fcitifciti12

Brig Andrus

This episode was so good

Melizé

DANDADANDADANDADANDADANDADANDADAN

Ben U

in case you didn't pick up on it: She was prostituting herself. She died by suicide, not by getting hit by a car.

jul ☽

usually i never comment abt a diff topic under a vid but you can’t imagine how hyped i am for you to drop dark 3x1 😭

Super Novice

What an episode, they adapted it so well

vally

Ahaha wtf, I totally thought I was in the Haikyuu comment section for a sec... just had a mini heart attack wondering how we suddenly got here!

Brady

I'm 2 episodes behind but that just means I get to watch the 2x7, 2x8, and 3x1 reactions all at once

Alex Ramirez

I can't believe Cannon got canceled so he didn't make it for the video smh

DontFailArtSchoolEren

One thing animation can always add is the music and the lack of music at certain scenes to really bring out everything a manga couldnt. Beautiful.

AlucardIV

In this week’s episode, between a funky OP and a funky ED we got served emotional damage. Oh the duality of Dandadan! Also, because I don’t think anyone recognised her, Aira is voiced by the same VA as AoT’s Gabi.

Jackson Carter

This episode was amazing! They did an amazing job with the music, tied the panels all together so well

Caraxes🐐DT

Man I just know that little girl had a terrible life after those guys took her smh so sad to think about what they did to her actually. yes Jack was right the lady was already dead at that point when the pink hair girl saw her. Also don’t know if you realize but the mom killed herself by jumping off the building after doing the dance her and her daughter always practiced.

maria

DANDADAN THURSDAYS!!! 🗣️

Linn

This chapter is what really sold me on the manga, before this it just felt like something I read for fun and suddenly it got a lot more depth. Btw you should watch Look Back for your next Cinema Saturday, it’s by the same creator as CSM and was released on Amazon Prime last weekend. It’s was so so good. On my top list of anime movies along with A Silent Voice.

Ayoodude

Love this series

Sunny

I had a rough day today and when i watched this episode on my own before watching ur reactions - I was BAWLING my eyes out. uff - it was really hard to watch

NMP

I think the episode had to be a lot more subtle about it because of tv censorship or something but the mom was pr*stituting herself to make money. So you can imagine how dark the daughter’s future is when she was taken away by the people the mom owed money to.

Sunny

!!! ALSO: for your information: actually, she didn't die while being hit by a car. She couldn't reach the car, and because she was losing the only reason to live she went up a building and danced. The light u see in this scene is actually the city lights. And when u see her doing the jump and the scene kind of tilts its because she is falling from the roof and then u hear the body break. Like knowing that is even more sadder. When Aira sees her, she is dead, she is a spirit.

NMP

The show had to be subtle about it but she was pr*stituting herself. So she owed her “boss” money, and they took her daughter. Dark future/life ahead of her for the daughter

NMP

Also her dancing in the rain was her jumping off a building. I guess it’s because of censorship but it’s kind of annoying to me as a manga reader because I feel like they didn’t communicate two of the most tragic parts of the backstory that well.

sil

i haven’t watched the episode nor the reaction of yall yet but omg i feel like i’m gonna cry bc i know what’s gonna happen 🥺 IM AAAAA

Tyler Ngo

Got me tearing up n shi

Frida BØ

It was a sad watch this ep for sure.. i hope you’re feeling better soon❤️

beannieswife

i sobbed tf out of this ep😭 the beauty of the direction combined with how sad the story was just made me soooo emotional, this show switches the tone so smoothly, i love it. dandadan is definitely the biggest contender for anime of the year

Neemz

I regret watching this at the office 🧅

Frizen

If you're confused why Aira could see her when she was a child but not later on it's just because it's widely believed children are more able to perceive the paranormal.

Hector

I just witnessed peak cinema...

Amare D.

Duh duh duh

jrnoodles

Thanks! I wasn't expecting much but that was a nice back story, very beautifully shown.

Acebes

This shit got me crying in the car during my lunch break. God damn

Fiona

You can really see how much the director loves cinema 👌 this show is such a joy to watch

Tink.k7

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who cried 😭

Elle B.

I haven’t cried that hard at an anime episode in awhile. Beautiful animation and incredible voice acting.

anby

i cried so hard watching this… hit even harder than the manga

derick ako

I'm really surprised that you guys didn't pick up on the fact that she was selling her body for money. She was at a hotel naked and picking up money on the counter that was left for her. I don't know how you missed that.

kai

wow this ep was sad asf had me tearing up like a baby

acorns

i cried 😔

Sasha

When Brig said "We're so cooked" they indeed were

Sasha

I didn't expect Dandadan to come up with these emotions. When the daughter said "Mommy thank you for all you do" especially got to me on the first watch. This rewatch just made me tear up from the start of the backstory until the end of the episode. That is one of the peak moments of anime for me.

Akiko

Doesn't she see her again as she's fading at the end, after the gold ball was taken from her?

olivia

We may have lost Cannon for this. But we got Jack closer to the mic.

Frizen

She just got the ghosts aura infused into her. She's basically Okarun now

Amare D.

Don't want to be that guy does one piece upload later tonight

Jamir Blue

She is dancing on a rooftop but they stylised it, you can tell by the lights behind her. If you look behind her at the lights for her final leap you will see that she is falling from high up. As for Aira seeing her as a kid, it’s believed kids can see spirits so it was a take on that.

James Moss

I love sad anime episodes. Anime just really has the power to get me emotional haha.

Mitch

Yea and the pink lights are kind of a tell tale sign too

Mitch

Yea I got the first part but didn’t really catch her on the building

Huewi

I remember reading this chapter of the manga and feeling the emotion but not crying. When this episode released I knew it would be a beloved episode that would tug on peoples heart strings and make them cry. But I never expected to cry myself, what a fantastic adaptation, this has to be contender for episode of the year for me not just for anime but for everything. And believe it or not there are even sadder backstories then this that I actually SOBBED to, especially in the more recent chapters, its a shame we'll have to wait a couple years for that 😔😭.

J

then don't or comment on the last one piece upload

Huewi

My only complaint is that they didn't make it very obvious she committed suicide or that she was selling her body, but besides that fantastic episode.

Sanji

Maybe it’s cuz I read the manga but I thought the suicide and prostitution was fairly obvious in the anime. Yet a bunch of anime onlys didn’t really catch on it. Still a goated adaption tho 🔥

Can’t touch this Stone

chainsaw man fucked me up irredeemably("no spoilers please for people not caught up."). I still felt this one though. Hate wondering what happened to the lil girl

Nash

I remember reading this chapter omg💔

Kyle

idk I don't think everything has to be spoon feed. I like the way they did it

Huewi

@Kyle I agree, I like the way they did it too however I think a wide shot of her dancing off the building like in the manga would fit the stylization they were going for in the anime and make it more obvious to anime only's that she took her life. Because the amount of people on twitter that thought she bled out and was hallucinating was crazy, even these guys seemed to think that so yeah I think it would have benefited from that. But it probably came down to censorship issues in the end.

Charlie

Wow. I love when i watch a show i know nothing about and have zero expectations for and then get BLOWN AWAY like this.

kuza

this episode has changed how i view and feel about dandadan now great episode

Alex

Demon Slayer backstory flashbacks WISH they could hit this hard :'). This episode got me feeling just as messed up as the first time I read the chapter. absolute cinema.

Elizabeth Klutts

This chapter in the manga broke me… It felt even sadder in the anime. There’s so much emotions throughout… The story was written in so well and the animation is incredible. I’m glad their spirits got to be at peace in the end because, they were dealt such a tragic fate. 😭

Linn

You must rewatch it with Cannon! I want to see everyone’s reaction.

derick ako

Oh you did? It seemed like Brig was speaking in general terms and not referring to the episode. It just seemed like you guys didn't notice because you didn't say anything during the episode and you were confused why she was being attacked. But if guys actually caught it then my bad.

chloe

the manga is much more explicit in showing how acro silky died but the subtle/censored adaptation honestly affected me more. i didnt expect to cry this much as i already knew what was gonna happen, but the direction, the soundtrack, and the voice acting was perfectly done i was bawling at the end. the animation team really did above and beyond for this episode

chloe

i saw a video edit on twt of the manga vs the adapation. both are so tragically beautiful

Big Papi

The gold ball has made her more spiritually in tune and she has just received silkys aura

T.Yaseen

This episode finished me god damn...

sil

me: crying bawling whole episode dandadan ending: turbo granny with the hair dryer

Lulu

This episode is so beautiful but so sad. The backstory of this woman is unfortunately very realistic. As many people have already commented, she was selling herself to make ends meet and the little girl was probably taken by yakuza that the woman owed money to (I haven't read the manga so I defer to everyone else on that, but that's what I imagine happened). As a way to pay off her debt, they would likely traffic the little girl (either now or in the future), or sell her organs. That is unfortunately common globally but it is apparently a big problem in Asia that their media is becoming more vocal about as you've seen from Squid Game, Chainsaw Man and now potentially this. I'm not sure if it's as bad in Japan, but my fiancé and I went to see the Chinese theater show, Shen Yun, last Christmas and there was an entire dance/segment about how the government abducts their own citizens (ones that object to the Communist government or are Christian), murders them and sells their organs. That is a terrifying thought but I'm glad these artists are being brave enough to draw attention to the terrible things they know are happening.

Cookie

absolute peak

CoLdBITeR

You guys should try watching the anime movie "wolf children" if you liked this episode so much.

A_Daddy Daichi

This was so beautiful and heartbreaking. This anime has everything!
