Saw the notification and thought it was Code Geass or Haikyu 😔

lola

Alright where’s the next poll 🤭

Shadow

Yessirrr. Glad y’all watched this🫡

Whatever you guys watch next, don't watch the dark you'll be wasting your time trust me

lola

DAI

oooooooooooohhhh

Mitch

It’s finally over LETS GOOOOO🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Ale

I'm not following this reaction but, do we know what is replacing this show already? Or is there going to be another poll?

hollow soul

dark? 👀🙏🏻

Spencer

True Detective S1.

GreetswithJudgement

Great show. 9.1. With Cannon on this. Objectively 9.6. Chernobyl next hopefully. Also, Squid Games is a great reaction show and the second season is on its way! It will be a perfect time to watch. I love Dark (a favorite of mine) but I think it can wait.

Euphemia Isobel

I'm super excited for Dark but I also like Chernobyl, I just can't wait to see Carter watching Dark

alee

I know there's plenty of shows waiting in the wings but as a followup for this slot can we please consider a watch of the AMC Interview with the Vampire TV series at some point down the line? Season 1 is streaming on Netflix now if that helps reduce friction! :) Maybe this Fall/October for spooky season? It's without hyberbole one of the best shows to have come out over the last few years, so high quality and produced with lots of care and love. It's such a good show to react to as there's tons of potential for discussions/theories/etcetc and would be something new for this channel! I cannot overstate how much I love this show and would be so excited to see y'all watch it (though I'm very aware it's a long shot). :)))

Scinaps

Now do Chernobyl 💚

Scinaps

+1 on both chernobyl and squid game (though I think they surely watched the latter already)

TIME FOR DARK BOYZZZZ

GreetswithJudgement

Also again, hate to be that guy but there’s no better time to mention it since AOT is over and done but the anniversary for the finale is coming in November! I hope we get something AOT related, maybe a rewatch of the final Chapters in dub. Maybe. Anything. Something….or a reaction of your favorite reactions.

Scinaps

Dark is severely overrated sorry not sorry (compared to the other 2)... and I say this as a german native speaker

GreetswithJudgement

I love Dark and I don’t agree but I do think the boys will not like it as much as Dark fans think. Carter will love it but it will be one of those objectively good, personally not a favorite, type of situation.

Scinaps

I personally don't get the dark hype. It's decent but nowhere up there with 9.0+ imdb rated shows

Are you guys going to do top 10 best fights for AOT and JJK like demon slayer?

kivu_king

sorry to be that guy, this show had potential but it was pretty boring overall. im hoping for some dark reactions 🐐

Scinaps

Unpopular opinion for the Dark fanclub: Primer did it better in 2004. *micdrop* And if you've never watched Primer... you're welcome.

GreetswithJudgement

It’s just one of those shows that reminds me of the morbidity of human nature. I like that stuff but I get that it’s not for everyone :)

Dio

This wasn't the micdrop you thought it was 😂

Waiting for DARK

Roy Koopa

It’s funny, because the characters are based on historical people. One of you guys mentioned them I think in the first episode. Toranaga is based on Ieyasu Tokugawa and John is based on William Adams (who was made a samurai by Tokugawa and received the name Anjin Miura). Even Mariko is based on a real person, Hosokawa Garcia, who also blew herself up rather than allow herself to be taken as a hostage. Ochiba is based on the daughter of Nobunaga Oda.

JC

I’m glad you guys liked the show!!! It is soooo good!

DAI

Hmmm. I rated the whole SHOGUN watch like 9+ but I'm not sure about this last episode. Crimson Sky was already done but Mariko, which was never possible with the army, fine. No final war fighting sense, totally fine. What I'm not sure about is how the John's story proceeded in the end. This show used the entire series to build up and showed us how this "Barbarian" changed through encountering the Japanese culture. Eventually he learned to have some respect to the people and culture, then kinda lost it in episode 8 and turned against Toranaga, then after episode 9, I thought he was completely done with everything after Mariko's death. I know it was all according Toranaga's plan including John turning against him, but to John, it wasn't. That's why he tried to commit Seppuku to protest against Toranaga, right? Because he essentially knew Toranaga was the one who sent Mariko to her death, because he knew the villagers are not at fault about ship burned down yet Toranaga won't listen, and because he knew Mariko made an agreement with Kiyama to burn down the ship because she didn't want John to fight. He was done about Toranaga's scheme and just wanna die to prove his point(we live, we die). Why is he still working for Toranaga by rebuilding the ship after all of this? Fuji turning into Nun makes more sense than whatever John is doing in the end. What do you guys think?

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

I think he knows he really has no better choice. He has no real way of getting home and Toranaga is the only ally he really has left. It’s clearer in the books but by the end of the story, Toranaga basically sets John up with his own fleet, money, land, and respect. Also book John and book Toranaga are a lot more like buddies than they are in the show. John really has no reason or desire to go back, not that he even can. His only option is to stay as Toranaga’s ally and make out whatever life he can in Japan.

Mysterious Figure

So when you guys mention Blue Eye Samurai and how much you liked it I feel both sad and mad because of how many times I've told you guys to watch it, and then you guys ended up watching it on your own. It would have been such an awesome watch for the channel. I have also told you guys so many times to watch The Sword of the Stranger anime movie because that's one of the all time classics. But you keep skipping it. I hope one day you guys will be lucky enough to believe me.

jrnoodles

Great show. I would give it a 9.2. Lost some points because of the masuru. jk

DAI

I get why he would think he had no reason to go back home, but why would he work for Toranaga just to stay alive(make out whatever life he can in Japan)? Because I don't think he thinks there are no better choice, he basically had no reason to stay alive, so why not just commit what he tried and interrupted again? That was what in his mind right? For him, there were no better choice than just dying.

Clegane (GOT Season 1-8 enjoyer)

One of the best endings in my opinion. Toranaga basically wanted to be the shogun the entire time. In my opinion, i think the show wasnt even about John/Mariko. It was about Toranaga using everyone around him and his circumstances to reach SHOGUN. When Yabushige says youre no better in your secret heart, i remember Rodrigo telling us in the first episode that every man has "three hearts." One in his mouth for the world to know, one in his chest for his friends, and a secert heart hidden where no one will find it. He used his secret heart to stay alive. Moral of the story, Toranaga was no better than anyone else who was plotting in the show. "Unless I win," - John Blackthorne

Nanashi

I liked Vikings but tbh it's too long and half the episodes are boring

Ashley K

Sorry this is my second time mentioning this but… Can we please add The Last Samurai to the movie watchlist? 👀

Time for Chernobyl 9/10 - 10/10

Tom Murray

I am pretty sure this season, which was never meant to be a 'season' since it was intended as a mini-series, ends in the same way after the same events as the book. It was only after the immense success of this show and popular demand came that a season 2 was perhaps something to consider. Thing is, there is no material to go off of. So at risk of improvising the writing beyond the source material and bombing (looking at you GoT), the production here is in deep cooperation with the Clavell estate, since he died in 94. They are trying to honor the best guess for what the he would have intended should he continued the story. Thing is, Sanada gave an interview after the show's success and admitted that ongoing episodes would be more of spectacle than storytelling since now the show isn't having to line up with any pre-written content and that the viewers are anticipating spectacle, as they usually are in TV media these days. On top of that, Sanada says it is unlikely he will continue to be a producer should that be the direction the show is going in and will only remain an actor. He said if that happens it wouldn't be out of protest or such, but because he admits that his skills as a producer are more in line for the narrative driven story that relies on the script and presentation, rather than action packed spectacle. He says there are more skilled producers for that kind of show.

The “Together Forever” scene with Fuji and John is my favorite. Such an unlikely duo and friendship. Love it. 🩷

Tom Murray

DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS GUESS!? I waited til this episode was watched to chat about this. So we know Toranaga had many off-screen sons. But in episode 9, when Ishido mentioned that in a half assed respects for the death of Nagakado, the way he looked around when he said "he has other [sons]" got me thinking of a big reveal to come. I had thought the Taiko's heir was not the Taiko's son, but actually Toranaga's!. So we know the Taiko couldn't get his wife pregnant, and that so many consorts had tried to be the one to bear him an heir. And then Ochiba just gets lucky? We know she was drugged to all hell to supposedly help her chances to get pregnant, but I thought there was way more to this. I had suspicions that she was drugged so that she would be too loopy to tell it was actually Toranaga, the Taiko's most trusted friend and political ally. If the Taiko couldn't get any of like a hundred women pregnant, I'd say that would be a fertility issue on his part--not the women. So a solution was thought up by the Taiko's wife to have Ochiba get pregnant from Toranaga, who could be trusted to keep the secret that the Taiko's heir is actually his. The Taiko would be none the wiser and would die a few years later still believing that he at last did it because Ochiba is special or something. Fast forward a few years to shortly before the events of this show, and I had thought the secret had gotten out somehow. Maybe happened off-screen in epsiode 8 as the Taiko's wife was dying from her stroke. She might have mentioned it to Ochiba in her dying words as she said "stop playing these games". This new knowledge for Ochiba would have definitely been a factor in ending hostilities against Toranaga, since he is the true father of the heir and her son's father. MASSIVE IMPLICATIONS AND SEEMS VERY POSSIBLE AND MY BRAIN IS GALAXY BRAIN but it was nearly certainly wrong as I saw the end of the show in episode 10--which I and everyone else, even the showrunners--thought was the actual end. I hope Vikings remains in y'alls back pocket for furture polls. Show is in the same vein as GoT. Black Sails is in that vein too, if you would rather have Pirates than Vikings. But note Vikings is pretty hit and miss for the first 2 seasons. When the show got popularity by the end of that season and more capable production backers, their production budget shot up and from season 3 onward it is far more hit than miss.

Vik Mar

just wanna know if you've watched the netflix daredevil show? And no I'm not asking them to react to it, just asking...

Charlie Bronson

Glad you guys enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next show.

Animeke

I'm too lazy to read the comments, Toranaga's smirk was a confirmation to Yabushige that Toranaga was seeking to be Shōgun.

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

He wanted to die mainly to protest Toranaga killing the people of Ajiro. Toranaga stopped it so he doesn't really have a reason to die. I don't think he's suicidal the way Mariko was. Toranaga also gave him a reason to live by letting him build a fleet. It fits with the show's theme of life and death both needing a purpose. Toranaga took away Blackthorne's reason for dying and gave him a reason to live, just like he did with most of the other characters on the show. John follows him because his only purpose in Japan (and really in life) is with Toranaga now.

Not today

Vikings or sons of anarchy

You all need to take a trip to Japan this November and watch the AoT compilation movie (The Last Attack) in theaters.

Enma

Chernobyl next, please!!

I love Dark so so much but from what I’ve seen when it comes to reactors (especially groups) it is a VERY acquired taste. I think it’s because of how complex it can be at times if you aren’t locked in and paying attention. When it comes to big or talkative groups they tend to miss key details more often because they are more “interactive” with one another. The Geks in general do have a bit of a habit of turning away to converse and such as well. Lmao. Nothing wrong with that obviously, that’s just who they are of course. I think it’s a bit of a gamble with this group though of how much they would actually retain and enjoy it. If they were a group like Blind Wave I would def recommend it, but uh… I’m not so sure about how our boys would fair against this show with their current habits. Haha

Killua X

In the first episode, when Omi talks about telling Toranaga about John coming, Yabushige says "why tell a dead man the future?"--Which, as you know, are the same and last words Toranaga says back to Yabushige when he asks if he planned to become Shogun.

Steve

Final thoughts: great reactions overall. Yabushige is a highly enjoyable character, I feel like you guys misunderstood him though. He is a survivor. He cares about living. He is all about taking the path that's going to allow him to live on. It's what makes him predictable for Toranaga, but it doesn't make him scum ilke you guys are implying. Mariko, John, Toranaga, Fuji, Hiromatsu and on and on. This show is memorable for the characters that mattered by the end. Wonderful characters, all of them. Also, adding a wrinkle for this show is that Japan has so much recorded history. These names are real, the stories have truth to reality. Their names are remembered, their heirlooms are passed down. This show could be the first step into someone exploring history and lore, basically, for the nation of Japan. It's so dope

TerraZetzz

Who will be John's next consort?

1x vote for The Last Samurai

Roxana G.

Alice in Borderland pls!

Chris7o

You could rewatch the whole show in chronological order (I know a guy..👀)

Marcusinmilw

The Last Kingdom or Interview with the Vampire.

Gatsu

No worries bro!! youre definitely not that guy!

Barnie♠️

interview with the vampire let’s go

Brianna Tsao

Crazy that people in the comments were saying this fell off. It’s a consistent show beginning to end. Loved it

Jacob Goldsmith

it should be either dark or another poll. for them to do otherwise would make their polls worthless

Mitch

It was fantastic, not goat level like I’ve seen some people online say but I’d personally give it like an 8.7.

Sasha

I know Buntaro coud have just yanked the ship out of the water

Sasha

random but it's time for It's Okay to Not Be Okay

Robin Kay

Y'all should look into Goblin :) It's a Korean drama

tatatani

Edo = Tokyo 🙂

tatatani

Where is Ep8?? It’s still locked😭

Brady

Dark came 2nd in the poll but they might do Chernobyl first then Dark because there’s only 5 episodes

Darrell Henry

Thought we were rooting for Ned Stark but he was really Tywin Lannister.

S0uL YgR

I cought that in the rewatch immediately, does that mean Omi was a spy or there were flies on the wall?

S0uL YgR

I loved Yabushige but I'd like to think it was the actor's amazing performance rather than the character itself.

Killua X

I've heard that it could mean that Toranaga had spies everywhere and that he really does "study the wind" so closely that he purposely threw those words back at Yabushige and since Yabushige remembered his own words that he took it as confirmation that Toranaga has always known what was happening even all of his attempts at betrayal.

LawL

If anyone finishes watching this show and reads about the history that this story is based on, it really seals the deal on that Tywin Lannister comparison. Toranaga was not a friend of the heir, or some virtuous guy who had no ambition, he was the largest vulture of the pack. By the time he was done the heir in this show, who is the son of the "Taiko," Toyotomi Hideyoshi, is dead after a siege of Osaka by Toranaga's real life counter-part Tokugawa. The hatred Ochiba shows Toranaga in the show is not adequately explained, but the idea is that Toranaga was most likely partly complicit in inciting Akechi Jinsai/Mitsuhide, Mariko's father, to murder Ochiba's father. Extra amusing then is the notion that the backing of Toranaga by Ochiba and her son Yaechiyo, both of which were bitter enemies of Tokugawa in reality and would be dead by the end of his war to secure the shogunate. It's a totally unexplainable reversal history.

Lucki

Why are some of the live action videos locked and others aren’t? 😭

Jackski

This is exactly it. He's known everything that's happened the entire time. Yabushige thought he was playing the game but he was just a pawn.

Dami

"Why tell a dead man the future". If you recall, when Omi asked Yabushige if he'd tell Toranaga about the ship that came ashore, Yabushige said the same thing, "Why tell a dead man the future" The line in itself goes so hard but it's even more meaningful when you realize Toranaga was referencing Yabushige to Yabushige. Basically also revealing again that he's too knowledgeable and is aware of the little things that go on. It's cool to see how the tides turned in 1 season

Jordan Mowrer

One thing I never see people talk about is the final frames of the last shot, where Marikos cross is shown in Toranagas hand. It opens up the old john scenes as potential reality, even though his real life counterpart never left japan. It shows how little Toranaga cares for johns wishes/ maybe its to show he believes he still valued her more. It also demonstrates his power in that he had spies watching everyone at all times. The show ends so quickly after its shown most people never see it.

Sam M

Wow you're right. I had to rewatch it to see what you were talking about, it's really easy to miss. That makes the implications of this ending and Toranagas character even more intriguing.

Dylan Walsh

My belief is that the future it shows is what John’s dreams his future will be, with the belief that he will be allowed to leave, signifying how insignificant his wishes and dreams are in the eyes of Toranaga because we as the viewer know that he does not intend on letting John go home.

Vlad Lena

This show is in my 3 Top for this year. For me, Shogun never been boring. It's just not for average viewer. And I loved Toranaga throughout all story, but he tricked me as well. He eventually turned out to be the main villain. Thanks for your reaction! It was because of you I started watching this series, before that my hands didn't reach.
