It's interesting seeing a bunch of people whinging about this show being chosen because I'm gripped by the cinematography, writing and themes in each episode. Every scene has multiple layers and as this is my third time watching it I'm still picking up new subtleties between characters which is the sign of a quality show.

Just some additional info about this episode. Why Did Toranaga Throw That Stone at the Gate, and What Does It Symbolize? In Shinto belief, the central space of a torii gate is reserved for god(s), and traditional customs suggest avoiding this path to honor the sacred. Throwing a stone at or placing it on the gate symbolizes a way of interacting with fate or seeking divine signs. For Toranaga, throwing the stone and aiming to land it on top represents his attempt to assert control and influence his circumstances amidst high stakes. This act embodies his desire to align with favorable outcomes, harness luck, and seek spiritual favor to navigate the impending conflict and political turmoil he faces. What is Seppuku, and What is a Second? (By the way, I highly recommend the movie Harakiri) After a defeat, a warlord has several options: flee, attack, or commit seppuku. Seppuku is the most orthodox method and was followed in 90% of cases. It involves admitting defeat and taking responsibility by cutting one's own belly, a practice highly regarded among the Samurai class. A second is meant to preserve the honor and dignity of the person committing seppuku. The swift execution of decapitation helps minimize suffering and ensures that the act is carried out with the proper respect and ritual. Despite the inevitability of death, the individual committing seppuku has the opportunity to decide who will act as their second, providing a sense of control over their final moments.

Cannon, to reiterate a part of the conversation between the brothel lady and Lord Toranaga, the brothel lady basically mentions that Toranaga is a competent lord which is why it "doesn't make sense" that he would make a simple mistake such as neglectfully letting the enemy in. Toranaga responds by saying that he is in a tough situation with the earthquake decimating his army, and that none of this is his will. The brothel lady then apologizes, says she's just a prostitute, and doesn't know anything, and walks away.... If you can pick up on the subtleties in that conversation, then the "stick of time" will make sense.

This show is one of the best shows on this entire channel. It can proudly stand next to the best shows ever made. So for people that say this show is boring... I have one very appropriate quote (from Game of Thrones, another best show of all time) that was said at one time for people like you: "Boredom indicates a lack of inner resources". So take that how you will. Or better yet, get to working on improving yours. You may yet be rewarded.

There has to be a twist(a grand plan) from Toranaka, right? And that's what Madam Pimp was insinuating, right? He let the brother army in, and made him and Ishido think he surrendered but acutually... kinda stuff. If you see it that way, that conversation between Toranaka and Madam Pimp makes a lot more sense in terms of story writing. There is no way they just add the scene where she just explained things make no sense and left like "I'm just a whore who knows nothing~", if it meant nothing.....rgiht?

It’s not that people don’t have the brain capacity. Some of us actually prefer text heavy shows but the pacing… it was positively GLACIAL. I can’t keep saying more because they haven’t finished but that ending… yeah be foreal. This show doesn’t even make it in the Top 10 on any kind of list.

If you guys do another poll I really recommend: The Glory, Weak Hero Class, All of Us Are Dead, Alice in Borderland, Twinkling Watermelon (romance, comedy but sentimental), Itaweon Class, King of Pigs, My name, Death’s Game. All of them are K-dramas and most of them are revenge or murder tv shows. But all of them are SO GOOD!
