Same here, I’ve started liking Vinland Saga more than AoT, and we still have about 3-4 more seasons of VS. My favorite VS episode will happen around season 5ish, and it has one of the most powerful moments I’ve seen in a long time, but I will have to wait a couple of years for it to be animated. Lol.

This is the only episode that got me emotional even on the second watch through, and now I cried on the third watch as well. This is literally the all time best episode of any show regardless of what imdb has to say

I CANNOT say enough…. VINLAND IS PEAKLAND. This is one of the rare jewels in anime that has the ability to make many cry JUST from dialogue through many episodes. Thorfinn is doing it!!! From him saying, “what is it that I want to do?” TO “I know what I need to do.” 😩 I’m so freaking proud of our man Thorfinn. Arnheid’s character was VITAL in this season. So for people saying she was too focused on… sit down. She is (in some ways unfortunately) the CATALYST to what Thorfinn & Einar are about to do. Canute doing what he did gave me MAD respect for that man. So freaking good. Masterpiece. Next episode, Home, is about to be emotional… 🥹 the beginning “carve it” makes sense now, coming full circle 🔥

I just had to cry again :') I just love soooo many things on this episode that is hard to even remember all of them. Canute backing out from the farm it was for me, the representation of him being released from "the crown curse", it's the first time he didn't act like the floating head said. In the manga, Canute said to Thorffin that he acts like Askeladd now, but I like that in the anime they went with "who do you take after" line because he resembles Askeladd stance and is eloquent like him, but he is speaking Thors ideals at the moment, so I loved that small detail ❤️. Another thing that happen in the manga is that when they are saying their goodbyes, both Einar and Thorffin mention that they don't want to see Ketil animore. I'm glad that you got Arnheid, I've seen a lot of people missing the point of her character and actually even hating her for some reason, when she is THIS important for our boys. One last thing, that poem at the end, the "Carve it" it was on the first episode as Carter said, I'm glad you notice haha, although at the beginning it was Gardarthe one that was shown when it was running, you can see him fighting and even caressing his child cheek with Arnheid holding him.

Wish they kept in the narration from the manga at the end, it closes out the arc much better with the knowledge that thorkell is never heard from again and that half the farm was sold by olmar since Ketil had expanded way too much

Lets give credit to Yukimura for creating a masterpiece, and taking the time to writing something impactful. I'm looking forward to finishing out the Vinland Saga series, and whatever Yukimura is going to write next (he has hinted that he wants to write something futuristic such as his previous work, Planetes).

One of the most impactful lines of this episode is when Pater is talking to Arnheid's grave and says "In my life, I've always endured. I thought that was the way of the world." Because it says so much about the suffering he has gone through in his life and how he just had to accept it in order to survive. So for him to see Thorfinn and Einar's goal of going to Vinland and creating a place for people to WANT to live without that underlying fear is so important to him. Like, he never even imagined men with those ideals could exist in this world of suffering. Every character has such an important part in this story. I just love it. The story continues to be so good from here, but the Farmland arc will always have a special place in my heart. It's so powerful. (Also Thorfinn and Einar calling each other "brother" will never not make me emotional.)

its actually quite simple to see why canute was convinced so easily, his way of thinking and his ideals have not changed since his realisation in season 1 ep18 where he realises that viking warriors cannot be saved by the trials god puts before them, but in this episode we see canute say, “so the vikings are capable of producing someone like you” canute sees with his own eyes a changed man whos endured so much and come out the other side a better person, and it makes him think differently straight away

I’m so glad you guys understand the absolute MASTERPIECE that is S2 of Vinland. I was a little worried that its message would get lost and that you guys wouldn’t trust the process because of the 180 the show makes in terms of storytelling and pacing but it truly makes me happy you guys enjoyed it so much. This season made Vinland surpass AOT as my all time favorite anime which is saying A LOT and apparently we haven’t even scratched the surface. Some of the best moments are yet to come from what I’ve heard from Manga readers. I hope you guys continue to follow the series bc I’ll be loyally looking forward to your reactions. 🫶🥹

The next arc, after Farmland Saga, is definitely my favorite. Great characters, writing, and action. I can't wait to see it animated as in my opinion, it will be just as good as Farmland Saga, just very different.

Yeah, some of the most intense action scenes in the Vinland Saga series have yet to be animated. My favorite moment so far is the last scene in the most recent chapter. If Vinland Saga ended the series on that scene, I would have been satisfied.

Olmar aspired to be a warrior but turned out to be something greater: a farmer. I love Gramps, truly a worker's man. And although he is a grumpy man, I think he is saying "it was just a deal" to highlight his principles more so than being grumpy at that point. When he was first introduced, he was very critical of Ketil for his ambition to obtain excessive wealth and exploiting people (both slaves and poor farmers too) in order to do so then using money to protect it (having "guests", offering tribute etc.), then trying to earn more and so on. He advocates for working people to get a fair return for the labor they put in. He could make slaves do his chores but he chooses to give them tools and horses in return of their work. The way I like to read ending for the farm is, Olmar is redistributing some of the land and wealth to people, reducing inequality and poverty so that you won't need "guests" to catch starving children that steals some flour. Hence, why they become farmers in the end and we see Gramps content.

Ngl, I saw all of season 2 and I did not love it. I enjoyed the show overall, but I just had a lot of issues with it and I think most of these will be super unpopular opinions.. First off, the ending felt kinda cheap to me. It basically was just the writer saying do things like this and everything will end happily ever after, but things just don't work like that in real life. It was so absurdly unrealistic to the point of being laughable. It was just a way for the writer to push his point and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Second, I never cared about Arnheid and still don't. I can't even tell you why, I have no good reason. Third, I'm still salty the Leif reunion was offscreen. I got so excited when we first saw Leif again and then got progressively more and more annoyed every week while the Gardar arc was happening that I didn't get a reunion in the episode. After a few weeks, I would literally end the episode screaming obscenities at my TV when I didn't get a pay off again. Then they did it offscreen and I was just a pit of despair. Fourth, I think Snake is a rat for killing Gardar. I will never forgive him for that. Who cares if he killed your men, your men were after him for a bounty. He was purely in the right and was trying to save his enslaved wife. Fuck Snake. POS makes my blood boil and it makes me angry they forgave him. Also, I just found the season more boring than the first. I understand the point of the story, I just don't really care. I enjoyed the grand schemes and mystery of Askeladd way more than the deep character stuff. I said it. I know people who like season 2 more like to think they are above us season 1 enjoyers, but I'm just being real (very brave of me, I know!).

I think the scale of the story is just not for you. Season 1 have a larger scale, with all those kingdom politics and stuff which feels a lot more epic. Season 2, the author scale down the story to a farm. Everything seems a lot more personal. I find the character in season 2 as someone that I can actually relate and see in real life. For example Ketil, He is a slave owner, and see Arnheid as a property which is bad and problematic. But the author show that he indeed has a tinge of kindness and empathy in his heart, He just don't have the strength and courage to back it up. I can relate to this, sometimes we are afraid to do something that we know is good because how everyone around us will judge us. When he finally get his courage, It is based on anger, not empathy for other people, which is tragic. As for your first point, the story hasn't finished yet. So we don't know whether Thorfinn will utimately succeed or not, whether he will need to tweak his ideals. Thorfinn ideal is violence as last resort, not no violence at all. Run, and run, and run first then fight only when there is no more option. Not fight first then run. And even when we choose to fight, It is not something that we need to be proud of. Always try to reflect, whether It is really necessary. I can understand if you don't like it. Afterall everyone go through life differently, and it affects what kind of story they will enjoy. I too have popular story that I can't get into. Ultimately I believe absurdism is one of the theme of the story. We have to embrace the absurdity of life, but then rebel against it. Einar choose to live, when living seems pointless, he lost his family and freedom (what's the point of living). Canute want to create a paradise for people that don't know how to love indiscriminately, for people that is the farthest from love. Thorfinn radical pacifism against the absurdity that to achieve peace, we need violence. The dream of Vinland seems absurd and impossible, yet the author tell us to seek it. Afterall the best revenge against hopelessness is to hope.

To be clear, I didn't hate the second season. I still think the season was an enjoyable watch and had a lot of good qualities, I just much preferred the first. I had a lot of issues with this one, especially with lack of payoff (in my opinion). The pacifism story as a whole which the whole season was building up, had a subpar ending, at least philosophically. Sure watching Thorfinn take 100 punches was cool, but the philosophy just didn't make sense to me. In my opinion, the way Canute left without taking the farm and then got rid of his armies and suddenly everyone liked him in England was just absurd. That's what I meant by my first point. It just seemed like the author saying get rid of your armies and good things will happen, just felt cheap and unrealistic to further his talking points. Also, the scale is not an issue for me. My favourite anime is Steins Gate and I love it because of the characters more than the plot. I am fine with focusing on characters.
