Wohoo! This post marks the first of my various Fanfiction works to reach 100% completion. Ending at just over 114,000 words, Mass Effect: Final Error is now complete! A bit ironically, My Hero Automata is already longer than that. But it also gets updates that are twice the size that Mass Effect: Final Errors were ;-).

Regardless, the actual release is a bit smaller than I'd expected it to be (about 4,300 words). This is the result of the fact that, much to at least a few people's likely disappointment, there actually isn't a lemon included this time. I'd originally intended to include one, hence thinking it would be a bit longer, but nothing felt right. For as smut-heavy as Final Error was, it was still porn with PLOT. As in, it had/has an actual viable, comprehensive story that could/can be read without ever touching on the lemons if you wanted.

As a result of that, the epilogue is suitably emotional, and I found that a sex scene just...didn't end up feeling right. Which doesn't mean there's not some suggestive content. Just no outright sex. And I think I at least did a decent job of wrapping up the Reaper War and providing a decent Epilogue. It's a good way to close out the story, I feel. Besides, you lot at least got your need for sexy shenanigans satisfied a bit with My Hero Automata this month, anyway ;-).

As always, the release of the new content is attached here. I'm also just going to add the Complete file here as well. Though it will be added to the Master Files Pinned Post too! Enjoy!

Ok that very last bit... is that a tease for a possible spin-off/ sequel to this version/timeline's ME:Andromeda?

Keht Jelicho

Or, less likely, leaving an opening for whatever ME:4 may cover if/when it comes out?

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Well spotted! It was, in fact, at least a reference to ME:Andromeda :-p. Probably not a spin off from this particular fic, though, as Final Error never seemed to get very popular. Not even when it was still on Ao3. Add in the fact that most people hated Andromeda (I'm not one of them, I actually enjoyed the game a great deal), and I'm not sure creating more related to it would be an idea with much support. Which isn't to say I might not write something with Andromeda, someday ;-). For now, I'll probably confine my Mass Effect muse to Mass Effect: Eridium Dreams.

I felt that Andromeda had potential but was released incomplete and with not enough tie-in to the main games to make those invested in the main games to shift that investment to Andromeda. It just did not compare to the main games, and because it did not the fans who played it expecting more of the main games were disappointed. Plus there is the Quarian ark or whatever they were called that wasn't ready at launch and got planned to be released as DLC that gave it the appearance of the game not being finished on release.

Anyway, my point is that on the meta level the game had issues, but that could work towards your favor. Take those same issues as in-universe issues: the quarians were delayed long enough that the Reaper War was ended and because of that the existence of Andromeda efforts get revealed (was Oriana involved or did it happen beyond her knowledge, or was it a project she was intentionally not kept aware of similar to how she didn't know where all the hidden colonies were). This has Pandora Hopeswell becoming interested in the program (if it got pulled off well perhaps she could "retire" to Andromeda to get away from having to hide from the Council/etc once she becomes tired of sitting back/acting by proxy) and perhaps even (re)designs stuff to go along with the quarians/even encourages that the follow-on trip still happens as their supplies and the news of the reaper defeat would be immensely helpful to the ones who went before. Though there is the fact that with remnant reapers still existing those same reapers may hear of the project and some could decide themselves to make the journey to Andromeda and use it to build up before coming back.

Also, as an aside, Final Error is the reason I became a patron. I liked your stories enough, and the ME series, that I wanted to read it and couldn't find it any other way. Even your MHA stories are great reads and I am not much of a MHA fan (just never got into the story despite loving the world-setting) Though I admit I prefer Displaced over Hero Automata (never gotten around to playing any Automata games, and not read much of MHA so it's harder to get invested in than Displaced where I know lots of the lore on SW side at the least). But even the One Piece story started this month is fantastic and I have never even tried to follow the series before nor read any fanfics of it. Basically just wanted to say that I enjoy your fanfics, and that includes Final Error and that I am thankful for your continued writing of it and for its completion. It's been a fun read and I am enjoying imagining what happens next for them. (And if you ever do make an Andromeda fic, that I hope you consider having the big background change for said fic be that it is an Andromeda mission launched from the Final Error version of the story- even if Oriana/Sheppard/etc never play an actual role just having the Energy Shields and Grasers and etc tech that Oriana created/releasedwould help the Andromeda mission work out much better. Heck Oriana may even have made better stasis procedures (wait, did they ever find whats-his-name, the Promethean.. Jarvis? Whether living or not the stasis tech could have been interesting, if it wasn't already the basis for the tech in vanilla Andromeda), or if nothing else her medical stuff in her armor that saved her life if included in the stasis suits as a backup system may have kept more people alive on the Andromeda mission regardless of if her Energy shields would have prevented damage better than kinetic barriers upon the arrival to Andromeda.

Honestly, it could have used a bit more time to cook, yes. A symptom of the EA takeover around that time. As for the idea, that's not a bad one. In fact, since there were at least a few implications in Andromeda that Liara may have been one of their backers after becoming the Shadowbroker (or even before, as the T'soni heir), it's possible the entire project was delayed. After all, Liara didn't become the lynchpin in Final Error that she did in the main series. Given that every resource was pushed into the war effort by a Council that took the whole thing deadly seriously, the Andromeda Initiative may not have ever gotten off the ground...only to reach out to the explorer Pandora Hopeswell years after the Reaper War with the idea. It's not impossible to make the jump, I just don't know how much interest there would be. I might run an All Patrons poll next month to see if people want a 10-15K teaser of a possible sequel? I'll consider it at least.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I'm glad you enjoyed Final Error! And like the other stuff too ;-). I have to admit that I like the World Setting of MHA more than I do the actual story. There's a reason it's rapidly going off the canon rails, to the point that a lot of the later seasons just aren't going to happen. And altering the ages let me make some more mature characters too, which helps a lot. You're very right that Oriana's tech would drastically change how well the Andromeda mission went. I'd actually need to play through the game again (I've only done one Andromeda playthrough compared to several of the main ME Trilogy) to work out a lot of the changes. It's not just the weapons, either. In addition to the medical tech you mentioned...there's the VASTLY superior construction methods she designed. I didn't detail that part too much in Final Error, since I did fewer deep dives in general (because of how it started, the smut was more what the initial readers were there for. I'm just incapable of not writing actual story into my content ^_^), but one of the reasons they were able to build up to the extent they did was because of much greater automation. In order to pull that trick where she sent construction drones into the past to try building shipyards, she had to essentially create 100% automated construction processes. Applying that to the Andromeda Project would result in the Nexus being FAR more complete by the time anyone arrived. A lot of the reasons it wasn't were related, if I recall correctly, more to personnel issues and infighting than true lack of materials. If much of it was automated, possibly with a small Geth collective or other AI involved to correct for the unexpected problems, than Nexus would be far more complete by the time the Arks began arriving. Add in the Arks being well enough armed/shielded to fight off Kett attacks, and things would look pretty different from the start...
