My Hero Automata: Ch 98-100 (Patreon)

Whew. Wanted to have this out last night, but hadn't managed to get an editing pass done on it yet. This chunk adds another 8,100 words to Automata. Which, with the 7,000 from earlier in the month, puts us at a solid 16k+. Not bad, considering the extras I've also managed this month! Of course, there's still Displaced Hero to do yet, as well. But I actually think that will be easier to write than this was, despite the fact that I've never written land warfare before.

Anyway, these few chapters actually close out an Arc, of sorts. If a short one and one that's really part of a larger set of arcs. Still, no real cliffhangers or anything, at least ;-). I'm mostly happy with how it went. But I'll cover more on that in the author's notes, which I'll add as comments as I have been doing recently.

Chapter 99: A/N: So, I actually went to the effort of watching the entirety of MHA: Heroes Rising before I wrote this. Honestly? 3/5 at best. There was a lot of weird shit, like Chimera for some reason being able to pretend to be a Pokemon by hyper beaming everything. Which doesn't even remotely fit his Quirk. Then Nine was just...kinda bleh? Which is part of why I repurposed them the way I did here. I'd originally thought of them maybe having a serious conflict with Nine, since he'd already have Cell Activation and thus be quite dangerous. I was so 'meh' on him, though, that I ultimately decided to go with one of my alternate plans. Which was basically born of the idea that there's no way in hell All for One would let even a partial version of his Quirk run around without some sort of control mechanism in place. As a result, Nine is basically just a 'secure the island with a storm' puppet here. He would have been dangerous to actually fight, yes. But that's why they decided not to, you know, do that. Given Nine's previous MO as shown in the movie, he's got to have a mile high body count already anyway. So it wasn't exactly a stretch to give him the All for One treatment.

Chapter 100: A/N: First thing is first. YES, Shiggy is dead. He's kicked the bucket, shuffled off the mortal coil, turned into so much strawberry jam by what was essentially a meteor impact level hit straight to the face. Momo didn't get out of that entirely uninjured, as we'll see next time. But they are done with him. He's gone. If you thought the fight too easy, there are reasons he wasn't quite the end-game monster he became in canon: 1) The fight between him and the MLA never happened. As a result, Decay never awakened. Which was honestly one of the truly dangerous things he could do, erasing whole city blocks. They didn't need to deal with that particular bit of bullshit as a result of butterfly effects. 2) They caught him before he could get used to all his new power. He WAS at full power. But he only had his initial Quirk Load. I did, in fact, check what Quirks he had straight out of the pod and made sure he used pretty much all of them in the fighting. 3) They caught him with TWO near All Might level powerhouses, in the form of Izumi and Momo working together. Honestly, Momo is pretty much ACTUALLY All Might level at this point. She just doesn't have his raw experience. Izumi has less pure power, but a hell of a deep bag of tricks to pull from. Deeper even than Momo's in some ways. Less that Momo couldn't duplicate them (Creation is a heck of a drug), but because she doesn't have the additional processing power and multi-threaded thought that is 2B working in Tandem with Izumi. Even with all of their advantages, I did my best to depict this as not an easy fight. They ultimately won because Izumi pulled an ace from her back pocket that she'd been working on. One that I myself had to be told existed at one point :-p. It's a Pod ability that actually does exist in Nier: Automata. The Slow Time field is a little too powerful for casual use, though, so it's going to remain an extreme measure for Izumi pretty much indefinitely. Something that costs so much QE that she can't rely on it without major risk. Evasion, on the other hand, might see a bit more use as she perfects it. Much like the Berserk ability she's also still refining. The 'chip' moves from Automata are essentially Izumi's Super Moves in a lot of ways. Also of note...ding dong, the demon lord is dead. All for One's vestige went bye-bye with Shiggy. So, yep, he's legit just flat dead and not coming back now. No more backups or take backs. That said, they've still got plenty of large scale enemies who are honestly more interesting. Such as the still running-wild MLA and, of course, their extra-dimensional alien invaders. Seriously, I've always felt All for One ended being super underwhelming as a main villain, and treated him as such.

That's intentional. As is the references all being 'their.' It's showing 2B and Izumi went too deep linking with each other until their thoughts are too entangled to separate. I thought I'd made that pretty clear...but maybe not, I guess...

Love this!! Nicely done and looking forward to the future. Im honestly surprised that the government didn't go with the option of glassing the island completely. But given that they sent 2 all might level powerhouses it is the same thing. Hope they get the doctor Garaki as well. He really needs to be given the full on mind read via telepathy.

*sweatdrops* Glassing an island that still has a civilian population would be a bit much. Even if they were willing to just callously kill their own people that way, it wouldn't have worked with Nine's storm wall up. Trying to get munitions through hurricane force winds would be essentially impossible.

Master files update on this one, as well. Also, yes, that's what Penultimate means. Which was used correctly here. All for One was crippled in the pre-canon fight with All Might. Which was his next-to-last fight with All Might. The last one being the one where 2B sniped him to death while All Might was distracting him.
