Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

OUGH- I adore the car scene with Greg and Steven and what it means for Steven and his understanding of the world around him at this point in the show... Because up until this episode, I believe the word 'alien' isn't used to describe the Gems even once. And even in the theming of the earliest adventures... the lines between fantasy and sci-fi are very much blurred... ARE the Gems really extraterrestrial, or just "magical denizens" of Earth? The audience gets drip-fed information over S1B that leads most to figure out it's the first pretty quickly. But Steven... oh, young, naive little Steven... is so busy being caught up in the euphoria and glee of getting to go on all his fun little adventures with the Crystal Gems that he never fully puts together the pieces himself. Not until this exact episode, until Greg passes him this blunt knowledge that he didn't even want to have to share himself. The Gems were INVADERS. They are ALIENS. And so, in a single car trip, the last of Steven's naivety is shattered. Absolutely HYPED for the next reaction!

There are a lot of really cool subtle moments in this episode. One of my favorites, oft-unmentioned: Jasper accuses Lapis of knowing that Steven was Rose Quartz, and Lapis says, "It wasn't relevant to the mission." That's...not a denial. Steven also showed his shield to Lapis during their fight in "Ocean Gem"; it's likely she recognized the shield just as Jasper did. She knew who he was, and she lied to Jasper's face about it, claiming he was just a human and she saw no sign of Rose Quartz at all. Major kudos to her for that, and major kudos to Steven for inspiring that loyalty by being kind to her.

I’ve watched the first two episodes of season 2, and what you said in this comment is definitely displayed in those episodes with Steven
