Hopefully the pastor at that wedding read the rest of Ephesians 5:22-33, otherwise that couple needs to run far far away from that denomination (preferably out of the religion altogether). That passage was also read at my wedding and as it was explained to me, if you read the 2nd part of it regarding how husbands are supposed to act towards their wives, is that men have the even mightier duty than just support and submission; they are to love their wives like Christ loved the church. And what did Christ do for the church? He died for it. Therefore, Christian men have the burden of being self-sacrificial in everything they do regarding their marriage and their wife; they have be willing to metaphorically die for it. As my ex husband put it, men have the harder "cross to bear" in a [Christian] marriage than women do.
