You recently picked up a new book and it's the perfect day to chill and read at the local library. While you don't visit often, you figure why not- maybe you'll find some similar titles there while you're at it. As you make your way inside you notice a girl sitting alone reading...is that Bret Easton Ellis? Although the more obvious thing is that she's clearly the popular girl in your class, right? What's she doing here?

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have a nice weekend and new year! ^_^ This character was definitely not me making an excuse to talk about books- of course not! And I definitely don't like cute girls who like to read- nope, not me. Sometimes I feel like I make myself imaginary girlfriends and I'm just choosing to share them with you all in story form :P

One of you suggested that I make her someone that you wouldn't expect to find at a library, and I really liked that idea, so thank you! I think that little addition made her even more cute lol. Anyway, that's enough out of me. I'll be sharing the art and a little funny picture with you all tomorrow. Until then, have a wonderful day or night! :)

Wow. This art is really striking. Looks great!

BloodyAzazel

The art looks soo adorable. The aspect part of this also being a popular girl just adds the touch to know damn well this is gonna be a secret that's kept for a while until something happens. I find this a bit funny since I think watching this while I'm fishing in minecraft for books is just so eager to enjoy. It's easy for me to "catch on" to anything that a book could give me anyways.

Sir Skelington

Hey I can keep a secret, haven't you heard, "Dead men tell no tales"? Oh man that ending reminds me of when I was in high school and a girl gave me her number in the library, lets just say I was always bad at picking up on hints. I still feel bad about that one. Also I like this character, I just like contradictory characters in general, like a goth chick who's actually really sweet.

Artilleries

Awh I love this character design. This is her 'Clark Kent' form. Everyday on her way to school, she enters a phone booth, puts her hair down, takes her glasses off, throws on an fancy jacket and expensive bag. Boom, popular girl. Then on her way back home, vice versa. Haha, that's the sorta vibe I'm getting. XD I actually recently searched for an old childhood book I remember loving - a child's encyclopedia from 2000. Some outdated information of course (such as Pluto being a planet; something I personally stand by!), but I still plan to read some of it again - mainly the earth/geography sections. Neat audio, Ali! I hope you and every Ali-cat reading has a good day/night and a wonderful New Years!

I've been slacking on my reading for quite a while, my list is definitely getting longer (I'll admit, mostly history books), but I'll also admit in my youth I read a lot of the classics about a hundred times each, you know, TLotR, The Hobbit, Treasure Island, The Lord of the Flies, etc etc. I could probably recite a couple of the books word for word if I tried hard enough 😅, or if I'm being realistic, the major parts of each chapter. Thanks for the audio Ali, I really like the artwork today, it definitely gave off the vibes of the character in the audio!

JokermanTalon

Oh books, the one thing that I hardly ever have time to interact with lol. Funnily enough though, I do have a Lovecraft compendium sitting next to my desk if I ever do need something to read! Of the few stories from it that I have read tho, The Shadow over Innsmouth is my favorite. Speaking of reading, I have started to play Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (game by the same people that made Rogue Trader) and it also has ungodly amounts of reading lol. It's good though and has probably my favorite RPG party member of all time!

Kai Zomei

I love this type of character subversion. Sounds like she's been getting into some classic literature.

alichuart

Haha, what a fitting audio to listen to while fishing for books! :D I've only played a little minecraft in my life so I didn't even know that was a thing, but I like it very much! Fishing in any game has always been my thing. I've spent years trying to get all the fishing achievements in WoW because I just find it so enjoyable :P I'm glad you liked the audio and art Azazel, thank you!

alichuart

What a fitting saying coming from a skelly, she doesn't need to worry about her secret coming out with you! As for the girl giving you her number, don't feel too bad. I'm an undead too and sometimes our lack of big brains make us a little oblivious lol. I've had a similar situation and now that I'm older I'm like "Ohhh, that's what they were doing- whoopsie" lol.

alichuart

That exactly the vibe I was going for with her haha! Not sure if you're familiar with the anime Himouto! Umaru-chan but I picture her like that- which is pretty much the same funny premise just a popular girl hiding the fact that she's an otaku haha! xD Reading old books is a lot of fun! I can't tell you how often I re-read books. It's really neat to see how much you as the reader have changed since you last read it. What makes it even more fun is if you do what I do and put sticky notes in your books about your thoughts- then you can really see how much you change when you revisit it :P I hope you have a good new years too Antoni, thank you!

alichuart

Oh, I love all the ones you listed- especially LoTR and The Hobbit of course :P I barely remember Treasure Island though, it's been a while since I read that. It's funny you brought up the Lord of the Flies because I just re-read that recently. I've always loved the premise of that story so it's a fun one to revisit. I don't even want to say how many books I have just sitting there waiting for me to read them so don't feel too bad! We'll get to them eventually. I'm glad you enjoyed the audio and art this week, thank you! :D

alichuart

Oh, very nice! The Shadow over Innsmouth is good too. I'm curious if we have the same one. Considering how many collections of Lovecraft there are probably not but hey, that would be neat! :D I try to make a point to read Lovecraft at very least once a year around Halloween lol. I've always loved games that make the player read, makes me feel more involved in the world. Hell, given the amount of games you play I'm sure you read quite a bit when you think about it! :P I'm curious who your favorite RPG party member is?

alichuart

Thanks Kai, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun writing this one but I have a huge bias for girls and characters that love books lol. Definitely one of my favorite traits in a character :P

JokermanTalon

It probably isn't, I couldn't even find my exact version while quickly googling so it's probably out of print lol. I would wager that I have read a lot more than people that just casually read books. I also tend to read subtitles instead of listening to actual dialogue because it's faster. However these CRPGs (games like Baulders Gate 3, Rogue Trader, Pathfinder) are all super dialogue heavy which in turn leads to a lot of reading. Then there's also games, like the masterpiece Disco Elysium, that are almost all dialogue but still have a bit more going on than a visual novel. As for my favorite party member, it's a dude named Daeran. He is a really good healer that is one of the biggest pieces of shit out there lol, but not in like a villain way. He doesn't really like people at all and will fuck with people constantly but ultimately he isn't like a serial killer or something despite being listed as Evil in game. For example, he tells a story about how he bought a recently deceased hero's land and helmet, all so he could turn the helmet into his own bathroom on the land later. Also maybe relevant to you but there is another party member, Arueshalae, who is a succubus waifu. Although she has reformed her demonic ways and is actually kinda wholesome.

Thanks for introducing us to another gf of yours Ali lol, honestly I’m the exact kinda person that loves the idea of being someone who reads but never actually makes the time to do so. I know, I know I’m terrible. I used to read so much when I was a kid but I kinda just lost interest as I grew older, nowadays drawing and working out (mostly drawing haha) has taken pretty much all of my free time

Delta

Adorable character design! What really caught my attention was when you mentioned Lovecraft since I actually do have his complete works, no idea where I got it from, one day, it was just there (kind of creepy if you ask me haha) Still have yet to read, or watch American Psycho, mainly because a person I know, who I thought was obnoxiously annoying, who was actually named Patrick as well, was obsessed with it, and thought of himself as Patrick Bateman.. and looked up to the character.. probably a red flag right there.. lol And when you mentioned vampires, I honestly thought you were gonna mention the original I am Legend book, since I'm the original book and movie, they were more actual vampires vs the zombie like creatures in the remake lol

alichuart

Yeah, I would bet you probably do read more than most given those games! Kinda related but that's why I always found it annoying when people give games a bad rap- as in playing them. I would bet games probably make people read more, which is such a win in my opinion, so I don't understand that way of thinking at all lol. Sorry for the mini rant, I had a customer shitting on their kid for playing games earlier and it irritated me xD Daeran sounds like my kinda guy ngl. That probably isn't surprising since all my male anime crushes are complete ass holes and narcissistic as hell. I do love the bit about the bathroom though, that's really funny! lol. I had to look up Arueshalae and she's really pretty! I love her wings especially :P

alichuart

You're not terrible Succotash! There's only so much time we have so you should definitely use it doing the things you enjoy most- or at least that's how I see it :P Speaking of working out, I started following some female body builders on youtube and I'm kinda obsessed now lol. I'm giving it my best this time and I think I'm starting to see some muscle instead of losing weight like before. I think the most difficult thing for me right now is eating enough (not as in I don't want to eat but enough to yield results).

alichuart

Oh goodness, I can only imagine the bundle of joy that person was! xD Ngl, I found it very strange when Patrick all of a sudden blew up in popularity. Even more strange that people called him a "sigma"- never made sense to me lol. As someone who has seen the movie and read the book, he is definitely not someone to look up to in any way. If anything, his life and character are very sad and should be a warning of what NOT to be! I've never read the I am Legend book! I do remember really liking the movie though, so I'll have to add that one to my list of ones to try :D The random appearance of your Lovecraft collection is very creepy I have to say. But hey, at least it's a collection of good stories and not Colleen Hoover! xD I'm sorry to anyone that likes her work, but I couldn't help myself.

Delta

Oh yea, he was.. wonderfully "cheerful", definitely a nihilistic person, which made it even more concerning that he would look up to Bateman as a role model lol I actually wonder if he was named for the character since he was born in the '90s and his parents read a lot. I need to re-read it, definitely a far cry from the modern movie! Lol And yea, pretty creepy, but, honestly, I'm no stranger to paranormal stuff happening lol

JokermanTalon

I don't mind the rant, I don't really get people that think that video games are lower than other forms of entertainment for whatever reason. I completely understand if people just don't like them, but to make strange justifications for disliking them is strange. Also to there was some stuff that Daeran said while I was playing yesterday that gives a pretty good idea of what he's about. At least probably better than what I could describe and I also just really like the lines. Direct Daeran lines from the game (Mostly, I made small edits to make it understandable outside of the plot): "I generously toss crusts to a little beggar girl, while at the same time helping my demon-collaborating brother, whose actions have led to the deaths of entire families. Aren't I just a bleeding heart?" Daeran drawls mockingly. "The thought of you going to your grave wallowing in your own self-righteousness is enough to turn my stomach. I do regret that we did not kill your brother first - I should have liked to see your reaction, smith. Be a good sport - die whimpering, knowing that your brother was the demons' plaything and that you were the hypocrite who helped him. You'll both make a fine feast for the worms, at least."

alichuart

Haha, yeah- I would 100% enjoy Daeran's personality xD If there is a way you can make him talk/interact with your character I could only hope he talked to me like that lmao

alichuart

Hear me out. Maybe, just maybe he was named after Patrick...Star :P lol I kid, I kid. That would be pretty funny though!

Delta

Lol early 90s, he was born in the early 90s

Secular Succotash

I relate to that so hard atm, I realized I’m not gonna gain much more mass than I have with the diet I’ve been on so I’m trying bulking for the first time and getting all my carbs in is a struggle haha …so much goddamn rice.
