Love the slight appreciation for the music. Haikyuu has some of the best music in anime in my opinion, and one of the composers use to make music for sports, and specifically gymnastics. He's also the composer for MHA, and his mixture of jazz and classical surely inspired JJK.

Actually I think Bokuto is ranked in fourth position. He slightly didn’t make it in top 3. Imagine if Bokuto had Tanaka levels of mental toughness. If he was able to regulate his emotion, he easily be top 3 for sure 😪

To answer Jack's question when Tsukki covered the back of his neck and head at the start of the episode: In Haikyuu, the players on the court often do that before someone serves just in case the ball goes in a weird direction and accidentally hits them in the back of the head! You've already seen how Hinata did it to Kageyama once, and it can hurt pretty bad sometimes haha!

Btw, you guys keep bringing up the potential of Karasuno playing vs Nekoma in the upcoming prefecture tournament, but this is not possible since they are from different prefectures. Nekoma, Fukorodani and all the other teams at this training camp except for Karasuno are all from the Tokyo prefecture. Shiratorizawa, Aoba Johsai, Date Tech and any of the other teams that were at the previous tournament are all part of the Miyagi prefecture and will be at the upcoming tournament, the vast majority being teams we've never seen except for maybe seeing their name on a tournament bracket. The upcoming prefecture tournament is a qualifier for the national spring tournament where representatives for each prefecture play eachother for the national title. Usually only 1 team per prefecture can make it to nationals, however Tokyo is one of the exceptions since the population is so big, so they get 2 representatives. Shiratorizawa and Fukorodani are the favorites for the Miyagi and Tokyo prefecture respectively. Iirc there are 43 prefectures total in Japan.

7:40 like the writer have said through Ukai's narration, Kageyama was worried Hinata would-be stressed out by missing the ball so many times and not getting the perfect spike. Subconsciously he threw the ball like the times before this new spike. He was like that because he cared. This scene also shows Hinata's improvement as he noticed the kind of fast ball Kageyama threw at him as pointed out by Tsukki mentioning "animal instinct to notice.."

8:50 what I understand and like about Kageyama and Hinata's friendship is they both share the same aim, to be better and to go further in the tournament but they also have such an understanding between the two that they don't need that "one-to-one" feeling out the emotions between them. They have such a simple relationship which works well with Kageyama who's not that great with social interactions.

mckay, i’d say the mechanics of the “falling toss” are kindaa unrealistic just because irl, if the ball has that much backspin on it, you’re probably gonna get called for a double 😂 but it 100% IS real that some setters can set a ball that almost kinda floats right in the hitting zone momentarily. so i’d say kags new set is still pretty realistic, i think it’s just way simpler to explain the “stopping” of the ball with backspin, rather than just chalking it up to finesse which i think it lwk is. kinda like akaashi was saying, you acc have to be GOATED to pull ts off 😂 it would also just be so hard to animate a ball that just kinda sits there for a split second w no spin.. and it wouldn’t look so fkn dope 🤷🏾‍♀️ so yeah, once again, kags is just fuckin ridiculous, great reaction, can’t WAIT for the thursday 😁😁

As a volleyball player/coach I always found the spinning set pretty funny, considering the rest of the show is decently accurate to real volleyball (except the terms they use, such as ace, but that may just be a japanese thing). But irl the spinning set would most likely always be called as a double touch/setter fault, even if technically Kageyama isn't mishitting the ball. Most highschool refs will call doubles based on the amount of spin on the ball (and obviously kag's be SPINNIN). either way the spinning set would be pretty useless irl lol but it's cool nonetheless

Hinata and Kageyama’s new falling toss quick is definitely an anime move, very unrealistic but it’s still a really cool and effective one. It’s really nice to have a move like that in Haikyuu here and there though considering majority of their plays and the show is realistic/grounded. Which is pretty rare in sports anime since a lot of others tend to be overdramatised and unrealistic

Japan has 47 prefectures and over 4000 teams (high schools) participating the spring tournaments. One team each prefecture can go to the national except Tokyo (3 teams), Osaka(2), Hokkaido(2), Kanagawa(2). In total 52 teams make it to the national. Since my first language isn’t English, I’m sorry if you don’t get my explanation.

Back then whenever Karasuno has to run laps somewhere it’s always only Kageyama and Hinata giving 100% and shows how much stamina they have. Here with the training arc, everyone of them is basically increasing their stamina bec of all the penalties they have to do 😂 Was also looking forward to the Geks seeing the meat dance part 🥹 So nice to see their chuckles here and there.

YES i’m so happy you guys mentioned the music and soundtrack in this show <3 IT IS just so FIREEEE for a normal high school volleyball anime 🔥 yuki hayashi one of the goat composers in the industry, he also composed soundtracks for my hero academia, shaman king, insomniacs after school and many more!!! listening to anime openings/endings is one thing but i ALWAYS have haikyuu soundtracks on my playlist whenever i’m out and about each day

AGREED!! when i watched this show for the first time, and when i was only at the first season, i immediately told my friend that they’re soulmates (specifically in volleyball) which is why their dynamic is just so fun to watch throughout the series!! these two boys really have a strong connection w each other 😭🥺

rewatching haikyuu and seeing hinata improve and get excited over every little thing fills my heart with so much joy 😭 also ukai explaining the difference between the old and new quick to sensei was kind of weird, since he still used technical terms to someone who's not familiar with volleyball. if i were to explain the difference it would be "hinata controls where to hit the quick now" he chooses the place where there are no attackers, jumps his highest and waits for the ball to come to him. kageyama is still a dictator though so he gauges the other players attention and positions, if he senses that they sussed hinata out he can choose not to toss to him and toss to another free player. again this is why i love haikyuu, none of this needs to be told to you, the watcher, directly. you can just compare how the quick was performed before vs now (with the information dropped here and there by jiji ukai and coach ukai) and form your own observation. same with all the hints we got from kuroo and bokuto, now just have to see them COOK during the tournament!

no its not, technically when you throw a ball or pretty much anything in the air there's a brief moment when it stops moving before it comes back down. kageyama is arcing the ball and timing when the ball "stops" before it falls

I feel like the reason some people got defensive about the 3rd years is because it kinda reminded them of Ushijima when he said in episode 1 that 'Infertile soil will not bring forth splendid fruit' and it automatically makes you feel like Hinata and want to say 'I'm Hinata Shoyo from the concrete' lol. In a sense Haikyuu is not the story about making the ultimate team and winning which I know is not what you guys said just to be clear. I love how it's a show about this given team in this prefecture and their journey through high school volleyball. And I mean plenty of time you see All Stars teams and they somehow still don't reach the top of the top and that's what's so fun about sports; it's so unpredictable. That being said people really should chill and be respectful. I feel like as you guys hyperbolise how much you dislike a character or elements of the show and it's not that deep, fans of the show also kind of hyperbolise their reaction to your comments if that makes sense. I mean this is the fandom that has Oikawa as the top villain in anime; we like to be joke in an annoying way haha

i agree with most of the comments i read. you do not need to apologize nor explain your opinions. that's why its called opinion, its your own judgement or your own view on things. and this is why I like you guys as reactors 'cause you are genuine. you say what you like, you say what you don't like (which is the reason why I'm here!) as for the issue on the other members being "weak" well, I also thought about that when I started reading the manga. But later on, realized that they are not that weak (just the other teams are stronger), to quote one of the side characters have mentioned "it's not that they are weak, just mediocre" (at that time when Hinata and kageyama was late in training) anyways, Thank you very much for being authentic in your reactions (I always get entertained whenever there are discussions/debates amongst you 😊 )

It does pay off for them. They are already starting to get better. Sure, it's not perfect and they still have a ways to go, but they needed this. My favorite part is when they finally get the new quick right. I also like when Hinata uses the new attack Bokuto taught him. Bokuto is so extra at times, but at the same time like you guys said at least he realizes he's not at his best. He may do it a bit childishly, but it gives him time to cool down. kageyama, hinata, coach ukai, takeda all made karasuno not "bums" kageyama + hinata = dynamic duo ukai = seeing teams potential and making each person on team work on themselves takeda = able to get them to these camps + scrimmages against other teams to inspire karasuno members to improve themself

Tsukki is my other favorite character besides Oikawa. He knows that Hinata easily gets riled up, so he likes to mess with Hinata lol but one of the reasons I like Tsukki is how he overcame his own negative thoughts with the help of Yamaguchi and started to learn to be a better player. I like his character development here.

usually we are in sync with youtube releases and we are suppose to be a week ahead right? so does that mean there should have been another drop today 11-12? I get that things got delayed on the patreon side but my only issue is that it didnt get delayed on the youtube side as well. If this is the case, it makes it feel bad as a patreon member because the paying viewer experienced a delay in content while the free users didnt notice anything. Would it be possible to delay the youtube side too next time ? I hope this makes sense and I get that delays happen but cant help to feel this way and just wanted let you guys know as I saw this happened to other creators providing a similar content service.

I just wanted to say this real quick, im only 5 mins into this episode but Jack pointing out that getting hit in the face when you have glasses is even worse is spot on :'( I have literal scars on my eyebrows/nose from my glasses cutting me from getting hit by a basketball so many times lol

honestly I don't hate it, at least at the NCAA level of competition for a couple reasons: #1 being the reason it was removed in the first place, which is unlike other faults in volleyball (ball being hit out, etc), it's a call that is totally up to the interpretation of the referee, and no two refs are going to be able to make the same call every time. especially at the high level where the play is much faster and setters are more skilled, it becomes exceedingly difficult to accurately call a double on a set. #2, the reason most people hate it is because "it will take the skill out of setting" or "i've practiced my whole life to be able to set well and now it doesn't matter", which is kind of redundant. There's absolutely no benefit to doubling the ball, purposefully or otherwise, so it doesn't actually affect the game that much. high level setters are still going to have little to no spin on the ball, and need to have the ability to place it accurately (which a double hit would not be), so removing the rule entirely just takes away the ability for misinterpretation. (another fun fact about doubling is that it's one of only a couple calls in volleyball in which the coach/captain is NOT allowed to challenge the ref on BECAUSE it is up for interpretation. which can become really frustrating at lower levels when calls are being made onesidedly lol)
