I've had trouble categorizing Distro Delves episodes since I started the series.

I thought they were reviews at first. But I'm pragmatic and I know my use-cases only scratch the surface of what a Linux distro is capable of and I simply don't have the time to do complete end-to-end reviews.

A Distro Delves episode has a little bit of everything, even benchmark results. But if I'm not comparing distros against one another, what is the point?

I've started calling them "overviews" but a standard episode covers quite a bit more than what I think of when I read "distro overview".

When I watch my own videos, I find the parts where I'm just riffing and giving my own opinion the most interesting. And yes, I know how weird it sounds saying my own opinion is interesting.

What do you guys think? Are these reviews, overviews, or opinions? I'm thinking of "Opinion" pieces from newspapers and publications here. The writer has an opinion about something relevant and that's kind of what I'm doing in Distro Delves, right?

Maybe along the lines of a deep dive overview. That's the idea of an overview of something, trying to touch on all the basics of each of each catagory. I think an overview that is more indepth than completly superficial still counts.

I'd call it a review more than anything as that really covers all 3 to some degree. You're still giving a brief overview in your review of the distro. And since there's no such thing as an unbiased review you give us your opinion too.

The thing about calling them reviews is that people get really butthurt over what they think a review is, especially when they disagree with my opinion or whatever. It gets very tiring sifting through comments and being called names because someone didn't like what I had to say :(

Interesting, I haven't looked at it that way. I should have asked this question a while ago lol

No matter what you call it or how you phrase it someone is going to get butthurt over it. Many people are just looking for a reason to be offended
