Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you're all having a nice week so far :) For anyone who celebrated July 4th yesterday I hope you had a nice time too. So this Friday I'll be uploading a deredere monster girl maid audio. I'll be working on the art for that later today so I'm really excited <3

Next Friday I was thinking we could do an ocean themed character. I wanted to pick some weird ones so let's go! :D

I recently did some Lain fanart for an audio this Saturday on youtube and I thought of a question for us this week. What was your first experience on the internet like? Or to be more specific, maybe a site that you found yourself drawn to the most.

Growing up I had two big ones: Myspace and Runescape (WoW came later haha!)

I don't remember much back then but my first internet interaction was watching my brother and his friend go on omegle for some shenanigans. Being the impressionable young one, I decided to go on it by myself one day like a big boy and it was certainly an experience. The websites I remember fondly from then would probably be YouTube and Newgrounds, with some Minecraft sprinkled here and there.

At least for when I was able to get onto the internet for myself and not specifically for school I would say the three website that made my adolescence was DeviantArt, YouTube, and OneManga (a defunct manga pirate site). I wasn't much an online gamer cause I was nervous about actually socializing as a kid.

My first memory of the internet was probably watching my sister download music from limewire (statute of limitations is probably up). My first personal experience was probably playing flash games on my mom's computer at work, I played on newgrounds, armor games, and kongregate. We didn't have halfway decent internet until I was in like 7th grade (one of the advantages of living in the middle on nowhere). I do remember when my friend was playing runescape when I went over to his house and I was like oh that's so cool, and then I never play again.

My very first experience I can remember with the internet was playing games on the PBS Kids website. Such a distant memory that I can’t even remember how old I was for certain, would’ve had to been younger than 7 though haha. Growing up my family never really had a computer or internet in the house so most of my childhood experience with computers was playing various flash games on the public library computers

Pretty sure my first memory of the internet is playing games on the nickelodeon website. It was mostly knock-offs of arcade games with nickelodeon skins. I also remember that my first computer was so bad that the games ran at 5 frames-per-second and were super easy as a result. I'm pretty sure I had more fun back then than I do now with a gaming pc and the ability to buy whatever game I want.

The only part of the 4th that was bad was my cat was scared of the fireworks, but it also meant she slept under my blanket all night which was cozy. My very first memory of the internet was going on it when I was a my babysitters as a kid but I don't remember anything that I looked at specifically during that time lol. My first real memories were playing games on a lot of sites that people have already mentioned; Nickelodeon, Armor Games, Kongregate, Cool Math Games, Cartoon Network, etc. I did also play a large amount of RuneScape with my cousin and watched YouTube videos. Although I mainly would watch Halo Music Videos (HMVs), however the term HMV has been hijacked by a certain NSFW term so I can't really use that anymore.

Artilleries

I was like 4, I don't remember sh#* XD So, I guess I'll give you a counter-question instead; what was MySpace like?

Crimson command

Ohhh this is a hard choice all the options are good. Well I spent 4th of July at anime expo it was the last day and I was sad to see it end but it was an absolute blast but now I can get some proper rest. Hmmm my first experience on the internet was probably watching a lot of AMV's and some Gmod made like film kinda things which I loved alot and still like but they have both become rare these days

I never went on Omegle but I'm sure that was an experience! I remember Newgrounds, they had some cool games on there if I remember right. It's been so long though I can't remember what they were called now haha!

I didn't start going on DA until I was a little older, but I remember really enjoying the old site a lot! I still upload art there but I'm not really active in terms of commenting and stuff. You talking about manga sites reminded me I always used to go on this one when I was at school lol. It's been so long I can't even remember the name of it xD

Kai Zomei

In more recent years, I use DA as a repository for my art cause it's the best gallery site I have, and I keep up with a few artists that stay put there. Oh, the nostalgia of those old manga sites that have a good run until they disappear and you wonder what happened to that good content.

Man, I really related to your comment about having bad internet! The only time I was really able to enjoy being on the computer was on weekends when I went to visit my Dad. My entire weekends consisted of nothing but computer time pretty much. I took full advantage! During the week with my Mom though the internet was nonexistent (or may has well have been) since she lived in the middle of nowhere also. Love that you brought up limewire lol it seemed like everyone used that back then haha!

alichuart

I can relate to that! I didn't really start to enjoy the internet outside of school until I was a little older, probably around 6th-7th grade or so. My mom lived in the middle of nowhere, so I really only got to play online games and stuff when I visited my Dad on the weekends since he had working internet. I loved going to the library as a kid- half of it was for books but the other half was definitely to take advantage of their internet hehe :P

alichuart

Oh wow, I really related to your last sentence lol. Even though I don't have a gaming computer I still get that nostalgic feeling of how much fun games were for me back then. Some of my best memories are playing Runescape and WoW- all of which were on a trash computer for sure. There's also no better feeling than those late nights playing my playstation 2 without a care in the world <3

alichuart

Ngl, not 100% sure what HMV is used for nowadays but I have a pretty good guess lol. But back to the most important thing here! Your poor kitty! :( I hope she is ok now that she had blanket time with you. I only played a little bit of halo growing up with some friends. I never played the story but when you could fight against each other- noob here, not sure what it was called haha!

alichuart

Sit down young one, for I have a tale of long ago- a tale of ranking your friends on a top eight scale, customizing your profile, and a most important, a man named Tom. Haha, I'm just kidding with you- I couldn't help myself! xD Seriously though, I loved Myspace. I was definitely one of those emo kids growing up that made my profile all edgy and roleplayed via messages of my even edgier characters that lived in some anime universe lol. edited comment because I had to say this! I'm pretty sure my beloved Bring Me The Horizon started out on Myspace if I'm remembering correctly!

alichuart

I'm happy to hear you had a good time at the con! :) Make sure to get yourself plenty of rest. I loved watching AMVs growing up! I had so much fun finding ones with songs I enjoyed at the time- very cool for sure <3

JokermanTalon

Your guess is probably right, it's like an AMV but also not. Something about a HEN with a TIE or something like that. Also yeah my cat is fine! She is very spoiled old lady so I'm sure she's already forgotten about the scary sounds lol. Halo is probably the most influential game as a child, I spent a lot of time playing it with my friends in high school as well as my cousins. However I don't really know if it has a specific name for playing against other people tbh so you're good. Everyone I knew just called it multiplayer

dead to me

My vote is jellyfish :) Y'all got it covered with limewire and myspace and newgrounds (the degenerate tween stomping grounds). I played RuneScape as a kid, for a bit, but I got murdled in the wildies and cried. Never played again. If old-world mmos are on the table tho, I remember playing a loooot of a game called Ragnarok Online. It was really popular cuz WoW wasn't a thing yet and it was more anime than EverQuest. I haven't heard anyone talk about it at all since it died, I forgot about it completely for a long time. I liked it the most cuz I somehow got my classmates to play it too. It was nothing but stupid drama but big nostalgia. All the DotHack kids played that game. We made fun of all the Balmungs, they were everywhere.

alichuart

Haha, ngl I sucked so bad at Runescape it wasn't even funny. I think I was too young to fully understand what to do but damn if I didn't try. Funny story, I learned about Smashing Pumpkins via a Runescape friend. I still remember how that conversation about music went all these years later xD I've never played Ragnarok Online but it's funny you bring it up because I just recently watched an ASMR video of someone playing it. Gaming ASMR is my favorite and someone I follow had a pretty cool video playing it. I wish I knew about that growing up, I definitely would have been all over it haha! Nice dothack reference there :P I would have been a Kite...Eh, who am I kidding. I was edgy back then so I probably would have been Haseo.

Lmao the infamous terror of death PKK Alichu. Such rage, such angst 💀 I think everyone back then had a little haseo-phase. I always looked up to Bear as a kid, I liked him and him was role model, but in the end it turns out I was a Tsukasa all along. Quiet and sad. Funny story rollback, speaking of sad, Smashing Pumpkins - The Infinite Sadness was one of the first albums I downloaded on limewire, with Nirvana - Nevermind and VNV - Empires... I think? Classics the lot, either way. Synchronicity is such fun hah I'll hafta look into gaming asmr, like idk what that would even entail.

alichuart

I loved Tsukasa growing up- I even had a little plushie that I sadly lost somewhere. I loved there was a point in one of the old games you got to play with them, I thought that was the coolest thing :D I never used limewire myself, but God knows everyone I knew did. I even remember my aunt using it lol xD Gotta say, your music taste are chefs kiss to me. Favorite SP song is probably "Eye" all these years later. Gaming ASMR is pretty cool! Since I don't have time to play games like I want it's really nice to chill out to :)

dead to me

Bruv those PS2 games were great. And clunky. A friend and I played thru em together way back, I still got the first one round here... somewhere. Rip plushie
