First Test VR 360 Images (Patreon)
Content
Hi, here are two virtual reality 360 images from the Tifa and Aerith blow kiss scene.
You do need to have a VR headset to view this in VR, so this might only be of interest to people who already own a VR headset of some sort (like the Quest 1 or Quest 2, Playstation VR, Valve Index, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, etc).
I have tested them and they did work as intended on a Oculus/Meta Quest 2 VR headset. I dont currently have access to my PS4 VR headset, so I havn't tested them with that headset yet, but it should also work on a PS4/PS5 VR headset.
This is a useful article on how to transfer images from your PC to the Quest 2 headset. >>> https://store.facebook.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/headsets-and-accessories/using-your-headset/transfer-files-from-computer-to-headset/
On the Quest 2 headset file system, I put the 360 images in to a folder named "DCIM", which I think is already there by default, so you shouldn't need to create that folder. Then when you have the headset on, I used the Quest Media app to view the images.
In the past I had to inject meta data in to the 360 images I made, so that the programs can detect that it is a 360 image. This time I didn't do that and once I transfered the image to my Quest 2 headset, put on the headset and viewed the file, it automatically recognised it was a 360 image and displayed it correctly. So, I'm hoping I don't need to do the meta data injection stage anymore for programs/devices to recognise its a 360 image.
Sorry that was a bit technical. It can be a fiddily of a process, but I think it's pretty cool to be able to view a 3D scene in VR.
Please do let me know if you have a VR headset and give it a try, I'm interested to see what people think and if it works well.
I think you should also be able to view the 360 images on a flat screen like a computer screen or mobile/tablet screen (maybe via a 360 image viewer app?), but you really get the most out of these 360 images in a VR headset.
