Shadow

Yuhhh thank u didn’t know if we were getting it this weekend

Cannon Andrus

Holy crap Benedict cumberbatch absolutely kills it as Smaug!!

corLeonis

Dr. John Watson and Sherlock Holmes 🤭

NoneOfYourBeeswax

The Hobbit was filmed at the high rate of 48fps which is why so much detail can be seen (assuming you're watching the correct version)

GreetswithJudgement

Smaug is the best part about this movie. And King Thranduil. Such charisma!

TheSauceGuy

Finally, The Hobbit 2: Electric Boogaloo

Shadow

He also did the voice for Sauron. And yea the mocap is goofy af to see

Seth Aasland

if yall watch the behind the scenes of Benedict as Smaug, he really puts his WHOLE body into his performance lol. he did such a good job

Luka Monsaraz

as a dragons fan, Ive always loved smaug. smaug was the first dragon that lived up to the hype! both in effects and character! up until 2013 dragon heart and eragon were the only decent dragon related movies yet none of the dragons looked that "realistic". the success and use of cgi in this movie was likely what pionered and inpired the look for GOT dragons. ultimately now leading to HOD. without smaug there probably wouldnt be that much of a budget for these marvelous mythical creatures.

Rosie Mon47

I just woke up to this, yay! My day off done right - thanks for the upload studio Gek! ^_^

Scinaps

For folks who liked Lee Pace, you should see "The Fall" one of the most stunning gorgeous movies ever made https://youtu.be/rEi-v6aJD7Q?feature=shared trailer

Blackeyedlily

Since a dislike of the Hobbit feet was mentioned, I wanted to share that in Tolkien’s writing Hobbit feet were never described as the huge feet of the movies. They are described, as having very tough feet. And hair grew on the top of their feet. And because they were so tough, the Hobbits did not wear shoes. But the great big feet in the movies was a design decision of Peter Jackson’s. And probably not one of his better ones.

Shadow

There are some Elves - those that used to live on Valinor - that can see in the unseen world/ring wearers. Such as Galadriel. They exist in both worlds.

Aozora

Wait am i trippin? did you guys skip the part where gandalf introduces the dwarves to beorn? Or is this a diff version of the film?

Tom Murray

So Kili, Fili and Ori are very young for dwarves and in fact we’re not yet born when Erebor was lost. Unlike most of the company, they have not ever even seen what they are fighting so hard for. Also, by ‘hot dwarves’, some info about beauty. Thorin is the most attractive by human standards. Dwalin is the most attractive by dwarf standards. And, surprise, Kili is the most attractive by elf standards.

Samuel

2:30:14 Sunfyre should have been this golden smh

Shadow

I wish got and hotd actually made the dragons as colorful as they are described to be

Shadow

That to 1000% that’s like one of my fav things from the books😂 makes them so much more unique

TheSauceGuy

I like how the regular orcs seem more intelligent in these movies, especially Azog and Bolg. The orcs still get merked though lol. They got some elves though, which is not an easy task.

NoneOfYourBeeswax

p.p.p.s. It wasn't Random" that Radaghast turned up at the Necromancer's lair of Dol Gol'dur. Gandalf asked him to meet him there. Not sure why though; all he did was send Radaghast off to get a message to Galadriel.

Carrie

It’s been a long time since I’ve read the Hobbit so I don’t remember but is the stuff about dwarf attractiveness really in the book?? 😂😭 or is this strictly movie lore?

TheSauceGuy

Bilbo is so lucky he could still move after being wrapped up in those webs.

TheSauceGuy

It's kind of cool that a random, unlucky spider was the inspiration for Bilbo to name his sword "Sting."

TheSauceGuy

I love this movie, but it's sometimes goofy to see how easily they dispatch orcs/goblins, wargs, and GIANT SPIDERS lol. That's kind of part of these films though; I'd like to think it's Bilbo's exaggerated retelling.

Carrie

Kinda wish it was book lore too cause it’s hilarious imagining Tolkien coming up with all that

TheSauceGuy

The wood elf armor is sick

Scinaps

Have a look at some of the concept art if Guillermo del Toro had directed as was originally planned, would have been dope also https://www.google.com/amp/s/aeonianarchives.tumblr.com/post/688692164403855360/i-found-a-bunch-of-concept-art-from-and-nick/amp

Scinaps

The spirit world (kind of) I like to think of it similar to avatar last airbender 😜

TheSauceGuy

Bombur and Bofur are the best lol

TheSauceGuy

Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and Pirates of the Caribbean marathons?

Amna 🍉

I would die for a Harry Potter marathon

Carrie

Love how the Mirkwood elf concept art has a slightly monstrous quality. Wish we could have seen the vision come to life

Blackeyedlily

The biggest problem with this series is that the movie studio wanted another trilogy, after the huge success of Lord of the Rings. But while LotR is based on a book trilogy, the Hobbit was a small children’s book. They do include some interesting things that connect this story to LotR in a way that the Hobbit book never did. But they added a lot of silly stuff as well. The love triangle was one of the worst additions IMO. The actress had been promised that there would be no love story for her character. So she felt sort of betrayed by what they turned it into. And while Peter Jackson pioneered some fantastic CGI in LotR, with Sméagol and the huge battle scenes, a lot of people felt that he took it too far in this trilogy. Which ended up distracting from the overall film, instead of enhancing it. As far as Legolas, remember that Orlando Bloom was barely 18 years old when he acted in LotR, and this was more than a decade later.

Scinaps

Calling Bombur Walmart Gimli is 🤣 Gimli's dad is one of the Dwarves, Gloin.

Scinaps

A darker wood elf armor. Shows the stealth/camouflage aspect within the slowly corrupted forest

TheSauceGuy

Does anyone else think Thranduil kind of resembles Alucard from Castlevania? The way he put away his sword after beheading the orc made me see it.

Scinaps

Orlando was 22-24 in the fellowship same age as Liv (Arwen). Elijah (Frodo) was 18 and the youngest of the main cast

TheSauceGuy

The armor in the show reminds me of the heavy chitin armor from Skyrim, or at least the helmet.

Shadow

I woulda rather seen Legolas just be good friends with Tauriel the stuff with kili can stay. Woulda made Legolas more likable

Taylor

I think that the gems that Thranduil wanted belonged to his dead wife, which was why it is extra fugged up that Thorin wouldn't give them back to him. Greedy greedball.

Scinaps

Yep. It's not actually in the Hobbit book but it's a smart addition in the movie to give Thranduil more conflict /backstory and works within tolkien universe (extended lore) as those elves like silver and light gems

Carrie

He has the flair and elegance! Now that you mention it, Thorin & Thranduil’s dislike of each other reminds me of early Trevor & Alucard. Funny coincidence that Richard Armitage is also Trevor’s VA

Scinaps

By the way in the behind the scenes they describe how a Tom Ford spread influenced Thrandiul drip https://cinematicpassions.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/tomford2.jpg?w=584

TheSauceGuy

Bard looks like Orlando Bloom and Jeremy Davies combined into one person.

DARK EXPERT

Hi guys. I thought DARK was supposed to drop over this weekend going by YouTube? Can you tell your schedule? I specifically joined your Patreon for the series.

TheSauceGuy

One day we'll get ES6. We got the second Avatar movie first lmao. Btw Shadow, if you want to join a Discord group chat for mostly HotD/GoT stuff, lmk. We can only fit two more people, likely one soon.

TheSauceGuy

GigaChad Ser Erryk cleaving through enemies like a knife through butter, but also getting lost at every turn lmao.

Scinaps

Those who think Kili is rizzing should see him in Poldark. You'd faint lmao

Chris Sanford

I know ya'll probably won't want to, but you should reallyyyyy watch the extended version of the 3rd Hobbit movie. They left out things in the theatrical purposely so people would watch the extended. The movie doesn't feel whole without the extended.

Shadow

Thanks but tbh I probs shouldn’t take up a spot cuz I like never check discord stuff😂 and I needddd ES6

TheSauceGuy

Just to give you an interesting visual, with Smaug's accumulated wealth from Erebor, he wouldn't even be in the top 10 richest people in our world.

TheSauceGuy

I love how Smaug easily dwarfs any of the dragons from HotD and GoT verse while simultaneously being a smaller dragon of their world. He's also far more intelligent lol.

TheSauceGuy

Watching Smaug in this movie never fails to amaze me. The fact that they used mocap for a dragon like this is just so cool lol.

Amna 🍉

Did the GOT upload disappear for everyone else as well?

hollow soul

haha times like this i rlly wish i wasn't banned from the discord, wanna know what the fuck going on. Was in bed saw the notif, got up made breakfast and now the eps gone.

Bambina

@hollow soul I literally did the same thing 😂 I regret not pressing play immediately

Amna 🍉

I just got to the outro and it was getting JUICYYY😭 and then it stopped working

Arctic_stark

Where did the GoT upload go?

Karlsefni

Comments must of been getting to heated on that GoT upload 😭

Karlsefni

Or maybe the post discussion was just a little to confrontational to keep up

TheSauceGuy

I mean, it's not that Thorin doesn't care about the group, it's just the Arkenstone has a similar effect to the ring on him; few can remain uncorrupted for long. Smeagol killed his relative like one millisecond after obtaining the ring lol. Also, it's been a super stressful journey.

Ophelia

What’s going on where did the GOT upload disappear to what happened

Blackeyedlily

Guess I was mixing Orlando up with Elijah. But the point I was making, since they commented a couple of times on how different Legolas looked, was that they was over a decade between the two trilogies. And 18 or 24, Orlando was so young that a decade made a noticeable difference in his appearance. If he had not been so young during the first trilogy, then a decade later may have made less of a difference in his appearance.

TheSauceGuy

This is one of those series where I'm able to enjoy it despite some of the silly aspects as I interpret it as Bilbo exaggerating. Either way, it doesn't try to portray itself as super grounded, so it's not something that bothers me as much. Lord of the Rings has plenty of very similar moments as well, so I was sort of expecting them in The Hobbit too. What's interesting is that while this movie has plot armor aspects, it also has moments where orcs seem incredibly competent and adept. Bolg's fight with Legolas is one of my favorite moments.

TheSauceGuy

I don't get the Thorin hate when Boromir is loved

Shadow

That’s why it works for me to. It’s enjoyable and they didn’t try to sell u that there was insane deep writing, crazy stakes, and no plot armor. It’s not like one movie was super serious and then suddenly in the next we get the barrel scene and smaug not killing everyone(or a early to late season GOT switch). They also add enough to it that tickles a LOTR lore fan.

Tom Murray

Maybe it was a Mandela effect of sorts but I swore the beauty standards were loosely talked about in the Fellowship in one of Tolkien’s world building tangents. And while I think what I said wasn’t mentioned in an on-the-nose style as I said it and with these characters mentioned, some choices were made in filming since it’s a visual medium to carry on with it. How some members of races are seen one way by their own but could considered in another way by others. I haven’t read the Hobbit, but can anyone confirm is Tauriel was even a character? She does seem like a creative decision by the movie, seems a bit out of the typical Tolkien tones. It’s also been since like 3rd grade that I’ve read the Fellowship, the only of the 3 I’ve read. I of course can’t remember that much, let alone can be confident it all properly sank in at the 3rd grade reading level. Shortly after I became enthralled by the movies but now that I’m an adult I should give the books another spin. I do an extended version marathon like twice per year, I just hope I haven’t ruined the books’ enjoyment for myself

Carrie

Lee Pace achieved astronomical levels of cuntiness in this role as Thranduil that haven't been seen since. Like it’s actually kind of insane if you think about it

NoneOfYourBeeswax

I don't know where you got your information from, but that's just nonsensical. Smaug is lying on literally TONS of gold; the amount of gold in the huge statue the dwarves forged would alone far surpass the wealth of any one person, living or dead, in our world.

Carrie

That’s fair, I haven’t cracked open the Hobbit or Fellowship since middle school so I wouldn’t remember either. I also need to revisit the books as an adult. & to answer your question, no Tauriel is not in the book, I believe Peter Jackson invented her lol. So it would make sense if maybe the bit about Kili being attractive to elves stemmed from the movie lore. Even if it did end up being a Mandela effect, I enjoyed your assessment! Gave me a laugh 😂

TheSauceGuy

I have no clue what you're talking about lmao. Do you know how rich people like Elon Musk and Bezos are?

jrnoodles

Thanks you Geks+! Bombur is the comedic relief we needed in this movie.

Chris Sanford

The girls were lowkey kinda trippin, it's been at least 4-5 months if not a little longer since Bilbo got the ring by the point they're in Mirkwood. Frodo's entire journey was about 6 months and 3 days long so not too crazy to say Bilbo was already entranced by the ring at that point.

Seth(Bill) Jones

I know I did not just hear someone say Smog☹️😑

Sasha

Carter was hyping Bombur up like he got a bet on him😂

Sasha

Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter coming up on the channel.

Sasha

Gandalf did Revelio but it didn't work😢

Sasha

I doubt Jack has seen these movies only four times😂

Sasha

"I am fire. I am death" is one of the coldest lines in movie history. I even watched that scene dubbed in different languages. Smaug is my goat. Also this movie is soooo much better than the first one. The first one seemed just like goofy fantasy.

Sasha

Gotta catch up with Game of Thrones and see if Jack is right.

Skyz

Lowkey i always skip the scenes between Kili and Tauriel

An

i actually rlly love the hobbit movies and didn’t know that a lot of ppl dislike them LOL probably because i haven’t watched lotr and can’t compare them

Oliver

Wow wow wow hold on. YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED LOTR? DO IT! You can just watch their reaction along them but DO IT

Arctic_stark

Gandalf had to go to do his side quest in Dol Guldur because thats his primary responsibility. Him helping Thorin is the actual side quest as far as he is concerned. In fact his main reason for helping Thorin is to get rid of Smaug before Sauron returns, because he believes Sauron will use Smaug as a significant weapon.

safaricat

I'll say in my opinion on why Bilbo got corrupted more quickly is because he was using it to make himself look better. There were times he could have used it but he's a lot braver than Frodo so he had no need for it. However he used it to get out of situations as well as come in clutch with the rescues and to prove them wrong the times they doubted him. He used it to trick and sneak attack, and started really feelin himself, that's why he was more quickly corrupted I think. Frodo's corruption though looks different because of his personality to begin with. He's not as cheeky as Bilbo or a smug. The ring is also like a spoil of war he can't tell anyone about it because he found it fair and square. Also you have to remember the stats. Dwarves have sturdier bodies than most. Smaug is HUGE in comparison the halls of the forge as well as it's used to hot temperatures so it's easy to hide behind some of the walls and what not. It seems ridiculous that they all survive but considering their stature and how sturdy their bodies are built as well as them thinking on their feet and used to working in mines it makes sense they survive.

safaricat

side bar, you guys should watch the bts scenes of Benedict Cumberbatch doing the mocap it's great

Marissa ♥

YESSS! Please watch Pirates of The Carribean! (the first three at least) and the movie Troy (with Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom)

Marcusinmilw

Some of you may know this already, but since Arwen was mentioned several times in this reaction, fun fact: Arwen is the granddaughter of Galadriel. Her mother was Celebrían, who was the daughter of Galadriel and her husband, Celeborn.

Uros Vesic

This is the only movie in this trilogy that is above 6. Smaug was amazing, best part of Hobbits. I am going to ignore all the stupid things in this movie, and just enjoy that part.

LionBro

First of all, you definitely need to watch Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and a favorite of mine, Ocean 11 & 12 (maybe 13.) Second and just for a fun fact; Bards daughters are played by James Nesbitt's (who plays Bofur) daughters.

LionBro

Also at 1:14:22, the eyepatch guy is Stephen Colbert.

An

i really should because everyone says theyre better than the hobbit 😭

Chrisiyyi

If there is this much gold, question is if it is still worth anything, gold is only worth so much because of how much there is in the world, the more gold, the less valuable it is.

Lilly

I definitely support pirates of the Caribbean, one of my favourite franchises of all time.

Lilly

Please do pirates of the Caribbean! 😫

Paula

I am getting so annoyed because of the Thorin slander. It’s like you haven’t watched the first movie and so ne get his character at all. Yes, he becomes greedy and values the gold to much. But it is his mountain, his gold, his birthright and his home and for all his people. He cares about his company and bilbo. We see him countless of times walk first into danger and when it’s about going to safety he is always last and makes sure everybody else is secure before him. Also the beginning in the first movie, what he did to his people and everything. He is a flawed character, which is what makes him interesting, but defiantly not an bum

Marcusinmilw

When are y'all getting to Battle of the Five Armies?

TVGirl

Can we recommend you guys movies? Can you guys watch train to busan

Panos

Still waiting for the 3rd part.. Aggh its been 10 days cmon peeps

Poragami

Mentioned it only once, but god please watch Pirates of the Caribbean, such good movies

Lilly

OMG YESSS PLEASEEE. TOP 5 FRANCHISE FOR ME. With Harry Potter, lord of the rings and hobbit, and I love kung fu panda.

parALICEis

watching this in 3d in the cinema was amazng. and the anding scene is amazing and gives u a shiver. then silence. and than that pretty song <3 verry nice

parALICEis

i am wondering tho how the montain isnt unstable with thatt much hollowness inside. and when smaug breaks all those pillars and support structure inside ...
