I just went on a mountaineering expedition in Canada for an entire month. Was sad to not see gek videos but happy I can watch them all back now. It’s a Gaiden or “side story/tale”, and unfortunately it interrupts the flow of the arc it takes place in in the anime. The anime clearly did not know where to put it, and completely ignored the canon order. It doesn’t “ruin hype,” that’s thinking about it as if it takes place late into Shippuden. But canonically it takes place BEFORE Shippuden, it’s a separate piece. It perfectly introduces a character right at the start, who besides the 9 tails, was the first character ever introduced. His lore lingers throughout and we already saw what he looks like. They don’t show his arsenal besides FTG. Even the classic move isn’t shown. Gaiden perfectly teases the character, and it’s a beautiful parallel to the start of OG. In the manga (full disclosure I read manga first but had long forgotten the order), I felt like they didn’t show enough. But Gaiden in the show does it perfectly.

Also considering they’re probably doing a Shippuden binge, it would be even better to have the transition from KG (Gaiden) to the main storyline at the start. It’s a natural transition and a great hook. It adds mystery and makes a certain few episodes later on far more meaningful. It does not exist in the Shippuden storyline, and having it first is the most logical placement for it

Or a Television series with a big budget, but Hollywood doesn’t like to go all-in on an IP without getting some return profits. However, if a live action Naruto tv series was confirmed instead, the issues would be how many episodes would there be for the first season and what arcs do you adapt up to. I would like for the first season to adapt from the start to the Konoha crush arc, but that seems like about 20 one hour episodes and a huge budget for a first season, which rarely happens

jjk is also just largely influenced by bits of japanese folklore and such, as kishimoto is known to take inspiration form a lot as well,,so not to say it necessarily couldn't have played a roll as well since mangakas often take inspo from each other too, but those particular creatures aren't really note worthy in the verse and its more likely just from the overall culture lol

I think what you guys are missing is that chakra is like cursed energy the more chakra you have the more durable you are. So an attack that easily cuts through trees might only be a paper cut for someone with a lot of chakra or no damage at all depending on the amount of chakra they have. btw I’m sure they won’t just forget about 119/120, they always talk about the giant shuriken from ep 1 of OG and 120 isn’t really easy to forget 😂 the payoff of watching it first is enormous and we also won’t be interrupted from the arc where they randomly put it (the build up in that area is crazy, iykyk) and putting Gaiden there was a careless decision. It was out of place and cut the momentum. It also takes place way before Shippuden. Think of it as something that exists outside of Shippuden, which is the correct way and why it is between Part 1 and Part 2 in the manga.

Most stories/novels/ anything in the world can be told in a 100 eps or less if they really cut out most of the useless and not funny comedy scenes, even one piece will have a re-make with a total of less than 250eps if im not mistaken even though it a long and complex story, I love longer animes and naruto is one of my favs but the pacing and some tropes really kill the enjoyment sometimes, even though hunter x hunter is a little bit longer than classic naruto but re-watching hxh is so easy and fun compared to naruto

I think their discussions are after their full binge which is probably 5/6 episodes OR at the end of "arcs"...either way what I think I'm starting to see it's that he tends to want real life quick decisions but doesn't understand 1. Not everyone reacts the same way even in real life (there's actually taunting involved in real life crimes I believe) 2. He doesn't understand its still a kids show so they can't make it too crazy or too deep all the time hence cut the suspense in case kids are watching so they don't get totally traumatized. My opinion of course so I don't think he doesn't like/enjoy it's just a struggle of his own perception?

OG Naruto is incredibly boring and poorly paced. I was entertained by the Chunin Exams and attack on the Leaf, but I only kept going because I knew how good Shippuden was. It has its flaws, but it is much better than this and its peaks are high.

Definitely after the time skip it gets bad. I just finished Fish-Man Island and omg that was a chore at times. But I think that the pacing is actually pretty decent at the start of the show.

This is the issue with watching modern anime as your first anime's & then going back to the oldies. You can watch Naruto and enjoy the show, but the pacing will always be a huge annoyance that you can't fully accept or enjoy. JJK & other modern anime are clearly heavily inspired by Naruto, but they have the advantage of being extremely better at pacing. If I watched JJK first & watched Naruto after w/o ever experiencing 2000's anime beforehand I'd probably be the same as Carter & Cannon. I think Jack grew up watching DBZ (or just old anime in general) just like me, so he's used to pacing like this, therefore he can appreciate shows like OP & Naruto. What I will say is that Shippuden does a better job at introducing even higher stakes to the story, hitting emotional beats, & has a much more mature tone most of the time. There is 3 back to back to back arcs in Shippuden that make the whole of Naruto worth watching no matter how abysmal the pacing can be most of the time. I do remember some of these side character episodes nearly putting me to sleep though lol.

Prior to the Geks reactions, I would have sworn by this anime. Now, I realize that pre-Shippuden is mostly a snooze fest primarily due to the pacing. Although, I have never been a fan of the Sasuke Retrieval arc. The other arcs would heavily benefit from modern pacing and story-telling. You can just tell the peaks of shippuden are carrying Naruto as Brig and McKay’s goat, which is understandable after your first watch and you’re younger. Undeniable peaks, but as a whole it just does not stand being so plagued with plot holes and horrific pacing and at times writing. Hope to hear a real grown take from them in the end of this rewatch

I checked one last time. The anime staff did not know where to put it, and put it in the middle of an arc which disrupted the flow. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. In the manga it was between Part I and Part II because the first arc in Part II/Shippuden makes a reference to a certain character’s father that only makes sense with context from Gaiden. It also affirms many events that were only hinted at in Part 1 (OG Naruto). There’s a long explanation but that’s the core of it

I don't know if this is something you'd all be interested in but there's something called Naruto Kai. It's a fanmade cut of the entire show without any filler or flashbacks and it's a great way to watch the anime without all the pacing issues. The pacing improves somewhat in Shippuden but there's a few episodes that are PAINFUL bc they end up being almost entirely flashback.

Yeah great point. But it’s kind of inevitable that ppl are always gonna be hyping up Shippuden, that’s just natural. In an ideal world no one would create expectations by saying a thing about Shippuden or future episodes and their reaction would be the most pure, but that’s not real life

I feel like I agree but with naruto it’s tough bc the two are not the same show. I didn’t like OG at all but I did love Naruto Shippuden. They have different vibes and different stories/stakes. However the issues are definitely still there, the payoff was just way better in shippuden in my opinion

Fans can say whatever they want, but being about “the journey” is simply just a cope for the show having horrible pacing, one of the only anime where that genuinely applies is one piece and that still doesn’t apply all the time because sometimes the pacing is just simply bad. Switching your mentality is pretty much a better way of saying turning your brain off a bit so that the real issues with it don’t bug you, and most people when they arent young anymore don’t want to do that. It’s all just cope, and that’s OK. Are there all time moments in the show? Yes. Is it overall objectively great? No. Do you have to wait and is it a bit of a chore to get to those moments? Absolutely.

This is the same thing that happened with HxH lmao where there are amazing parts but you have to get through the not so amazing parts. Shippuden's peaks are what carry Naruto's legacy. And the back to back amazing arcs around the middle-ish of the series. Those who know, know. As for what you're saying abt fans switching up along the way, if I had to rank each arc in order without naming them (spoiler ig) I'd go 1st arc: 5.8/10, 2nd: 6.1/10, 3rd: 7.5/10, 4th: 9.8/10, 5th 10/10, 6th: 9.8/10, 7th: 8/10, 8th: 5.5/10?? I don't rly remember this one. 9th: 6/10 ig? 10th: (climax) 10/10. The rest of the show is this single arc split up into mini arcs i guess. I'd range them between 8-9/10 each. Conclusion is a 10/10. Even is the worst of worst arcs there are good moments in shippuden and the peaks are what kind of blind fans to the lows and honestly for good reason. A certain arc in this show genuinely changed my perception on anime forever.

Regarding your guy's confusion of trees & debris getting cut up but nothing really happening to the characters. It's just simply that the characters & most shinobi have a higher durability than trees, rocks etc. Each character’s durability scales to the amount & strength of there chakra so the average shinobi with decent chakra control is more durable than trees, rocks & whatnot. For example when Jiraiya hits the tree with the rasengan when he is training naruto - it completely took out a chunk of the tree but when kabuto was hit with Naruto's rasengan, his organs didn't just fly out, all he had was a large bruise on his torso and there are a lot of other examples with other jutsu used throughout the show.

I think a perfect example is the infamous opm scene when Genos & Saitama are sparring and before Saitamas punch connects he stops and while the entire canyon behind Genos has been decimated from the amount of force Saitamas punch generated, Genos was completely fine because he obviously scales higher & is more durable than any form of rock. You guy's haven't really had any confusion regarding fights & durability in other shows that I have seen your reactions to but I understand Naruto has a fairly unique power system so hope this explanation helped.

The term may be used loosely but he is genuinely, 100% my favorite character in fiction, and all I need for that is what's been portrayed already, not to allude to anything to come or not, he's just already and has been the best imo.

Yea in the Naruto verse everyone uses “chakra reinforcement” very similar to cursed energy in jjk where the sorcerers all use CE to reinforce their bodies and survive attacks while the entire city can be destroyed simultaneously. All battle Shonen usually have some sort of “reinforcement” built into the lore

It's weird. When u are a kid watching this every week is amazing, u don't notice any problems with the show, u enjoy the experience. Its unique, fun, and u treasure it. Later, your judgment is clouded with nostalgia, and u can't look at it realistically. This isn't just about Naruto, but for most of the shows. When u look at the show trough nostalgia, u can't see its flaws clearly. I love Bleach, watched it minimum 5 times growing up, but when trying to watch it again, I can't, it is not the same. I still like watching certain arcs, but now that I watched objectively better shows, I kind of outgrew it. I still rate it very highly, but I would not recommend someone watching it today.

Majority of Naruto’s so called “Plotholes” can be rationally explained and there are some theories regarding others. As “idcjayyy” mentioned a big part of perceived plotholes comes from a lack of attention or understanding. But yes Naruto does indeed have some minor plotholes/odd narrative points throughout the story. It is extremely hard to avoid some when writing such a long, complex, intricate & expansive story and the anime community is aware that the minor ones that come nearing the end of Naruto were due to Kishimito’s mental & physical exhaustion because of the lack of breaks he took during Naruto’s 15 year run. Even so, some of the geks favorite fiction such as ATLA, Game of Thrones, LOTR, Jacks favorite one piece etc etc. have some plot holes that can be nitpicked & pointed out but nonetheless they take extremely a little away from the enjoyment, phenomenal storytelling & writing of these masterpieces and this applies to Naruto just as much. To say that they hopefully end up reviewing this show with a “grown take” & that McKay isn’t able to pick up on certain things is rather pompous & pretentious. It feels like you guys are implying that to have Naruto as one of - if not your favorite anime oat can only be a result of somehow being less intellectually capable to the point where one is not aware of Narutos flaws and its overall Narrative structure which is just a straight up insult to Kishimito’s brilliant writing & in this specific instance an insult to Brig & Mckay. It sort of reminds me of the intellectual superiority that some seinen enjoyers believe they have over those who tend to enjoy shonen more. To each there own of course but implying that to significantly enjoy Naruto requires some “dumbing down” or lack of awareness from the viewers perspective imo is just ridiculous & quite the complete opposite at times considering the amount of attention & focus one needs to pick up on some of the intricacies, foreshadowing & depth within Naruto's story. Some things definitely go unnoticed or above your head so to say & this is obviously not a jab at the geks but quite a few things have already gone over there heads which is saying something considering theres 3 of them watching together for the first time & that throughout all the shows they watch they usually are always on top of things in regard to plot, nuances etc.

Yo Geks, I know yall already know this but we always want your guys authentic reactions‼️‼️ It’s obviously inevitable to not see the opinions and the expectations set forth by comments that kind of put in the back of your minds what episodes might or might not be enjoyable but just a little reminder to watch Naruto and of course all your other shows disregarding when people think a show “gets good” or “bad” or that if you ultimately enjoy some arc or part of a show that your this or that - positive or negative. I’m guilty of these type of comments as well and while there’s nothing necessarily wrong with them some of these comments can be overbearing to read and for myself I’ve found at least when I’m ever watching a new tv show or anime and have seen a lot on the internet about it already, if I’m not constantly reminding myself to genuinely watch and formulate my own thoughts & opinions - I kind of get lost in expectations and it ruins my viewing experience. I’ve tried to tell brig to not hype shippuden insanely up cause I feel like Carter thinks the second they go into shippuden it’s peak after peak, it does take a while but when it’s there, oh it’s there.

To be honest i kind of get it. These guys went from AoT to this😂 Naruto only holds that special place if you grew up with it and even then i would never choose to rewatch the whole thing. I occasionally watch Rock Lee vs Gaara and a few other peak fights but thats about it

They watched many anime before watching Naruto, also bleach has literally two good arcs which is soul society and tbyw, so your basically saying if they watched bleach or one piece they’d drop it, cause those two anime’s have worse pacing than Naruto, especially one piece, I dropped it many times and I watched Naruto so that says a lot. And I haven’t finished bleach cause I dropped it. I hate when people in these comments keep saying “Naruto fans keep saying it gets better so they keep watching” or something, they would literally say that about any long running show like the big three, cause they all get better but it takes time so I just don’t get it when people say those comments.

Early one piece up until skypiea has good pacing, and don’t get me started on thriller bark, I feel like during that time, one of them will actually sleep the whole arc. Thriller bark is the only arc that made me drop one piece, it took me actually a year to finish that arc, skypiea was close but I tried so hard not to drop it, but after the timeskip, the pacing is so bad all the way through.

Nahhh you're wafflin, Bleach has much better pacing than O.G Naruto (not saying Shippuden) its also alot less childish quicker (Maybe something to do with Naruto airing on Cartoon Network idk) and also these guys have watched nothing but the new era of Anime so saying they watched things after AoT doesn't really do much haha you can't compare 12 Ep anime that are full of non stop action to a 500 episode one, of course its gonna be abit boring for guys like Cannon and Carter who haven't got that nostalgia factor working for them. Not saying they can't like it, the show does cook at alot of points but it does have ALOT of the usual silly anime tropes that get old super quickly even for someone like me that grew up on Naruto.

the worst take in existence. Titles and endings/openings are not the ACTUAL part of the show, they are like accessories. You won't miss anything if you skip them. The scenes in episode 1 are THE part of the show. A lot of series/movies have this seen, where they show something that happens later and be like 'a week before'. It's a narrative CHOICE and PART OF THE WRITING.
