Re: Hijab and face recognition. If the authorities are keen on hijabs for women and enforcing this by law, how is it legal there to strip away that hijab via technology?

Hey Tom and Cecil- recommend listening to the first 10-15mins of the Jack podcast. I too was wondering how the US government doesn’t have some sort of filing system for classified documents. Andrew McCabe (former FBI director) goes over how it actually works. It sheds light on how and why Biden may have classified docs. Although I absolutely agree there needs to be an overhaul of how these files are distributed and filed. This explanation really assisted in my understanding of how it works. Love the Pod 😊

Talk of the estrogen-like chemicals in soy (re the hops in beer) and the loss to society when we fail to invest in promising people (re Modest Needs) reminds me of the story of Percy Julian, which I tell whenever possible because he's not nearly as well known as he should be. Percy Julian was an African American biochemist born in 1899. He was allowed to attend a mostly-white university (DePauw) but was not allowed to live in the dorms or eat in the dining halls. He had to got to Vienna to get his doctorate. After returning to America, he figured out how to synthesize sex hormones from soy. This is a much bigger deal than it seems at first glance. Before Julian, if scientists or doctors wanted testosterone, estrogen, or progesterone, they had to literally grind up and sieve animal gonads and spinal cords, making them extraordinarily rare and expensive. In fact, Julian's first batch was so valuable it was shipped in an armored car. Percy Julian is the reason we have dirt-cheap hormonal contraceptives and the reason that most research involving sex hormones was able to proceed at all. His home was firebombed by fucking racists and he didn't give. In contrast, I have actually cried real tears because the line at Burger King was too long. American society did everything it could to prevent Julian's success. We didn't deserve the gift he gave us.

Greetings folks from Down Under. I’ve been thinking about George Santos lately. How bad must the Democratic Party be in Long Island. Who did they have running against him in the Election? Any minimal opposition research on the guy would have uncovered these things and brought them to the public before the vote? I think that’s something you can discuss on the show.
