So, the confrontation with a certain somebody ballooned out way past my original estimations, and things got a lot longer than I originally thought they would be. As a result, the trip to Mount Etna got pushed back a chapter so that we could have this for this chapter instead.

Can I just say, though? There were way too many instances of "wouldn't it be cool?" in canon Septem without any real thought apparently put into, "Well, how did so-and-so get there, and why there and then?" That's why, even if you recognize this guy from canon Septem, the reason why he's here now is different than the "just because" we got in canon.

EDIT: Moving down.

That was quite entertaining. And reminds me of a point I meant to make. The OC Servants do not in any way degrade the quality of the story. A personal part of me, however, very much enjoys seeing how Taylor’s presence, actions, and the butterfly effect from there effects the canonical stuff in addition to seeing her interactions with established Nasu characters. So it’s a personal thing I enjoy that I cannot get from OC Servants, but not something that makes the story worse.

I do wonder...why did you go with Rika rather than the typical Gudako?

James_D_Fawkes

Partly *because* "Gudako" is the typical fan name for her. But also because I didn't like the way that flowed off the tongue, and because I wanted to nod to the idea of the twins originally being one character that got split into two so that character didn't come off as bipolar.

This is the first time I'm really feeling iffy about a story choice, because I feel like this guy's canonical appearance was much less arbitrary than showing up here. Namely, because serving another king seems like something he'd want to reject as a matter of principle.

James_D_Fawkes

It was absolutely arbitrary in canon. Alexander's appearance in canon Septem was just as arbitrary and inexplicable, and they handwaved his presence in a way that just didn't sit well with me. Aside from that, though, serving Nero and Rome for the sake of fixing whatever problem is occurring isn't the same as swearing loyalty to another king. That Iskandar is the only man he will ever give his undying loyalty to doesn't mean that Waver would refuse to work under another person in different circumstances. You'll notice he doesn't really defer to Nero, for example.

Waver wasn’t from the timeline where EMIYA was Rin’s Archer? If so, maybe they didn’t mention it to him. Though it would fill in context for some things he might have overheard. I’m looking forward to him meeting Marie! (One thing both Waver and EMIYA are in sync about - their opinion of Gilgamesh)
