As Greg has already mentioned, this series does an excellent job of crafting unique characters, and we learn enough about each of them during the show to help explain the mental reason why characters react in certain ways. The best example I can think of right now is the rivalry between Melda Deitz, Gamilon pilot, and Akira Yamamoto, Cosmo Zero Pilot. In Episode 11, when Akira attempted to kill Melda in revenge for her brother, Melda is able to get Melda’s gun and could have killed Akira. But being a proud pilot, Melda challenges Akira to settle the matter as pilots battling each other in their ship’s cockpits. ------------------------------------ In this episode we are introduced to Herm Zoellik, Imperial Marshal and Inspector General for the Central Army. Zoellik when shown in this episode appears as a debased version of Lord Dessler. Even though Dessler also surrounds himself with female attendants, you never see Dessler grabbing and groping them

There are two princesses, Yurisha and Sasha, and one queen, Starsha of Iscandar. Sasha was the princess sent to Earth to deliver the activation module for the Wave Motion Engine. Yurisha, the third princess of Iscandar was sent a year earlier with the plans for the wave motion engine. I think it's safe to say at this point that when Warrant Officer Yuria Misaki removes her pigtails, she is being controlled by Yurisha's consciousness. There is a lot more to be said about Yurisha and Sasha, but I want to avoid further potential spoilers. Hopefully I haven't spoiled anything so far for you. Sorry for being so vague.
