This felt weird and I didn't like it. Are Peyton and Luke gone? Like gone, gone? Forever? Last episode I didn't get the impression they were leaving Tree Hill. I thought they were just going for a drive. But I didn't check the credits. I did notice that Julian is in the main titles though.

I wonder if we're getting Quinn and Clay as replacements for them, assuming they're gone, of course. We spent way too much time following around Clay for him not to be one of our new main characters, right? I mean, I get we had to establish him in order for his bombshell at the end of the episode to be worrying, but still. I did not need that much of him.

And we got another time jump. 14 months this time.

Let's start with the good. Brooke and Julian seem happy. If not sad that they don't get to see each other more. Brooke even writes marry me on the sand, but doesn't show it to Julian and the tide washes it away. After spending several phone calls trying to get in touch with him, she gives up. But Jamie gives her one of his birthday wishes and Julian shows up at the party. He tells her he quit the movie because he'd rather be in Tree Hill with the girl he loves.

Um, I think that's it. Lol.

Maybe I just don't like change. But it seems like a lot of things are different now. Yes, Nathan and Haley are still together, but it's the off season and he's not home that much. He's spending his time practicing and doing commercial shoots. I was actually concerned he wasn't gonna make it to Jamie's party. It seems like he gives Jamie a lot of 'things' since he's not around as much as he used to be. I'm happy that his career seems to be going well, but that's not the best thing about Nathan.

And Jamie feels different too. (The actor, not the character). I get he's a child actor, and they grow and learn and change rapidly, but he didn't feel like the Jamie we're known for so long.

Haley is still doing music and I guess also running RedBedroom Records in Peyton's absence. But she's having a hard time balancing her music and the label. But the bigger label (you know what I mean, but I don't know what it's called) said they are sending someone to help her. However, when she arrives she tells Haley she plans to shut down the label.

I didn't care much for the Skills and Mouth stuff. And Millicent was confident, I guess, but didn't really seem like her. (Minus the, don't tell Victoria I said that comment.)

And then we get to the end. Where Clay tells Nathan that the woman he took a selfie with at Jamie's party claimed he slept with her on the road and she's going public with it. I so don't want that to be true. Nathan already feels different. I don't want a whole cheating storyline.

Do people like this season? I'm nervous right now!

I really like this season! It is definitely something different though!

This season is definitely an adjustment but it's ultimately one of my favorites. The last three seasons are controversial... some people love it and some people hate it. I feel like each season is such a different vibe all the way from the beginning. S1 has a more soap opera vibe, with S2 I feel like they brought more comedy into the show and S3 has a different vibe than S4. S4 is kinda like a mystery thriller with the whole plot about figuring who killed Keith. And I feel like every season after has had a different vibe. As I was watching this show for the first time I just remember being happy with anything as long as I had Naley. There's a lot to love about Seasons 7-9 as long as you focus on the positives.

Heather

Haley's my fav and this was one of her best seasons imo, so I loved it. I feel like the 2nd half is stronger than the first. I didn't like a couple of the new characters, but I didn't care too much for Peyton or Lucas either. (Yes, they're gone. The actors didn't renew their contracts. Audience knew this before the start of the season) I didn't notice any change with Jamie, he was still great to me.

Amy

For me, Naley saves the last 3 seasons. Naley makes the show.

I didn't look at it that way. But now that you mention it, I can't unsee it! That said, 7X2 was so much better than ep 1.

BookBoundPodcast337

Yeah, I just watched 7X2 and paid attention to the credits; they weren't in them. I'm not sure if I would have preferred to know or not know. Lol. But Jamie was much better this episode. I don't know what was up with me last episode. 🤷‍♀️

S7 is one of my favorites. I think you will adjust pretty quickly, it is just figuring out what is going on now in their lives (like s5) but they are still the same people. It is genuinely the season I rewatch the most because it has some amazing storylines and some of the best character moments of the whole show. Nathan, Haley, and Brooke really get to shine this season and we see them all interact and have fun way more.

To me, season 7 is pretty enjoyable, don't like season 8 but a few nice moments and season 9 is good :D But yes all so different than the earlier seasons for sure.

They aren't in NY, Nathan and Haley just bought a bigger house in Tree Hill now that he has NBA money

I'm so sorry that you didn't love this episode and were very disappointed with it. I know that change can be hard, especially if you weren't expecting Lucas and Peyton to be gone, but first and foremost we still have Naley and Brooke continues to be an important component for the show, so once you get used to the new characters, and the flow, I have high hopes that you'll love S7 and beyond. Heck, I praised it enough for you, hehe, but it really is my favorite season, so just hang tight, and trust me, lol. There is a much more cohesive flow between all the characters and storylines now, and it's a refreshing change of pace from how isolated everybody was written during S6, especially Leyton. There was a reason for that, and I don't want to get into all the behind the scenes politicking that lead to it, and the reason that certain choices were made, but just know that the show felt that it needed a reset if it was to continue.....and I love the direction they ended up taking. They needed to do a time jump for a variety of reasons, but mainly because they needed to establish that Nathan is already firmly entrenched in the league, Haley's now focused on her music and running Red Bedroom Records, and yes Jamie is older, he's not that precocious preschooler of 4/5 anymore, lol, so while it might take some getting used to, Jamie will still be Naley's son that you'll love an adore, I promise. So, with the introduction of new characters and our core all in different phases of their lives now post S6, a jump ahead felt very appropriate to me. And that's so interesting to me that you felt like Naley and Jamie were different, because all I saw was how incredible this family still is, now living out their dreams together. Nathan has already accomplished what Dan couldn't, and that's becoming a pro basketball player without sacrificing his family to do so, and it's incredible to see, beautiful actually. I'm surprised that you didn't use one of the amazing Naley scenes as your thumbnail, lol. Not that I don't like Brooke and Julian too, because I do, but this is Naley we are talking about, hehe, and they are living their best life, so I thought that the family shot at Jamie's party, or Nathan massaging Haley's feet as they are lounging by their pool after the party, or Naley watching Jamie play football with Jerry Rice, any of those I thought would have rated pretty high for you, since it's been in the making for the entire duration of the show, lol. . I guess I just expected you to be gushing about them a lot more this episode, but hopefully that will come for you, hehe!!!! And real quick.... everybody is still living in Tree Hill, especially Naley. They are not in NY, lol. Quinn told Haley that she was on assignment in NY, and then decided to come see NHJ. Naley now have a huge new house in Tree Hill, as money is no longer an issue at all, since Nathan is a multi-million-dollar NBA player. And since it's the off season, Nathan is indeed at home with his family. He was practicing at a local gym in Tree Hill, and shooting his commercial in town as well, so he was doing that earlier in the day before Jamie's party. That's so funny that you thought he was out of town and might miss his son's birthday. No worries though...don't forget this is Nathan Scott we're talking about, hehe. Brooke has been in TH too, and Julian just comes back and forth to visit her in between his movie locations, and Millie is running C/B in NY, while Brooke is running the store in TH. Clay is Nathan's agent who represents all sorts of clients, not just basketball players, so that's why he's always working and rolling calls. He now lives in TH too....at the beach. I think you'll really start to warm up to Clay and Quinn if you give them a chance. They were brought in specifically for Naley and their family. Clay is not only Nathan's agent, but his best friend, and it's so refreshing to finally see Nathan have an adult friend and confidant that he trusts (their relationship is amazing), and Quinn was brought in for Haley, so the James family could become a focus as well, and it all works so well for the Scott Family!!! Naley finally gets the focus they deserve, and they don't disappoint in carrying the show...trust me, hehe!!!! I mean they always have...but finally they get the proper screen time to go along with the stories. P.S. Yes...Dan has a talk show now, that Jamie watches late at night when it airs, lol, and the stuff they do with Dan this season will blow you away, lol.....so stay tuned, lol!!!

Melissa

Dana...when you get the chance, go back and rewatch 7x01 for fun now that you know about the changes...and see if that doesn't indeed change your perspective on the episode a bit? As a Naley fan...I can tell you that it's one of my favorite episodes for them, and definitely one of my favorite premieres of the show. Everything just flowed so well together. I can't tell you how many times I've specifically watched it over the years, lol. I guess I just really love the settled and mature version of Naley, living out their dreams. The JL's shine in these roles playing an older Naley who have been married for almost a decade now (9 years) and have a 7 yr. old son. It's really a seamless transition for them, and some of James and Joy's best work together is still to come this season and beyond.

Melissa

You'll love them moving forward.... they're still the heart and soul of this show, the backbone of it no doubt!!!! Some of their best work is yet to come!!!!

Nebulous Shooter

This is me pretty much, but I am also aware that the few storylines/character(s) I like about 7 are stuff that not everyone will like until later down the line, if at all.
