I am so excited that you are finally watching this show. There aren't very many reactions on it and I have pretty much watched them all by now XD I am glad you are enjoying it so far. Also Lucius's name, it's pronounced loo-sh-is. The i sound is like the i in lick rather than the i in like.

Jim was speaking spanish! And yes, Jim is a they/them enby. As a they/them enby myself I was so happy with the representation of this show, especially as an older gay. Also non-spoiler because history: the real Stede Bonnet did indeed go by "the Gentleman Pirate". There are historical accuracies in this show but it's has more fun inaccuracies, such as Stede reading Pinocchio, which wasn't published until over 100 years later, and Oluwande wears crocs.

I'm so glad you're enjoying these early episodes because I did too when I first watched and I think they're very underrated. They have SO many funny and iconic moments - I've literally been quoting so many lines along with the actors while watching lol! I think a lot of people went into it expecting "the gay pirate show" right off the bat and were impatient going through the first 3 eps because of that. But (and I think I said something similar in the comments for ep 1) they're really important for setting up Stede and his crew and getting the audience invested in them. I do think the next episode is my favorite of the initial first three, so I'm definitely looking forward to your reaction - especially the end of it :)

Fun fact: the historical Blackbeard reportedly lit fuses in his hair to make it LOOK like his head was smoking, scaring enemy sailors into giving up without a fight - which every ship he ever captured did. Also, successful piracy relied a LOT on reputation - pirates did everything they could to avoid destroying the ships they targeted, since the whole purpose was to get as many supplies/treasures from them as they could. Getting them to surrender non-violently without firing a shot was the best outcome.

Looking SO forward to you seeing this show 🙌 I was led to OFMD after GO shattered my heart to pieces, and I ended up loving this show even more than I love GO (didn’t think that was possible at the time!)
