I’m happy you’re continuing Stranger Things. Coincidentally, Vince and Shoshana (The Perfect Mix) have just wrapped up season 2. Emme Reacts has also recently watched Firefly.

Ed Scoglio

Wow you're doing the extended editions of LOTR? That's commitment right there!!

Snax

Marshariki Bowie

Wait? YOU of all people haven't seen Snow White🤔 that is truly hard for me to believe.😅

So excited, Jax! You know that you can't really be a legitimate YouTube reactor until you've watched _The Lord of the Rings_ ! 😁

Outcast Spartan

Have you seen LOTR before? Is this going to be a blind watch of LOTR extended? That's going to be amazing!

Ian Rastall

Ride! Ride unto ruin! Ere the sun rises!!!

Definitely looking forward to continuing your Stranger Things journey at some point. While I was hoping for Ted Lasso to win the poll, Firefly will be a lot of fun to experience with you. You will laugh, and you will cry. But I am SO excited for Lord Of The Rings! I have loved this story for over 35 years, and I can't wait for you to experience this excellent adaptation of such a classic. I know they're quite long, but if you need a break in the middle, each one has a natural stopping point. When the Extended Editions were first released, they each had to be split over 2 DVDs. I believe even the streaming versions leave a significant black-screen pause at the point where the first disc ended. If you need to stop in the middle to stretch, refresh your drink etc. those are good midway points that are also probably easy to re-sync when editing the video afterward. Fun fact: my name is in the closing credits for all three Extended Editions. LOTR Movie fan club members who signed up for annual or longer memberships got their name in the credits for one movie per year of our subscription :)

Make sure you watch the Firefly episodes in the correct order! If I remember correctly, the pilot episode isn’t listed correctly!

Richard Maurer

Jax said she watched them as a child (theatrical version, most likely), which imo doesn't really count as seeing them. There's a lot happening in these movies that a child just wouldn't be able to understand.

Most streaming services have fixed the order over the years, so you should be OK. I'll list the correct order here, but you really only have to check the first one or two. If the service you're using matches, you're good. 1. Serenity (86 min pilot) 2. The Train Job (all the rest are 43 min) 3. Bushwacked 4. Shindig 5. Safe 6. Our Mrs. Reynolds 7. Jaynestown 8. Out of Gas 9. Ariel 10. War Stories 11. Trash 12. The Message 13. Heart of Gold 14. Objects in Space Feature Film: Serenity (2005)

Some non-spoiler background for Firefly that will make it more accessible to start(unless you've already started filming by the time you read this). 1. Firefly takes place in one solar system. There is no faster-than-light travel(warp drive, hyperspace, jump drive, etc.). There are several inner planets and many outer moons(orbiting gas giants similar to our Jupiter or Saturn). The inner planets tend to be richer in resources, so that's where the power lies. The outer planets/moons tend to be more frontier-like. Very much a Wild West vibe. 2. Firefly is set in a future(2517; or about +500yrs) where Earth's resources were used up and humankind started settling other nearby solar systems. The two nations that sent most of the expeditions were the US and China. Because of that, most everyone in this world is fluent in both languages and tends to interject Chinese into conversations. (In reality, the Chinese the actors use is atrociously wrong, but it's really just there for story purposes to allow swearing on network TV and also as a way to convey strong emotion.) 3. Along with the language thing, the writers also created some new slang words for flavor and yet another way to get around swearing restrictions. You can get most of them from context clues, but the most used are shiny=cool, shepherd=preacher, gorram=goddam, ruttin/humped=f---ed. Because of 2 & 3, I would recommend watching with closed captioning on, at least until your ear adjusts to the way they twist the (mostly) English language. And this might be considered a very mild spoiler by some, but no aliens or robots. This is a show about how humans treat humans.

I watched them when I was younger and thought they were good. But I was never that into them. It was only recently that I started reading the books and fell in love with this story! I've also never seen the extended version. They are so much longer than the original films!

reactswithjax

Thank you! This is really helpful! (I just saw my first Firefly episode and will be posting very soon!) I feel so much more prepared heading into the rest of the season now!

Your name is in the credits!?! THAT'S SO COOL! I'll look for you❤️ I am so psyched to share the LOTR journey with you. I'm in the middle of reading the third book now and I'm loving it. Also, Ted Lasso will see his day on my channel!

Patrick Egan

I didn't know you were reading the books, that's awesome! I don't think I've seen someone react to the movie who's actually read the books before, they usually come to them knowing little to nothing about the story. This is going to be really interesting to see what you think of how they adapted things for the screen. My first experience with them was around 5th grade, a few of my friends & I were reading them at the same time, we had something of a book circle on the school bus ride. I'll try to restrain myself, I could nerd out all day long about LOTR if I'm not careful :)

Patrick Egan

I know that Amazon and Hulu both have the episodes in the correct order. The biggest thing is to save the feature film for last, because of BIG spoilers. :)

Patrick Egan

Longer yes, but worth it especially if you're a fan of the original story. The EE of Return Of The King especially restored some significant moments from the book that I had missed in theaters.
