I wouldn't say it's "not canon" since the author did write the episode. But yeah it is content that is not in the LN. As for if the anime has a 2nd season, no announcements so far so I dont expect it to get a 2nd season within the next year or so even if they do announce something.

To this day, I am still confused if I am supposed to ship these characters. Yes, they seem like friends, but then you have Nukumizu dropping lines about people slowly coming to like each other over time like they seem to be doing instead of a whirlwind romance. I would be surprised if there is no season 2 given it's popularity, but then again, I said the same thing about 86 and that sits with no second season years later despite having enough source material for multiple seasons at this point.

I would hope that the series that won Best Light Novel this year and has been getting several reprints since the anime aired would get another season, but no news. Nukumizu also won best male character and Yanami (fittingly) won second best female character in that ranking https://x.com/makeine0718/status/1859793928096248310 Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) the source material is a light novel, not a manga, so it might be a little harder to visualise what's going on.
