I think it would be good if you guys paid attention or even made notes of the years they keep flashing. That way, you will know exactly how old the characters are...Thorfinn in episodes 1-5 is 6 years old, I think last episode around 15:51 they flashed the year and the place...you will need to go back and calculate the age of Thorfinn (I think they flashed 2 years in the first episode - one when Thors is on the Norway campaign, and second when he is in Iceland with his family). Also, DO NOT look up characters ages or anything, YOU WILL BE SPOILED!

Also, I think Viking boats were very light, so they did carry them on land over short distances. And some evidence of vikings using psychedelic berserker mushrooms as well, though one cannot know for sure!

Somebody explained that this is similar to “Levi syndrome” which means that due to lack of proper nutrition required for children, and constantly being in survival mode, he has stunted growth. if i remember correctly, this episode was the first chapter in the manga. so in the mangaka's early art, the character design for the frank is the only real one that looks jarring / wonky.

There's so much history and mythology to this show that I could rant about forever but it's probably more fun to watch this this blind so I'll hold back 🫡 But Jörmungandr is the world serpent in norse mythology and it circles the entire world (midgard) biting its own tail. Funnily enough, he's the son of Loki lol

Yes, I was just going to say that! Nutrition plays such a huge role in human development, and if Thorfinn is pretty much fending for himself since age 6, he is most certainly malnourished

Exactly! And also I think Cannon said in one of the videos that why don’t they have shields to protect from arrows. It is important to remember that weapons, horses were very expensive then, not every common soldier could afford these. Those with a higher military rank had better equipment which increased their odds of survival. One must never underestimate the role of economics and technology in the past !

Viking is just a term to describe a raider/Pirate of Scandinavian origin (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish), fierce, yes, not OP though, and they CAN be matched by the regular English kingdom Army, man for man (except for FEW characters). They are bandits and occasionally mercenaries for hire for the right group (in this case it's Sweyn Folkbeard, King of Denmark). Askeladd's group are primarily mercenaries (who raid a LOT, obviously, they're Vikings) but the burning, pillaging, murder, rape? ALL armies did that, English or Scandinavian, still do it even, till modern times, albeit less. Jomsvikings are professional mercenaries, the most revered group with a foreboding reputation under the direct employment of King Sweyn (As opposed to 3rd party employments of the smaller raider mercenary groups like Askeladd).

Also the story is following real history, the English DID massacre Danish settled villages in Danelaw, which caused Sweyn to actively start and increase raiding the English coast for roughly a decade+, this season is the depiction of THAT particular conflict from the perspective of Thorfinn's fictional history (who BTW was a very real historical person, Thorfinn Karlsefni, but we don't know anything about his young life thus the extreme liberties of the show)
