Ring ran out of power to keep itself protected and melted away. Oh and that tower holding Saurons Eye, that was "miniature" and what i heard, a guy stayed at studio making that scene, scene he had one attempt at, during Christmas. Three Eagles, one for each traveler. Yes, one was meant for Smeagol. Tolkien was writing sequel to Lord of the Rings, but it seems he never found story to make, its theme or such. Only thing we currently have are some plans he had and ONE surviving chapter. We don't know it this was what he was most proud of or was it one he forgot to destroy.

Kampela

Gimlis actor had allergic reaction to prostetics they put to his face, you can see many scenes where his face looks odd. Even from this, he pressed on to make this movie. O7 to him, he suffered for art!

NoPointToTry

First time watching these and it was an amazing journey!! Glad I could watch along with you.

Kampela

Slightly about The Hobbit movies: They had multiple directors and you might spot this when you watch it. But mostly people don't like how they stretch a story that would had made more sense as a two movies but made it into trilogy, adding scenes and stuff.

Kampela

Another odd thing: Tolkiens stories set in Middle-Earth are owned by multiple parties. From Wikia: "The film and merchandise rights for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were sold by J.R.R. Tolkien, and are currently owned by Middle-earth Enterprises, formerly known as Tolkien Enterprises, a company currently controlled by Embracer Group, while the television rights of these two books remained with Tolkien Estate. On 13 November 2017, it was announced that Amazon Studios had acquired the television rights of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, committing to a multi-season television series. The series is not a direct adaptation of both of these novels, but instead it features stories that are set before the events of The Lord of the Rings. Amazon said that the deal included the potential production for a spin-off series as well. The press release referred to "previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings". Amazon is the producer in conjunction with the Tolkien Estate itself, The Tolkien Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema." No one at moment have rights to stories of First Age, for they at least at moment are guarded as Tolkiens most loved work. I bet many would like to make film of Beren and Luthien, a romance story of a human man and a elf woman. If you are reading this Alicia, i can suggest you reading at least this part of stories. Luthien is also considered badass woman, as during First Age, bloodiest time, Luthien goes to Sauron and in middle of his lair pretty much says "Where is my husbando you Morgoths B***h!"

PotterBrony

One of my favorite bits of lore is about Sam’s daughter Elanor, played by Sean Astin’s actual daughter Alexandra. Elanor is considered to be among the fairest and most beautiful of hobbit maidens. So fair in fact she’s often thought to be a young elf girl at first glance. She goes on to become Queen Arwen’s personal hand maiden.

Bradley Canning

Im Glad you enjoyed this great journey through my favorite story of all time. Lots of love and love your reaction.

Robert C. Dona

14:57 this is exactly me and my older brother whenever we do laundry, we even quote the scene!

Robert C. Dona

The film location for the last battle was (i shit you not) a literal minefield. The extras said that when they fought they spotted a mine two feet from there left and moved away while fighting .

Houston

You should consider listening through the credits when you get a chance, it's a really good listen and fits perfectly with the emotion of the ending and the imagery is interesting to look at. And now you gotta watch the Hobbit trilogy next, the extended ones of course.

Tetzder

goat movie nothing can compete

Zip The Turtle

There was so much passion and effort put into these movies. Between the attention to detail, practical film-making, and good story, it is unlikely we will see another like it. It was the last of a dying breed, and a masterpiece of it, even with it's age.

V_VMat

5:18 Damn right they did! "I am no man" is such a badass line, especially when it was prophesied that no man can kill the Witch King. (but woman can, like you said) 7:40 Gimli just salty he didn't kill an Oliphaunt 😂 9:30 He did. o7 38:40 Aragorn's speech is so badass! "It is not this day!" 42:18 Sam IS the real one! 51:20 Gollum had his role right until the end... 1:04:50 "You bow to no one" is such a powerful scene 😭 1:17:40 I think it's beautiful ending. This movie is SO GOOD and it well deserved every Oscar it got! 1:23:00 Oh the soundtrack for all the films is just master class, so good! *chef's kiss*

Gustaf Hillertz

alicia please its only on 40k ork are fungus, now where else. XD

HubertNNN

Your feelings towards Smeagol was quite the roller coaster. Bad smeagol, good smeagol, bad smeagol, good smeagol, bad smeagol.

Oji Dono

imma skip the anime one, but thanks for reacting to this, Tolkien is a real one. i might check out the hobbit ones for some specific scenes.

Noah Benden

also sam has like 13 kids, so he takes rosie to pound town

Michael Mavis

This may put a smile on your face Alicia, Samwise Gamgee and Rose "Rosie" Cotton had 13 children: Elanor the Fair, Frodo, Rose, Merry, Pippin, Goldilocks, Hamfast, Daisy, Primrose, Bilbo, Ruby, Robin, and Tolman (Tom).

Yadokari

Fun fact. Originally Merry, Pippin and Sam got their swords within Barrow tombs on their way to Rivendel, which sadly was cut from the first movie. Those swords were literally crafted in ages past to fight the Witch King. The pain he felt from that sword was unimaginable.

Michael Mavis

It was a combination of Eowyn and Merry stabbing him with a Westernesse blade found in the barrow downs (left out of the movie) that broke the protections on the Witch King: “No other blade, not though mightier hands had wielded it, would have felt that foe a wound so bitter.” so… ancient magic, a hobbit, and one impressive woman. :)

Lightinger

Sam was also alowed to take a boat before his end because he carried the ring for a bit. Before gimli died of old age Legolas smuggled him on a boat with him. That was a serious crime but because Galadriel is a fan of Gimli he was allowed to stay.

The Silent One

The prophecy is not "no man can kill him." Glorfindel prophecied that "No man WOULD kill him."

The Silent One

So, btw... in the novel, the story doesn't go "return to shire -> Grey Havens". There is a whole additional chapter of events there... The scouring of the Shire. Basically... Saruman, in the novel, didn't die in Isengard. He was allowed to leave with Wormtongue and had, even before that, sent henchmen to take over the Shire. The vision in Galadriel's mirror in Fellowship? that literally happens in the book, just without orcs. Merry, Pippin and Sam lead the retaking of the Shire, while Frodo is a bit on the sidelines (still important, though).

Matthew Wilmott

And Return of the King would go on to win every single Oscar it was nominated for.

Nikolaus Trixner

Fun facts: Sam and Rosie go on to have 13 children in total, Elanor being their firstborn daughter. Sam was also the mayor of the shire for 7 consecutive terms, each of which was 7 years long. Pippin marries and has a son named Faramir, and becomes Thain of the Shire. Merry becomes a historian and also has children. Merry and Pippin are laid to rest next to Aragorn in Gondor. After Aragorn's death, Gimli, who became the Lord of the Glittering Halls (the caves in Helm's Deep) and Legolas build a ship and sail to the west themselves. Faramir and Eowyn marry, and become the rules of Ithilien (the land between the River and Mordor) Eomer takes over as King of Rohan.

Waffel_Weapon

I really hope you'll watch the Hobbit movies. They are just as amazing (especially the extended editions) as the lotr ones.

Chronos Hoffman

I can’t say I agree, but they are a pretty fun romp, if you don’t think about it too much

Yeetus

If you love the world of middle earth you should 100% watch The Hobbit, in my humble opinion.

Usually Shalune

Such amazing movies. The parts of the hobbits make so much sense and are even more emotional knowing these stories were inspired by Tolkien's experience in World War 1. Simple, kind people thrust into horrible situations where they only have each other. T_T <3

DudeTrue

"CALL HIM A DICKHEAD" lol I'm dying

Some Guy on the Internet

The scene of Aragorn healing Eowyn has significant meaning. In the book, so as to not appear to be usurping leadership, Aragorn does not immediately enter Minas Tirith following the victory. Instead, he camps outside, sneaking into the Houses of Healing at night to heal the wounded. This fulfills a prophecy long held in Gondor that "The hands of the king are the hands of a healer, and so shall the rightful king be known." Also, when Frodo mentions how the Ring is "such a weight to carry," he means that literally. Not only is the Ring mentally taxing him, it also becomes physically heavier as they approach Mount Doom. It's why you can see the chain digging into Frodo's neck.

Hhound42

And the extra eagle for Smeagol, alas. "You bow to no one" done, and done.

Nikolaus Trixner

Yeah I didn't want to add too much. And no, I didn't forget that merry and pippin are buried next to Aragorn.

NegativeArms

Now for The Hobbit movies!!!

GingerBardMan

Theoden's death breaks me every time. He can finally lay down the shame he's been carrying over the death of his son, the destruction of his lands, the suffering of his people. From the outside we can easily see his decisions were made based on the information he had at the time, and were always for his people's sakes, but he has felt so inadequate next to Gandalf and Aragorn. It's bittersweet seeing him finally able to be at peace with his own life and death.

leviathan_13

So... one DOES simply walk into Mordor? XD I don't know if it's a meme, a theory, or a fact, but I love the interpretation that Gandalf sent 3 eagles because the third one was for Smeagol... So, you watched Star Wars, LOTR, Marvel, and anime now... Alicia's nerdification is now complete? :D

Randomocity732

As long as you dont watch RoP you will have a good time. Not as great as these 3, nothing will ever compare, but RoP specificly is the worst cross of bad filler and awful fanfiction.

Some Guy on the Internet

Those influenced by the Ring never truly recover from it. Even Frodo stills holds a desire for it deep down. Both Frodo and Bilbo will forever hold it in at least in the back of their minds, suffering from its lasting effects. However, as ring-bearers, they are allowed to journey into the West, where they can at least spend their remaining days in reflection and peace. Even Sam, when his wife Rosie passes away from old age, would take a ship and sail into the West, where he reunites with his dear Mr. Frodo, largely due to his part in destroying the Ring, but also because he too briefly held the Ring, making him a ring-bearer as well.

TheGodofCruelty

Well almost I guess, still missing Doctor Who, Star Trek, Big Bang Theory as well as an actual DnD session, maybe have her struggle with some 4D Chess and she'll be at the point of no return

Le Karibou

The irony of it is, in the end, in the volcano. Nobody could've actually dropped the ring in the fire.I'm not entirely sure, but I even think it's been confirmed by either the author or his family afterwards from his writing notes. It was Mount Doom. The place where it was made. Where it was strongest. No one could've resisted it there. And so, it was destroyed, but half by accident. The whole journey was still as important. But facts remain the same. For all he wanted and he did, Smeagol was the one who destroyed the ring. I agree there's a level of bullshit to it. But I can still really appreciate the wonderful irony. This movie is one of my greatest loves. GODDAMN THIS SHIT IS AMAZING.

GingerBardMan

So now that spoilers are no longer possible, an important concept to add context to Frodo not destroying the ring: It has been heavily implied by Tolkien and his son that it is literally impossible for anyone to willingly destroy the ring. It's why Galadriel warned Frodo back in book/movie one, and why Frodo was so insistent that the fellowship HAD to be broken. It was an actual factual guarantee that every one of them would have fallen to the ring eventually; Boromir was the first, but he would not have been the last. This is also why it was so important that Gollum be with them in the end, why Gandalf felt the touch of fate so strongly regarding him (when he mentioned to Frodo that Gollum had a part to play). Gandalf couldn't forsee the ending, but he knew it would never be as simple as Frodo throwing the ring in the fire.

Niravathu

The Ring's grip on those who have held it never diminishes, never fades, and it never stops hurting. This is the reason Bilbo, Frodo, and later Sam after he lived quite a good life in the Shire, are allowed to go Valinor, the Undying Lands. Only there can a ring-bearer really find peace. If I remember correctly Merry and Pippin live long and happy lives, eventually being buried next to Aragorn in Minas Tirith. After having many adventures together, Gimli and Legolas also head to the Gray Havens, making Gimli the first Dwarf ever to be allowed passage there.

Sonithy

Yeah you need to listen to the end credits song if you haven’t already In To The West is up there for best insert song of all time

Crescent Method

And the Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan approached Viggo about being buried together too lol

GaimeGuy

Yes, aside from Melkor, sauron was the greatest of the ainur at bending others to his will in a battle of wits. And aside from Aule, he was the greatest Smith along the Ainur. So, good luck throwing awau a trinket with that kind of enhancement and willpower behind it at the peak of its influence (Mt doom)

Jammy

The Hobbit trilogy is definitely worth watching imo, if only for more Gandalf, and Martin Freeman knocks it out of the park as Bilbo. They're good fun, from the perspective of someone who hasn't read The Hobbit anyway, and I think we would all love to see your reaction regardless.

The Silent One

not quite accurate: The prophecy, spoken by Glorfindel, is that "No mortal man WOULD kill him". But that is less interesting from a movie PoV, so they adjusted it to "CAN".

The Silent One

A hobbit who, in the novel, had a dagger forged in Arnor specifically to fight the Witch King.

Dopamine Cloud

Opposite of bullshit I think. The human heart simply can't overcome greed, there is no miracle of that kind. But greed can self destruct, and all good nature needs to do is set the stage to allow it. That's an uncommonly nuanced answer to a darkness that most stories tell you to either just pull your bootstraps at or give up with blasé cynicism.

GaimeGuy

It is infuriating that both Sean Astin and Elijah wood were snubbed from oscar nominations. Sean's performance speaks for itself but Elijah has such a difficult job. Most of frodo's battle is internal, incredibly difficult to convey off a page, but he nails it.

Jake Hansen

I think you would enjoy watching The Hobbit if you do decide to watch it. As far as I'm aware, most complaints that I've heard about The Hobbit stem from it's accuracy to the book. The Hobbit is the shortest story when compared to The Lord of the Rings books, but it ended up getting made into 3 parts. So there's a lot of liberties that were taken and several movie only plots were added to pad that run time. I personally think it's a good trilogy but not as good as The Lord of the Rings.

Tanner Saadi

In the books it much more heavily conveys that Frodo was not the same afterward and was a shell of a person. Important context, Tolkien was a WW1 vet who fought in the trenches. It is clear that his experience of the war and how people suffered PTSD afterwards shaped the themes of the Lord of the Rings.

Swan Ronson

As someone who has read The Hobbit, they are good fun and absolutely worth the watch. The pacing can feel a bit off because the studio made them stretch it out from 2 movies into 3 coz money, and this one change they made makes one of the main characters look like an idiot for no good reason, but I still really enjoy them.

Random3x

Bits that happen after LOTR and are explained in the appendixes of the books. Merry and Pippin would visit Aragon often and in their elder days when they were really old men they travelled for one last time and were buried near Aragon in his tomb. Aragon when he became King of Gondor needed to establish a new royal family name. As he was trying to decide Merry and Pippin kept chatting with him and calling him Strider (i.e. his nickname when they first knew him). When the Gondorian nobles asked why these hobbits kept calling him that he decided screw it and took Strider as his royal family name. Something in a very Aragon fashion he found hilarious. Gimli and Legolas went on a bros journey around middle earth showing the cool stuff they wanted to show the other. Gimli even made his own kingdom in the glittering caves (caves behind Helms Deep)

Toasted Toad

I have not yet watched your reaction, but I'm reallhy looking forward to it. When I do, I'll likely post a comment more relevant to what you have actually said, but in the meantime, this is a general comment: Some people complain that the story did not end at the narrative "climax" (ie Ring destroyed, Aragorn crowned king), but Tokien was very aware that life does not end there. The characters have to go home again. And his own experiences in the (First World) War, where he lost almost every single friend in the trenches, taught him about long term effects of tragedy and PTSD (although back then, they did not call it that, and very little was known). Merry and Pippin become heroes in the Shire. Sam also has a long and very happy married life. But Frodo never recovers. His symptoms are clearly PTSD (although rendered more mystically). I am a mega LOTR nerd, and could happily spend hours going through all of this. However, I am aware that it would be of no interest to anyone other than LOTR nerds, and I would advise them, if they don't already know about it, to listen to a podcast called "The Prancing Pony Podcast" where LOTR fans go through the whole book paragraph by paragraph, page by page.

The Silent One

i honestly thinkt hat the could've made 3 movies work. Mainly if Warner Brothers had just allowed the crew to do their work, without meddlign (too mcuh, in a bad way). Like no "focus only on these characters" and allow all the dwarves to shine and such.

Toasted Toad

Oh, I'd love to see what her reaction is to Doctor Who! I don't know whether she's ever tried it.

Toasted Toad

I expect she will, but she really shouldn't. The Hobbit is a fairly short children's book, which they attempted to expand to 3 LOTR length films. There simply isn't enough original material, and they made some absolutely horrible changes and additions. Any fan of the books loathes the Hobbit movies.

cyberspacecat

I really loved watching these again with these reactions, there's so much of the third film especially that I forgot and felt fresh to watch again, it's such a beautiful and epic story and a masterful adaptation.

Vegvisir92

"My friends, you bow to no one" And on that day Hobbits stood higher than any in Middle Earth

Steve Cushman

there's a theory that gandulf brought 3 eagles for frodo, sam and gollum

GaimeGuy

Also Faramir is formally made a prince, so if aragorn's line is ever ended, kingship will transfer to faramir's

Nikolaus Trixner

@GaimeGuy He's made Prince of Ithilien, so it's really just about Ithilien. Prince Imrahil for example was Prince of Dol Amroth (The island near the delta of the Anduin). He was a member of a line of princes that ruled even when the king was absent, and Imrahil himself participated in the ring war. Principalities (countries ruled by a prince rather than a king) exist.

MeatBeater9000

I watched it the other day, and yet again, every time, LotR makes me weep. god...

GaimeGuy

It's particularly bad in the scene where the fellowship reunites at the end. His eye is completely swollen shut

Jonathan Canfield

"You bow to no one" makes me cry everytime. This is such a great series of films.

Yuul B Alwright

The movies are perfectly decent for those that haven't read The Hobbit, I'd say. It's just if you are a long time fan the extras are REALLY noticeable, and also in general it has the misfortune of comparing against the original trilogy. It is undoubtedly a step back tho, in every aspect, compared to LotR. That doesn't mean it's entirely bad, tho. It has its good moments, Cumberbatch as Smaug and Martin Freeman as Bilbo were perfect in their roles. If LotR was the purest of gold, The Hobbit is like silver coins where half the coin is made of lead. Still pretty good value, but definitely suffering from inflation (quite literally in this case given the bloat that the movies were given). If you boil it down to its essential bits the movie would be a solid 8, unfortunately with the bloat it becomes a 6,5. Watchable, imo, even enjoyable, but not fantastic, and arguably not good either.

TheMuffinMan

And so passes Théoden, King of Rohan, lord of the Riddermark, last of the second line of kings, first of his name. May he find honor in the halls of his fathers. R.I.P Bernard hill out king you will forever be missed😢 12/17/44-5/5/24

Auren Valdari

You should definitely check out the Hobbit Extended trilogy at some point.

Jp Whittall

Samwise "The G.O.A.T." Gamgee is the only living thing to ever give the ring away by choice.

Scrubthulhu

I've seen these movies so many times and they still make me cry every time. Especially the ending to this movie specifically.

Gonk

The thing about the chamber in Mt Doom is that it is the spot where the ring is at it's most powerful. Literally nobody would be able to resist the power of the ring enough to throw it in. That is why it was only able to be destroyed by accident and why them saving Smeagol at every opportunity was so important.

Aerowind

So to inform a little on Gandalf's weirdness. Wizards are basically angels sent to Middle Earth to beat back Sauron (Sauron and Gandalf are the same type of being). So when he's talking about what happens after death, he's not just blowing smoke up your ass. He's describing the actual afterlife. Also Aragorn has some healing magic which is how Eowyn lived.

John

In my personal opinion, The LotR trilogy is THE bar for quality film in general. The level of work, care, and love that went into these movies at every stage to come together in such a fantastic series is unbelievable. Its puts most of today's cinema to shame.

Chronos Hoffman

Sam is the absolute realest. It took a year-long journey to hell and back for him to finally get the courage to ask out his sweetheart.

Chronos Hoffman

I think that instead of bullshit, it's the only fitting way for it to be destroyed. It was the very greed and lust for power that the ring relied on so much to protect itself, greed and lust that it intentionally sought to corrupt people with, that ultimately led to its end.

MenacingScone

“Then you know that Sam was the true hero of the tale,' Sayna said. 'That he faced far greater and more terrible foes than he ever should have had to face, and did so with courage. That he went alone into a black and terrible land, stormed a dark fortress, and resisted the most terrible temptation of his world for the sake of the friend he loved. That in the end, it was his actions and his actions alone that made it possible for light to overcome darkness.” ― Jim Butcher, Changes

unknown organism

Yeah, I wish they elaborated a bit more on the fantasy aspects in these movies. They make magic seem far less prevalent than it is.

unknown organism

So the reason Sauron was so confident in his plan and never posted any guards in Mt. Doom is because once they’re that close to Sauron’s seat of power it’s literally impossible for anyone to resist the ring’s temptation. Sauron likely assumed that Pippin was the Ring-Bearer based on how ring-bearer was a hobbit and that a hobbit (Pippin) was somehow in Gondor. That’s why he fell so hard for it when Aragorn suddenly decided to attack Mordor, he thought that it was just the ring corrupting them.

No one in particular

RIP Bernard Hill, one of the great performances of our time.

unknown organism

The only thing I really don’t like about this movie is how they did the Mouth of Sauron so dirty despite him literally being Saruman’s replacement. He went from being a human traitor who tried using Frodo as a bargaining chip for the surrender of Isengard and abused his diplomatic status to provoke Aragorn to some scary dude with a big mouth who Aragorn beheads.

Andrew Mattle

The death of the Witch King is a huge deal. During the previous Age, the Witch King destroyed the northern kingdom of Arnor, a sister kingdom to Gondor. Glorfindel, an elf with the gift of prophecy, foretold that "far off yet is his doom, and not by the hand of man shall he fall". The Witch King actually taunts Eowyn with this knowledge BEFORE they fight; she replies with "But no man am I! You look upon a woman!" The Witch King falls silent in contemplation of this before engaging Eowyn in combat. Merry's contribution is equally important. The blade he carries in the book is one the hobbits got from a tomb just outside the borders of the Shire, before they get to the Prancing Pony inn. It was a special blade enchanted specifically for the purpose of being able to hurt the Ringwraiths, a lost treasure of the fallen northern kingdom. The blade broke spells that bound the Witch King's undead form to his will, giving Eowyn the opening she needed to deal the finishing blow. Both swords disintegrate afterwards, and Eowyn and Merry are afflicted with the horrible ailment the Nazgul inflict known as the Black Breath. They are healed by Aragorn's skill following the battle.

Faroth

And so, it become the most awarded movie on history along with benhur and titanic

Kap

How funny would it be if after the credits there was an extra scene of Sam entering Frodo's now empty home to clean it up and hearing someone step behind him. "Who's there?" he asks, raising his fists, to be answered by a voice in the dark, "Samwise Gamgee. I'm here to speak to you about an opportunity". Sam squints into the darkness only to be startled by a sheaf of papers flying at him and landing on the floor. Sam looks at the papers, his brow furrowing, then glancing from where the papers came to see a man in dark clothing step out of the shadows. "What' your name, sir?" he asks, unease clear in his voice. "Agent Fury. Though my friends call me Nick." Avengers theme begins to play in the background. The camera tilts down and slow zooms on the sheaf of papers thrown down earlier. We can clearly see S.H.I.E.L.D. at the top, with "The Avengers Initiative" underneath, all of it with the S.H.I.E.L.D. eagle logo behind it.

SweetCandle

Fun Fact: Frodo is the only member of the Fellowship that did not, at any point in the trilogy, take a life.

musky and moist Mike

fun fact the writer of the books this movie is based on JRR Tolkien was a world war 1 veteran and wrote this story after coming home

Joseph Sternglass

Smeagol and gollum are my favorite characters in the book. In the movies you can more easily tell he'll betray them than in the book. It goes into his internal struggle.

Artemis

The witch king knew how very specific magic and prophecy can be

Bsceptile1

Fun fact: The only words Legolas ever says to Frodo in these movies are “And my bow”

Artemis

I definitely hope we get the hobbit soon. Tho I know she said the next one is going to be war of rorhirm probably cause it's shorter So its easier to fit in a recording of it

Vincent

when Frodo is in bed he says everyones name except Legolas because he doesn't know his name because they never spoke XD Merry and Pipin where buried with Aragon when they passed away and the 2 actors want to try do the same in real life but Viggo Mortensen (Aragon) said no but are still trying to convince him

Ben Gross

The heck Alicia? I was expecting a way harder reaction to the ending there, you cried over everything else, no hate, just I balled my eyes out the first time I saw this, and you were just so calm and collected through the whole ending there

Ben Gross

Also, if you hate having a show mess with your feelings by killing people off, DO NOT watch Game of Thrones, they build up a plot over 1 or 2 seasons, then they kill off a bunch of people and basically start over, main supporting characters too, not just side characters, and the ending is complete bullshit. Like imagine all the times through these movies where someone almost died, but you know they can’t because they’re essential to the plot, not Game of Thrones, they just say fuck the plot, and kill people off anyway or one of the characters stab the other in the back. And that’s the ENTIRE show, including the end of it

WillGlacier

In my opinion, still the the best movie / movie trilogy ever. I legit have no complaints about any of the LoTR movies. They are all awesome

WillGlacier

I don't get why people liked the show to begin with. The plot was mediocre and dragged on more than one piece dressrosa. Add to the fact the show cares more about displaying penises than actual plot and you got yourself a softcore porno with a shitty plot

Faroth

Sad fact: when gandalf take the eagles to get the hobbits from the volcano, there where 3 eagles... He was hoping to save smeagol too

Delek Master

Well, maybe Smeagol on the technicality of what lead up to him falling in the lava.

Yuul B Alwright

Not even fighting the goblins in Moria? I know it was pretty hectic there, but I guess it could be that he hid for most of the fight...

Yuul B Alwright

Sam is absolutely a massive hero, but this is also underselling Frodo's achievement. That hobbit bore the strongest magical artifact on the planet for months, having to listen to its sickly sweet allure, while crawling through hell on earth. The fact he came out of that with his humanity intact, though battered, shows he has strength too, of a different kind. And you can hardly blame him for not resisting the allure of it when literal kings couldn't resist it even with Sauron being greatly diminished.

Julio Castillo

Martin's style of writting is different from Tolkien, he himself have said that one of the reasons he decided to have so many character deaths in his story is because he hated that Gandalf came back in Lord of the Rings... cuz he felt it took away the stakes and sense of danger in the tale, which is a very valid Criticism. Also... yes we all know that GOT's ending was Bad..... but that doesn't take away all the good things it had..... Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 are still amazing (in my opinion).

James LeBlanc

So for a long time I had hated how Frodo just gives in to the ring at the end, but then it was explained to that no one could actually willingly destroy the ring, if someone were to try the ring would extert all of its influnce to prevent that. This is where this is importance in oaths and promises, when gollom swore on the ring that he would not harm frodo and broke the promise it was the evil and cruelty in the ring and the need to curse gollom for breaking the oath that drove gollom into the fires of Mt Doom. A poetic ending that the Sauron's own evil destroyed himself

Kosumi

So a couple things that you might be questioning after, without ruining any of the mystique. Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf, and all of the elves all went to the same place called the undying lands (basically heaven). The burden of the ring sank into Frodo's soul so much that he simply could not return to a normal, peaceful life. The One Ring has a legitimate will of it's own. It's always trying to get back to it's master and will gradually override the will of the person carrying it. Basically, destroying The Ring would require the same force of will as throwing yourself into a volcano when you did not even want to end your life. Frodo did NOT "fail" at the very end to destroy the ring, it was always an impossible task. Gandalf mentioned in the first movie, after they first entered Moria, that everyone has a part to play in this tale, and Gollum's part has not yet ended

Minibom22

Many have asked, "Why couldn't the eagles just have flown them to Mount Doom? It would have made the trip a lot shorter and safer". Well, apparently, the eagles are basically on par with demigods in power scaling. So, the ring would have had a far greater influence on them.

Seth

"You bow to no one." And then four hobbits stood taller than anyone in the world.

Ian Moscrop

Now that you've watched the movies, please react to Ryan George's Lord of the Rings Pitch Meeting videos. He's a really funny and talented guy from Canada who does sketch comedy.

Eviltwin01

This is an amazing reaction series, and I definitely ultimately recommend watching / reacting to The Hobbit extended trilogy as it is still a good movie and I would love to see a reaction. Not quite as good as the original trilogy but still a fun watch in my opinion.

Jimify

Oh, before you watch The Hobbit could you react to the The Lord of the Rings Behind the Scenes on youtube. its 2.5hrs of documentary on the LOTR trilogy its a fun watch and you'll get to see the great people behind the scene like the artist, designer, composer everything.

Luffyiscool

I don't think she picked up that the boat was bound for the equivalent of heaven, and the characters boarding were crossing over. It felt like she thought they were literally going on another adventure lol She might have had a different reaction if they explicitly explained to her what was happening.

Sir Gunter The Kaiser

The end for Frodo hits even harder because the whole "can't move past what you went through" was a real challenge for Tolkien, who was a WW1 veteran.

SilverWolf1293

FYI Alicia, Viggo Morteson (Aragorn) full on french kissed Billy boyd (Pippin) off camera during the Sam & Rosie wedding to try to show Sean Austin how to kiss the girl. Billy boyd was completely caught off guard by it and said he kinda fell in love with Viggo for a moment there because it was Billy's first kiss ever actually lol.

Jackson Bertoncino

What I love about this ending is that it understands what its like to come back from war and trying to pick up where you left off. Tolkien was inspired by his experiences in WW1 and you can really see that here. It's not your classic "and they all lived happily ever after", there are real consequences to going through such a traumatic experience as there should be. It's a bittersweet yet deeply satisfying ending. Anyway. great reaction Alicia! I greatly enjoyed re-watching this movie with you. I hope you get around to reacting to Hobbit films but also The Rings of Power at some point. It's ongoing Amazon series set in the Age directly before the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, and I think you would really enjoy it!

Able

If Lord of the Rings could be summarized poorly by a run on sentence it could be the following. "Heroin addiction is harrowing no matter who partakes, but the damage is certainly minimized if it's only a poor, weak, low status, innocent, racial and cultural minority that desires not to be anyone other than who he is exactly where he is at his most innocent and vulnerable. A quaint farmland boy surrounded by other farmers, foodies, laborers, drunkards, and smokers, looking after his uncle's ancestral home while his best friend pitches in to help maintain the garden on the property. Who would never even consider leaving home unless it was to protect it. Rather than one of the 100 different peeps in this dwindling universe who are holding onto MAGICAL, METAPHORICAL, *NUCLEAR BOMB LEVEL threats for powers and weapons and inheritance, who are now slowly having those powers diminish into nothing slowly, torturously slow, and all of them have to come to terms with it or rage at the dying of the light." - Me, Bitch (I am also Bitch) *I recognize that Tolkien was adamant that the ring was not an allegory for nuclear bombs, in fact the story was already being written well before anyone new about the bomb. But it was certainly informed by world war 1 and Tolkein's first hand experiences with that conflict. He stated that the ring is simply a physical, mystical, and magical representation of power, or more specifically its allure and the false promises it whispers in your ear and the feeling of happiness and freedom it makes you feel and promises more of even as it utterly destroys you and all those around you and all things that make life worth living

Richard

Amazing Reaction Alicia, this Trilogy was my childhood and I loved revisiting it with you. I highly recommend watching Hobbit, it’s not as good as this trilogy, but you can tell they TRIED to recapture the magic of the original trilogy. On top of that, Hobbit adds so much more background to Gandalf, Bilbo and Gollum, not to mention bringing up characters who are mentioned yet not seen in this trilogy. For example, Gimili’s cousin Balin is one of the primary characters in The Hobbit, and I’m pretty sure he mentions Gimili at one point, we also get to see Legolas again and learn more about his background.

HornHero

Been waiting since you announced it for this reaction and it was worth every second of waiting. Lord of the Rings will forever be one of the greatest trilogies ever made and I’m glad I got to watch your first time watching them.

Ian Moscrop

I think that theory is pretty well confirmed, because why else would a 3rd Eagle be there too? He just flew toward the exploding volcano for shits and giggles?

Ian Moscrop

Fun fact: the Pirate that gets accidentally shot by Legolas is actually the Director of the films, Peter Jackson. He did the stunt falling himself, too. And the Orc commander with the gross growths on half his face is the same actor who played Lurtz in the Fellowship of the Ring. His make up prosthetics were "allegedly" based on Harvey Weinstein's ugly face.

Xeno3998

I hope you also react to The Hobbit. It is not as well loved as LotR, but I think it is a lot of fun to watch.

Speed1247

My biggest gripe with this was the terrible tactics of the human army, they really went in with no plan in either battle. Also the fact that the orc army just ran at the end, it would have been nice if the humans had beaten them soundly cause now there are going to be thousands of orcs just running around middle earth.

Classified Jones

I see your point, but the whole plan was to distract the enemy. That's it. Aragon even states it in the movie. It was in hope, how very little there might have been, that the ring would be destroyed. Tactics be damned.

rrrebo

Gothmog, Lurtz, and also the Witch-king of Angmar. Same actor.

Reise M.Lukas

The thing I learned much later is that absolutely NO ONE in all of Middle Earth would've been able to throw The Ring into the fire. What led to the Ring's destruction was Frodo's Mercy towards Gollum and a small intervention from Eru Illuvatar himself (The Allmighty God of the LOTR universe) Eru Illuvatar almost never directly intervened in what transpired in Middle Earth but one of the few times was causing Gollum to fall into the lava, thus destroying the Ring

Michael

I wonder if Alicia has seen the Narnia movies? If not, it would be awesome for a reaction to the first and second movies of Narnia. Especially since the authors of Narnia and LOTR's were friends.

Mason Allen

Thank you for the reaction <3 I def recommend watching the hobbit movies. The story isn’t the lord of the rings, but it is one worth telling imo. Bilbo is absolutely fantastic

CrazyChameleon

Fun fact,: (Pallet cleanser for the sad fact below lol.) This is something that tolkien fans argue about a lot. But it's known that after sam's wife died (of old age after a long land happy life.) since he was a ringbearer he was also alowed to take the boat to the undying lands. We already know from the book that frodo was aging slower like bilbo. (He was fifty when he got on that boat!) There is a non zero chance that those two reunited one day, Both old men. I like to think it happened ..

DankusMemes

in the novel where sam carries frodo it says and i quote "His will was set, and only death would break it."

REI

I always wished the movies had the real final battle of the books "The Battle of the Shire". In the books, Saruman doesn't die from falling off his tower. He actually blames the Hobbits as part of the reason for his failure and takes over the shire with bandit men, enslaving all the Hobbits. When the 4 Hobbits come home, they have a wizard and full-grown men to fight against with no help. The 4 free the hobbits, lead a battle against the men, and corner Saruman. Saruman in his pride talks down to the Hobbits using magic only then to be stabbed in the back by Wormtongue (like he did on top of the tower). Also, I'm convinced the "no man can kill me" prophecy on the Witch King was meant to emulate Macbeth's "No man born out of the womb of a woman can kill me". In Macbeth a man kills him, claiming he was born of a C-Section (Which doesn't really make much sense). I feel Tolkeins wanted to fix this and be like, "You could have just used a woman".

hiddennijafist .

random LOTR Lore! (not spoilers) Death means something different for men and elves - when Eves die, they go to a place of rest but eventually can return to world - not reborn but as they are, they bound to the world. Men on the other hand, in death they journey beyond the world, what lies after is hidden to all. when Arwen chooses a mortal life, she chose to be separate from her father and kin even beyond death

Ian Moscrop

True. Also who is the voice of the Witchking? cus technically he talks to himself a few times in the movie.

Linnaeus

Yes. Also, "Till Birnam wood remove to Dunsinane" from the same play. In the play it's a metaphor for an army disguising its movements by wearing foliage and hiding in the woods, creating the illusion the trees were moving. Tolkien "fixes" that by having the forest ACTUALLY show up to end the siege at Helm's Deep.

Linnaeus

I strongly recommend reading the books. It's not perfect, but Tolkien actually does an excellent job of portraying the way medieval battles unfolded. It's just that it had to be massively time-compressed and simplified for the books (for example there's an entire defensive layer to Helm's deep, an earthern berm and wooden palisade manned by levies from the surrounding territory, that is completely left out from the movie, and the battle of Pelennor Fields and the Siege of Minas Tirith is very different).

Linnaeus

And now you know why RotK won 11 of the 11 Oscars it was nominated for (with the Best Picture and Best Director oscars generally considered to be more or less retroactive acknowledgement of the trilogy as a whole). It's tied with "Titanic" and "Ben Hur" for most oscar wins and is the record holder for the biggest clean sweep. I don't know that it needs to be streamed (though if you want to I'd love to see it), but the behind the scenes documentaries for this trilogy are amazingly well done and add a lot, and I strongly recommend watching them at some point.

RedRam-Ipsen

Something i feel is never really talked about is how Hugo Weaving freaking nailed it when he let Arwen go to Aragon at the end.

Daniel Gonzalez

Something I wish they hadn't changed was that the ghosts only helped attacking the Corsairs afterwards Aragorn and company (he actually had a bunch of his kinsmen join up that accompanied them through mountain) used the ships and went all along the coast picking up forces from the scattered villages and they win the battle not some CGI ghosts just magically fixing everything

MaddMind

I love that you guess a plot point for no other reason than Sam is a real one and you have complete faith in the man. xD

GaimeGuy

Although, he's talking about the arrival in Valinor. The Halls of Mandos themselves , located on the northrrn coast, go undescribed. Andthose who share in the fate of men? Their souls depart valinor to a destination known only to Eru Iluvatar after judgment.

Joseph Sternglass

Legolas only said one thing to frodo in the whole three movies

Lance Ivy

where theres a whip ...theres a way where theres a whip ... theres a way where theres a whip ... theres a way we dont wanna go to war today but the lord of the lash say nay nay nay where theres a whip ... theres a way

Matthew Harms

Always loved this movie out of the three. The feels get me every time, no matter how many times I see it. It is on my bucket list to go to New Zealand and tour the sites were they shot the movies.

GaimeGuy

Neither frodo nor bilbo were freed from the ring. Frodo continued to grieve over it, and experienced flashbacks and nightmares. Sam basically became frodo's caretaker until frodo and bilbo left middle earth. They left for valinor - basically the garden of eden - essentially to receive hospice care and heal their souls.

Brandon Porter

to further the "interference" of Eru there is the further theory that the true destroyer of the ring was Gollum. the reason being that in Tolkien's universe there is magic in oaths. Gollum swore his oath of loyalty to Frodo, by betraying that oath Gollum had to be Punished for breaking that oath, by the thing the oath the oath was made on. Frodo even warned gollum that he shouldnt swear on the Precious because the ring is a thing that betrays people. gollum swore on the ring and the ring in the end betrayed gollum. this scenario is the only circumstance in which the ring would be able to be destroyed. the reason its alluded to that eru directly was involved. the magic of oaths is a magic not of wizards elves or of evil but of Eru himself.

Silvia Dragoness

Alicia's effectively spent over 9 hours saying how everyone needs a Samwise Gamgee in their lives. Allow me to "yes, and" that statement. Everyone ALSO needs an Aragorn in their lives.

The Force

Correction to a comment on the previous one. Theoden's speech was one I memorized, but it was Aragorns speech I gave, I totally forgot his speech existed amazingly xD

Cameron Meow

I can't wait for you to watch the Hobbit!

Lazy Swordsman

Some more lore nonsense for anyone who cares, the fates of some characters after LOTR. Sam: Served as Mayor of the Shire several times (longest ever serving Mayor I believe) and has 13 children. His daughter Elanor becomes a handmaiden to Queen Arwen. Aragorn gives the Star of the Dunedain (A broach the Rangers of the North wear) to honour Sam in his role of Mayor. When Rosie dies Sam gives the Book to Elanor and sails West to the Undying Lands to see Frodo again, being allowed passage due to having been a ring bearer even if only for a short time. Pippin and Merry: Become the leaders of their families. Both get married and Pippin names his son Faramir (Who married Sam's daughter Goldilocks). They received many gifts from their friends (Such as Eomer and Eoywn). Both held positions of importance, Pippin being Shire-Thain and Merry being Master of Buckland, they where also both Knights of Gondor and Rohan respectively. Towards the end of their lives they travelled to Rohan and then Gondor where they remained til they passed away. After their deaths they are entombed side-by-side with Aragorn's resting place to honour their roles. Aragorn: Became King Elessar, a name granted by Galadriel, and ruled for 120 years. He reunited Gondor and the lost Kingdom of Arnor. Shortly after he was crowned he married Arwen. His reign was a Golden Age and aside from reclaiming old lands and fighting off threats it was also marked by great cooperation between Men, Elves and Dwarves. When his life was nearly over he went to the House of the Kings and handed his crown and sceptre over to his son Eldarion and bid farewell to him and his daughters before dying. Arwen: Became Queen of the Reunited Kingdoms. It was her place on the ship to the undying lands that she gifted to Frodo. A year after Aragorn's death she died of a broken heart in Cerin Amroth in Lorien and was buried there. Gimli and Legolas: Gimli became Lord of the Glittering Caves and lived with Legolas in the Land ruled by Faramir. They bring their respective peoples to Gondor to help rebuild. After Aragorn passed away Gimli was allowed to sail West with Legolas to the Undying Lands. Tolkien himself mentioned how unusual it was that a Dwarf would wish to leave Middle-Earth or that the Eldar would accept them but it is believed that it was granted due to the great friendship between Legolas and Gimli as well as Gimli's wish to see the beauty of Galadriel again (and it's supposed Galadriel persuaded the Valar to allow his entrance into the blessed lands). Eomer: Became King of Rohan and re-swore oaths of loyalty and friendship with King Aragorn. Also Eomer, who had a distaste of Elves, overcame his prejudice and came to see them in a better light. He eventually married Lothiriel, Princess of Dol Amroth, (a human with Elf Blood in her lineage) and had a son called Elfwine (meaning Elf-Friend). He expanded his realm, reclaiming lost territory, and rode to battle with Aragorn many times as Kings. His reign was great and he became known as the Blessed. Faramir: Was named Prince of Ithilien and married Eowyn in Edoras. Alongside the Prince of Dol Amroth he was one of the two highest ranking commanders under King Elessar. He was inherited the Family duty of Steward of Gondor and was a great man at Court as well as being Aragorn's chief Advisor. His grandson Barahir wrote The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen, a story of the great love of the two. Eowyn: Married Faramir and became the Lady of Ithilien. At her insistence Eomer made Merry a Knight of Rohan and she gifted the Hobbit the Horn of Rohan. She had at least one child, a son, with Faramir. I believe she became a Healer and a Gardener after settling in Ithilien. I think that's all the major characters but may have forgotten someone, or someparts, so forgive me if the above isn't complete.

Lucas_Oreki

"You bow to no one" is genuinely one of the greatest scenes in cinema ever. Throughout the entire movie reaction, I teared up several times when Aragorn was on the screen because the image of him saying that line popped in my head. This, and Sam carrying Frodo are legit the best moments in film for me.

Lazy Swordsman

The Hobbit isn't great but I believe it's worth a watch, just go in with lower expectations and let yourself enjoy it.

Samuel Rowe

Hobbit is basically Bilbo's adventures decades before LOTR. My main complaint about the movie is the Hobbit book is just a simple children's book about a Hobbit going on an adventure with dwarves and a wizard to defeat a dragon. But Peter Jackson tried to make it a big epic like LOTR. Extended the small book into 3 movies. That's not the Hobbit.

Malkalypse

Legolas straight up playing Shadow of the Colossus

JustRiver0o

The Hobbit is up soon!!! I'm so happy!!!

Kyle Junge

I think the Hobbit is overHATED, It's no LOTR true. The original book was meant to be more of a kids book, it had stakes, it had cool moments, it had emotional highs and lows but it was not LOTR and it wasn't trying to be. I think most of the criticism comes from Peter Jackson trying to make it something the source material was never trying to be. That said the movies still have great cinematography, epic moments, emotional moments, fun characters and are decent films in their own right even if they are not the best adaptations. Not on the same level as LOTR but well worth a watch IMO.

Kyle Junge

So it's been a while and i might be misremembering the details. But for the scene where Sam rescues Frodo in the tower and has the ring. One way the ring corrupts is by showing the bearer the way to accomplish the thing they desire most for the world using the power of the ring. Thing is what Sam wants most is for the whole world to be a beautiful garden where he can grow anything and the whole world is nothing but farmers and gardens. While that is what Sam wants, from a logical standpoint he realizes that is ridiculous and the world needs more variety and viewpoints than that to even be able to function. And so the rings temptation fails and he is rather easily able to give the ring back to Frodo. Like I said it's been a while and if my recollections is incorrect feel free to correct me but i think that is just a beautiful showcase of Sam's character!

Kyle Junge

Dunno if you're a reader but if you are then LOTR is well worth a read. I honestly think this is one of the best adaptations ever made but there is a lot in the books that just could not be adapted and yet is worth experiencing. If you are a reader in general then you should definitely check out the books!

Yurei Okami

I never tire of watching LotR. Every rewatch, I feel like a fresh breath of life fills my chest. It's the ultimate tale of hope triumphing amidst despair.

Vik Persson

I have a friend that I have know since university. We have now been friends for more years of our lives than not, over 30 now. We were there for each other's weddings and helped each other though divorces. We were friends before kids and after and now we both have grandchildren. He has been the best friend a guy could ask for and the kind of friend you know you don't deserve. He has been my Sam and I hope I have been his. If you have a Sam in your life be thankful.

James0Zero .

I could not have been more happy to accompany you on this journey. I was so happy to enjoy these movies again and see someone experiencing them for the first time. There will never be anything else like lord of the rings as a film. If you go to watch the hobbit trilogy as well, it's good, but it's no lord of the rings and I don't think anything else ever will be but it's still nice.

Colin Darcas

Is anybody going to tell her these orcs aren't fungi

CatGod101

frodos speech at the end about how you cant go back to how life was after experiencing something like war really hits harder when you know that tolkin wrote this after having served in ww1 and how his life and world would never be the same again

Swervin

57:18 The pre-watch allegations are thriving lol

Rueduciel

Every time I've watched the trilogy through diffrent ages, my favourite character always changes. When I was youngest, it was Legolas and Gimli, then it was Gandalf, then it was Sauron and the Balrog and now that I'm old, it's Boromir and Theoden

ParappaTheNappa

I cant watch the scene of Frodo waking up without remembering that theory that Frodo forgot Legolas's name lmao he obviously knows Merry and Pippen, Gimli comes through the door and he says his name, Legolas comes in, Frodo just stares at him, Aragorn comes in and he says Aragorn lmao

E TheRandom

now its time for the hobbit!!

GoatKing

I think you would really enjoy the hobbit probably

bbyjason

I think you should give The Hobbit films a go. While I don't think they are as good as the LOTR trilogy they are still pretty solid overall. Glad to be here and look forward to hanging with your community, keep it up!

Yuul B Alwright

I believe Tolkien came through the war pretty okay, but he undoubtedly had many friends that died or were scarred for life there. And he clearly remembered that time well. His description of the foot of mount doom really sound like how those battlefields looked.

Yuul B Alwright

It's pretty much like that, yes. To be exact, the Ring shows Sam a vision of Samwise the Strong, a heroic fighter who chases his enemies away, and turns this miserable place in a garden. Though the book states that first and foremost, his love for Frodo helped him to not fall to temptation, and that the realisation that that would be way too big of a garden for a hobbit came second. And with it comes the knowledge that all of those visions are fake and a way to get him caught. Of course, somewhat ironically, his love for Frodo turns him into Samwise the Brave instead, thereby fulfilling his hearts desire anyway. So in a way, even when not putting the Ring on, it held its promise to Sam. But yes, sadly the notion that the Ring would not tempt Sam because all it could think of was a garden the size of the world is not true. It knew Sam wants to help and loves life, and so it showed Sam's vision as exactly that. However Sam's love for Frodo proved an extra barrier to temporarily overcome the Ring's influence on top of his humble hobbit nature. Frodo was right though, the Ring would eventually have destroyed Sam with this desire.

Yuul B Alwright

The biggest problem I have with the Hobbit trilogy is that all the extra fluff is terrible filler. It would have been so much better as a 2-parter. The second thing that sucks is the overreliance on CGI. LotR has a nice balance between CGI and real shots, it does show its age at times but like 90% of it fits brilliantly, and the other 10% is passable if you don't look too close. The Hobbit however has a lot more CGI thats not that much better as it was a decade before, and so it's much more noticeable, and to make it worse is coloured extremely brightly, to the point it feels more like watching Skyrim than a LotR product. Combine that with ridiculous scenes that look less realistic than in LotR and also make zero sense (yes, Elves that jump over your allies' shield wall, I'm looking at you) and it's just a big step down from LotR. But in the sections that do matter the movies are great. Cumberbatch as Smaug is an inspired choice, Andy Serkis kills it as Gollum (again) and Martin Freeman really stole the show as Bilbo. It's perfectly passable if you don't know the books well, and if you do know them, you can probably do worse as far as Middle Earth movies and series go. It's no Rings of Power by a long shot.

Astral Dragon

I’m new to the Patreon and I decided to start with LOTR because I absolutely love the series. Your reactions were great and I cannot wait for you to watch the new animated movie and The Hobbit if you do because those are also amazing.

Gabe

That scene where all the orcs just start fighting and killing each other is a perfect showcase of why Mordor still hasn't won the war. Like the orcs are insanely numerous, but they keep killing each other instead of the enemies.

Peregry

The Swamp of the Dead in the Two Towers was apparently DIRECTLY inspired by the aftermath of the Battle of the Somme...

Tmac

It's been a blast watching these LOTR reactions. Will we be getting the Hobbit movies reaction as well?

Andy me

It was a bit more than that Peter Jackson was trying to erm, get away with stuff, basically he was trying to get as much out of what licences he had as he could so, he used the Hobbit to also include the extended stuff Tolkien put around the events of the hobbit. As in he showed what Gandalf was doing sometimes and that Gandalf was using these events to also remove a very big problem

Lv6 Esper

One of my favorite parts during the ending was when the hobbits all went to the pub. You see all the other hobbits being joyous and rowdy like normal except the 4. They sat down in silence just taking in the fact that they're home. Probably thinking about their journey and what they've all been through.

Mewant SnuSnu

The third eagle was for Gollum... :(

DrCatspaw

Why the hell am I crying more this time than I did the first time I saw this?! I blame you Alicia LUL

HKelnix

So GOOOOD PEAK MOVIE PEAK ENDING I also cry to that ending damn sooo goood Thanks Alicia such amazing journey!
