Really loved how you guys opened up and related ur real lives to the show. I also see myself in many of the characters oda writes and iit hits deep. On some happy news a one piece fan climbed Mount Everst with luffy hat on really crazy.

The saddest part of this backstory is you guys stopping mid-backstory 😭. Having you guys being able to personally relate to Nami's story is the best lore drop I could've asked for in this reaction though. As Carter said, I think a lot of people would agree that one piece is outwardly goofy but surprisingly deep. Oda has a way of touching the soul. Hope this doesn't break the momentum of how you guys feel going into the next two eps! Secretly hoping you guys binged them too, can't wait for the next drop!

like nami told luffy in syrup village pirates like kuro or arlong are way more standard than how luffy romanticizes it. and you've begun to get glimpses of the marines, who are considered good by the regular citizens, having rats like the guy working with arlong or the warlords

Totally agree, stories are especially impactful when you’re able to resonate with it on a personal level, which is why Nami’s backstory is held at such high regard. Although I initially wanted them to react till 37, I don’t think we would have been able to hear this heartfelt confession of Carter’s childhood if we didn’t stop here. Truly makes us thankful for the mothers in our lives.

11:35 convo about why Zoro follows Luffy. A character trait that sometimes doesn't get picked up for Zoro is the importance of someone's word, but particularly in promises. He promised his childhood friend Kuina one of them will be world's strongest swordsman and now carries that burden, he promised he would never lose again after fighting Mihawk, and he was promised he would be released after being tied up by that brat marine. The moment that promise was broken and he was deemed to be executed, his promise of becoming the world's greatest swordsman was going to cease. And who saves him? Luffy. Because of Luffy his dream and his life still lives on, and for that Zoro feels indebted to Luffy when he promised to be his right hand man on his journey to be Pirate King. Interesting to note is this character trait paired with two liars - Usopp and Nami. The subtle narratives built from that dynamic are fun.

Addressing the 19:30 comment and the genuine consensus that Usopp is the worst of the crew. Arguably valid, but in Usopp's defense he is on a crew with a devil fruit user, a famed bounty hunter, and a chef who kicks like a semi truck. Not accounting for Nami, Usopp is the weakest of the crew and lies to compensate. He consistently faces challenges that he has every right to run away from. But what does he do instead? Faces them head on to follow his dream of being a brave warrior of the sea like his father. An admirable trait if you consider the kind of shit he finds himself as just a guy who uses tools pretty efficiently.

One more thing to consider for Usopp is that he provides a human mirror into the dynamic of the crew. Where everyone else is somewhat one dimensional in their way of thinking and often taking it to extremes - Luffy: Does what he wants/enjoys freedom, Zoro: Straightforward and honorable, Sanji: emphatic (towards women mostly), Nami: money (for reasons shown through this arc) - Usopp is the one character who is closest to being an actual human on that crew (again not accounting Nami) who rises up to challenges like actual people do and has to often lie to himself to get there. Fake it till you make it is a thing for a reason.

Oh heres the thing about sanji gag, i hope you know that most of it are from Toei (the animation company) and not from Oda (the goat author.) i know that as it goes further, you guys might not like it so imma just say it because he’s such a well written character but the only thing is that the gag is going too far sometimes.
