Hey Cecil - HR director here - I hope you haven’t signed yet - and I don’t know what they offered you - it’s not a voluntary term, so you are eligible for unemployment. Get an attorney to negotiate for at LEAST two weeks for every year of service. It will take someone who has been loyal to one company much longer to find another job - I know you have a plan B- but I have NEVER, in my over 20 years of service not seen a person with a lawyer not get infinitely more than someone who just signs the agreement blindly.

Continued - If they are offering you 6 months to a year of severance - this is the average. If you know a lawyer who will negotiate for you, it will pay for itself. When I heard your story, my heart sank, I’ve been that HR person and it sucks, I no longer do HR consulting and work for much less than I could because I hated that part of my job. If you signed already, there is a period of time where you can still withdraw your acceptance. But what happened was definitely involuntary. You should get them to pay for your insurance for a period of time too - lawyer up!!!!!!!

The next step for Florida is to add more benefits of slavery like free room and board while getting free labour training. This is the most ignorant entitled moronic idea I've ever heard. Just bumped up my membership. I left a job suddenly several years ago. I realized the stress was killing me--I wasn't eating or sleeping and lost 10lbs in a month (which may not sound like much but was very abnormal for me). I walked out and faced a situation not unlike Cecil's. Bravo for walking away from basically being exploited. I'm currently comfortably(ish) employed, so I'm beyond happy to support you for all the entertainment y'all provide me every week. Make all the commercial changes you need. Wow, the joys of working in academia! All my sympathies. Hey, Cecil, would this change open space for more book club stuff? I would patronize that apart from Cog Dis, especially if you could include SF, and maybe how it takes up issues important to the skeptical/atheist communities. Maybe something that divides a book up over 4 or 5 weeks, maybe crossing over with other podcasts for discussion, or even allowing some patron participation via chst or questions/comments. I loved going through Carl Sagan with you guys and would so much love doing that more.

Every time I hear mention of the gerrymandering in your country it sadly reminds me of the corrupt **** Joh Bjelke-Petersen we had here as a State Premier. Thanks to even more corruption he managed to avoid jail. But here we now have the https://www.aec.gov.au which determines electoral boundaries based on the changes in demographics and not the social/racial makeup that will affect votes. And if you've followed the social media of the AEC over the years you'll see they get their information across with a mixture of humour and not taking shit from morons. I don't see the US political system improving until you get an independent entity defining electoral boundaries. And adding in a process like all those socialist countries have such as proportional representation or preferential voting would also help immensely. BTW if you want to discuss elections see if you can get an interview with Aussie election analyst (and national treasure) Antony Green. I think that could go off into some very interesting places.
