There are parts made for certain members (rapline get the raps, Chen/Baekhyun typically get the highest high notes, Kyungsoo a lot of adlibs) but they actually record a lot of harmonies, background vocals, melodies, and rhythms between them all (Sehun's harmonization is underrated). Sometimes they play around with what they're given. One of them said this was how Tempo's bridge became fully acapella because they were messing around with harmonies.

All of the 5 vocalists sang that “cream soda” part and used in actual song. Almost all EXO members know how they want to sing, so usually producers ask for their opinions “how was it?” “do you like it” etc.

It was EXO’s first ever recording behind the scenes, I need all their songs behind the scenes 😭 We have only 2 videos like this, next one is “Hear me out”s recording behind the scenes. Baekhyun just released his solo song’s recording behind, you can see how he wants to do that or this.

They have their own parts in the song, but the reason why you hear a lot of members singing the same lines is because they layer it for harmonies. To me, EXO harmonies is what makes exo songs so unique compared to other groups because it’s full of harmonies and vocal layering.
