DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE (1995) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Get IN! That's my afternoon sorted! Brilliant!

I am SO excited! Most reactors only watch the first movie and they miss out on this great installment. As much as I love the original, Vengeance was always the one my family and I rewatched the most. The chemistry between Samuel L Jackson and Bruce Willis is just too good. Their relationship added a lot more humor than the previous films. And watching them solve riddles around NYC is so much fun! Jeremy Irons played a fantastic villain, his brother Hans Gruber would be proud.

OMG I'm happy you're watching this, it's amazing, better than 1 imo. Gonna be a great watch

One of my favorite sequels to a franchise. Nice choice!

What a fun watch-through this was :) And great comments again. I had a feeling you'd love this film especially the Hans Gruber link. Irons is immense in this, as he always is. The Borgia's was a great series which never, unfortunately, got the ending it deserved but he was magnificent in it. But as I mentioned in my comments on Trading Places, the movie you need to see him in is Margin Call, which is a Wall Street movie which takes you into the heart of one of the corporations as the implications of the crash started to sink in ... his performance is next-level stuff, combining charm and steel, and fake humility which doesn't even attempt to hide his sheer ruthlessness. It's a horrifying look at the sort of cold blooded people that business is filled with. I love how you now rate this as your favourite of the movies :) Die Hard will always be my personal favourite but that's down to Rickman's genius if no other reason, this certainly has a lot more going on and I'm a huge fan of Irons and I can think of few other actors who would have held their own alongside Rickman ... what a shame we never got to see THAT film ... I think too that this is one of Samuel L. Jackson's best roles, and the chemistry between the characters is great. He's also been in some hugely under-rated films and for some reason seeing this I always think of his turn as a school teacher in 187; that's a great film, and his character in that is fab. But there's another movie you'll hear about in relation to him, of course ... Lakeview Terrace where he plays a cop who is ... a little intense? I won't even spoil any of that by telling you a thing about the plot beyond that; if others on here have seen it I'm sure they'd echo the recommendation. It was, as you say, great to see they used the sprawl of New York City in this film. Heat, as you will see, does much the same for LA, but not half as well as Michael Mann's other classic, Collateral, in which Los Angeles could almost be a character in the film, it is glorious and you should check it out when you've finished Heat, and it is well, well worth your time.

2023-12-22 17:24:55 Loved the reaction. I just kind of laughed when you guys mentioned the upgrade in technology. Can't wait for the reaction to 4. Definitely do the Unrated Version tho. This was originally a script for a film called Simon Says and had nothing to do with Die Hard. They repurposed it and it turned out great. You also mentioned the directing and cinematography being more like one. That's because McTiernan returned to do this one. He's one of the best action directors until he messed up his career over stupid stuff. Les Weisman directed 4 and I think he did a decent job of honoring McTiernan's style while adding his own.

YEEESSSS DIE HARD 3 TAKES THE CAKE!!!! and every other Die Hard after this is just Confetti!! (Hill House Ref.) but for real! I love this movie the MOST but I still fully enjoy 4 and 5.

One of my favorite Die Hard films. I sympathize with Simon's condition. My migraines are debilitating. Mine cause extreme nausea, vomiting, and sometimes I'll forget where I'm at the pain is that bad. I loved your reaction as always. I look forward to your reaction to the next one as well as many other films in the future. Have a Merry Christmas you two.

Glad you guys have dove into these. I commented on youtube but Live Free or Die Hard is seriously underrated and definitely worth the watch. Just be sure to get the unrated version. Part of the problem is they tried to make a pg13 Die Hard movie and that's not what it is so it didn't work. He didn't even get to say his yippee ki yay line but in the unrated version he does. Timothy Olyphant is brilliant. There are a few scenes that are beyond suspension of disbelief🙄 but it's still fun. Just remember, the unrated version is the way to go

Emily Smith

I agree 100%! Three is on par if not better than one. Don't get me wrong...the first will always be the OG... But Samuel L Jackson and Jeremy Irons...Amazing!

Emily Smith

I also love the fact that Samuel L Jackson loves the character he plays in this movie almost more than any other. The reasoning he gave was that it was the most like his actual personality and was most like he wasn't acting. - Which I could absolutely see him being like in real life!

TheMediaKnights

Yesss, the first one is just truly special! But this one?? We had a BLAST! The chemistry between the leads, the efficacy and calculatedness of the villain was just such a joy to watch!

TheMediaKnights

Thank you so much for such a fantastic comment again!! There are some amazing recommendations on here that we're adding to our ever-growing list haha. We absolutely loved the banter between Willis and Jackson, it created such a fantastic backbone for the story to evolve around!

TheMediaKnights

Thank you so much for the support, it makes us so happy to hear you enjoyed our reaction! We absolutely loved this one and cannot wait to react to the 4th one as soon as we can, and yes, definitely the unrated version haha. It's gonna be interesting for us to see what Weisman does with this character and the story!

TheMediaKnights

Gaaaahhh LOVE the Hill House reference, it hits in the heart every time! We absolutely adored this film and are honestly so excited to see the 4th one as well! Gotta see where the story takes us next!

TheMediaKnights

Man I'm so sorry to hear about your migraines. I feel you on that (Denise), my migraines are debilitating, like you, nausea and also blurred vision, sensitivity to sounds and lights... It's a nightmare. It's always interesting when villains have little conditions like this that humanize them and add layers to the character. Thank you for your support and have a wonderful Christmas!

TheMediaKnights

Wait, whaaat?? There's no Yippee ki yay in the unrated version, how did they let that happen?! We're definitely gonna be watching the unrated version and are so pumped for Timothy Olyphant in it!

TheMediaKnights

Haha no way?! That just makes it so much better, he seems like someone we'd love to have a pint at a pub with ahah. His character in this was just amazing, so likable, smart and sassy!

Melissa Creel

In the unrated version is where he does actually say Yippee Ki Yay. The pg 13 version they released in the theaters did not. That's part of the reason people didn't like it. They were like wait, what? Also it was like he wasn't free to be the real John McClane. Olyphant is a most excellent villain. There are also a casting surprise you will probably appreciate.😁

Jeffrey Miller

Hey, I just subscribed to your Patreon, and I'm glad you mentioned how "immersive" the cinematography is because I always felt like this was the only film that made me feel like I was in NYC even though I've never been there. Amazing atmosphere.

Ah I finally got to see your review~ I love seeing your final opinions, and having seen the opinions of the two previous movies I knew that you were going to like this third one even more, I personally considered the first Die Hard the best action movie, the The second is acceptable to me, although the change of director is very noticeable because despite being entertaining, it is very dense, but the third returns the director of the first and takes the best of the two previous films and easily becomes the worthy successor to The first, Jeremy Irons had very big shoes to fill and he managed it, only he could play Hans' brother, Simon is literally the opposite of Hans in every way, in the novel he gives us to understand that Hans had planted the bomb at school, that's why Simon says that he is not a monster, referring to the fact that if Hans had done it, he is just a soldier. That bad relationship that both brothers had is because they were extremely opposite in every way, and it all starts with the place of birth of both, Hans was born in West Germany, and Simon in East Germany, that was fundamental to define their preferences, going from colors to even tastes, one likes to smoke but the other doesn't, even Simon's weakness for women and Hans, well not so much~ I could write many paragraphs explaining their differences but I would beat around the bush, but the important thing is that Simón apparently "wants to avenge" the death of his little brother in addition to successfully carrying out the biggest robbery in history and demonstrates why he is the leader of the Gruber family. The original ending Simón and his men manage to escape , the ending that we saw in the film is a re-recording because it was anti-climactic, and the production company did not like that the hero became a villain. Here you can see the original ending: https://youtu.be/l-GqY-M5fE4?si=dkFW9SNgq480QeW1 I find it very curious that throughout the plot they try to show Simon as a merciless monster like his brother, but we already know that they are opposites, Simon is not very different from the McClane that we saw in the first film, but the most important thing is that the "with a vengeance" in the film's title isn't for Simon, it's for McClane. PS: I'll tell you a little story, I lived and studied in New York when this movie was being filmed, I remember that the sound of the explosions echoed throughout the city, that first day people thought they were bombing us, people are terrified Also, surprisingly, due to the recordings, they managed to close down all of Wall Street for two weeks, that was chaos but at the same time very fun, anyway dear I speak so much jajajajaaajja greetings! Xoxoxoxo
