It seems like a lot of Ella Purnell's characters (Jinx, Lucy, Gwyn) have, shall we say, "complicated" relationships with their father figures. PS- I just started watching Prodigy myself after you announced you were going to be reacting to it. I'm looking forward to experiencing it alongside you.

Just please be patient. Some of our cast aren't the most likable until a few more eps in. Altho, form the jump, if anyone steps to Murph, we ride at mother f***ing Dawn!

The way this show was explained to me is that it's aimed at kids, who have, lately, gotten way more scifi animation in the form of Star Wars (Clone Wars, Rebels, etc) than Star Trek, so the introduction is intentionally a lot more Star Wars-y and then they sneak the Trek themes in gradually. Let the kids learn about the Federation at a gradual pace, the way the characters in the show do. It wouldn't spoil anything to tell you this takes place in 2383, so just a couple years after Lower Decks is set. Since you already noticed Janeway in the title screen, Voyager got back from the Delta Quadrant in 2377.

HAHA, I'm stalking you via Prodigy now! xD Random fun fact, I'm Welsh, and know Gwyn as a dude's name. It means white, or pure/holy/blessed. I wonder if they're doing it as a gender neutral name akin to Michael Burnham from Discovery ^_^ John Noble has an epic voice. I know him mostly from the Sherlock Holmes show Elementary. Could listen to him for days :)
