I was sure that we would have the scene where John takes care of injured Fuji because of the end of the last episode, but Fuji is doing just fine a day after the earthquake, fine enough to enjoy sipping a tea and Mariko "negotiating" with the madam pimp lol I PROTEST!!!

I'm pretty sure it is hard to understand the suttle thing here and there for non Japanese speakers, but I am so glad you guys are picking up these nuances and enjoying this show. I was not the type of a guy who feels proud about my Japanese culture but this show makes me be a proud Japanese :)

For the context, SHOGUN is merely the military leader. But to some extent, it is also considered to be the leader who also runs the government. you know, like Napoleon in Frace for example. Taiko is the rank which will be granted to those who resigned from the ruler position, so to be precise, the Taiko in show is called Taiko because he is dead, but I believe he was already Taiko in the flashback in the ep2 so the studio might made a mistake but I'm not sure.

Hell yeah. Personally I'm not terribly interested in HoTD - I just haven't checked it out yet (ASOIAF reader and avid lore connoisseur/aficionado) so I'm stoked for more GoT. I'll prob check out HoTD for myself when you guys are finished with GoT. I've only heard good things.

I remember in episode 2, Taiko said to Toranaga, ‘Lady Ochiba once had the chance to marry you.’ Considering they’ve known each other for a long time and Lady Ochiba seems to understand him well and have complex feelings towards him, it makes me wonder if they were once lovers. It also explains why they seem so sentimental about each other's current situations.
