"Film City" is the name of a real camp in Kosovo; it is in fact the main Multinational Headquarters camp located in the capitol of Prishtina. I'm not sure where the name comes from.

And if you want to go there, it is easiest to just drive a car, or as we call it, a "GMR". GMR stands for Ground Movement Request and it means the formal requesting of a regular car for ordinary transport. So this would be a civilian, commercial vehicle instead of, say, a HUMVEE.

The majority of these cars available for us are minivans or minivan-style crossovers. Minivans are handy and have decent carrying capacity, but most importantly, troops aren't likely to try hot-dogging or off-roading in a minivan.

They are the gold standard of lame.

And of course, as we all know, helicopter pilots always play "Fortunate Son" when they fly; either that or "Ride of the Valkyries". I think it is actually in their contracts.

So Captain Jackie "Pepperjack" Tracz has her mood spoiled when she is forced to set aside her Blackhawk for a distinctly uncool option for her trip to Film City.

Until next time!

I love the weird no-context names some military communities pick up. I feel like most of them were in-jokes that made sense to like 50 people once 10 years ago.
