and for info on british exams - gcses you study about 10 subjects from age 14-16 and sit the exams at 16 (british year 11, which is grade/year 10 in most other countries), and a levels you study 3-4 subjects at age 16-18 and sit exams at 18 (british year 13, which is grade/year 12 in most other countries). i think charlie, tao, and isaac are the year below the other characters, so they're just doing coursework for gcses at this point, but the other characters (nick, elle, tara and darcy, etc.) are all sitting their gcse exams.
