This is the Infinity War/Endgame of the Whoniverse, the hype of seeing this for the first time in 2008 as a 11 year old doctor who obsessive was indescribable. Also, this cliffhanger was such a shock it genuinely made headline news in Britain at the time. Hard to explain how culturally dominant Who was here at that time.

The Mr Copper foundation, as I understand it, was founded by the guy from the Titanic that pretended to be an Earth expert and then the doctor let him live on earth with all the money from that card.

The Inedible Mattman!

I can’t wait to watch tonight! When this aired, watching Doctor Who week to week, there was NO preview for the next episode. Not until the following Thursday. And even then that was a teaser that didn’t give us anything! Such a great finale setup!

Lots of lore going on there. “The Dalek Invasion of Earth” is an excellent 10 part story in the first doctor era with his original companions. The Daleks literally tried to turn the earth into an engine and drive us like a spaceship lol. That’s what they referenced earlier about “world engine technology” the Doctor dealt with previously. We also saw Sarah Jane know Davros from her earlier days. “Genesis of the Daleks” is an excellent story in which the 4th Doctor and Sarah Jane travel back to the time when Davros originally created the Daleks. It’s widely regarded as one of the best stories of classic who. It asks a lot of interesting questions about the ethical boundaries of science and of war. If you were ever to go back and watch classic who, that’s one to put on your list. I love love love seeing all the companions together! It’s such a gift given to us by the show. Can’t believe you have to wait after such a massive cliff-hanger! As a side note, I hope you keep watching Doctor Who twice a week. No shade to Torchwood but it just can’t compare. Doctor Who is just in a sweet spot with this two-part finale and then the series of specials and then before you know it, we’ll be starting season 5 which is peak peak quality. So anyway, that’s just my preference.

As Katie Niekamp said The Doctor was referring to The First Doctor story "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" Now there were 2 films made in the 60's based on the first and second Dalek stories. The first film is called Doctor Who and The Daleks, and the second film is Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. In the second film there is a character called Tom, A police constable who gets caught up with the Doctor' as he stumbles into the Tardis thinking it was an actual police box. Tom was played by a young Bernard Cribbins.

Great reaction! Now imagine watching this as a middle schooler on Sunday night in 2008 and having to go to school the next day and wait a week to find out what happens 😭😭😭 Sarah Jane's child Luke and the Mr Smith computer are from The Sarah Jane Adventures, a torchwood-style spinoff show from this era aimed at younger audiences. So this episode brings back all the new who companions and crosses over 3 shows - Dr Who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures. Katie said this but to repeat, Sarah Jane was the companion when the Dalek's were created in-universe, so its extra harrowing for her. It really was like the MCU crossover of the time. Just for your scheduling purposes, S4 has one episode left, then there are 5 specials (like Christmas Specials, slightly longer).
