I genuinely love this show so much. On the topic of Marilla, you have to understand as well that Anne is going away to school at the end of the year, she's moving out. So I think all of this compounded and Marilla was already really scared of losing Anne in the expected course of events, and this all just made that worse. Marilla is actually one of my favorite characters in this show. As much as I love Matthew, he stays pretty much the same from episode 1 to the end, with Marilla there's a lot of character development. That said, I don't excuse all the racist things she says this season
