you're right, episodes 1-9 really are more "how to get to murder" ;)

i think you mentioned last ep why someone as strong as annelise would stay with sam. keep in mind that sam was annelise's therapist and cheated on his wife with her during that time - so there had been a major power differential from the very beginning, even before her not being able to have children had driven a wedge further. it makes sense that finding out the woman he cheated with was pregnant was kind of her last straw.
