It's done! It has been a while since I really did a non-contemporary themed set so there were many things to learn on the go and put into practice! If you've seen my previous post here the experiments (and failures) speak for themselves :)

In the end, I wanted to challenge myself to create a variety of different compositions for the set, but without forgoing the character aspect too much, hence the portrait focus for the first 2 pieces, followed by something a little more environment heavy for the last 2. I'd love to explore the architecture more, but so far I'm still working on and boiling down good ideas and concepts.

I'll launch into making the process videos right away (while my thoughts are still fresh) so expect to see them very soon as well. But as always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my latest effort here!

Thank you as always for all your amazing support here on Patreon, it means the world ♥

This set gives me a sense of freedom and I can almost smell the fresh breeze through the screen, cant wait to watch the process and hear how you were able to capture this. Thank you for your hard work Guweiz.

This is stunning !! Taking your course on Coloso, I find it even more interesting to see the end result now that I understand better all the thoughts and process you put into it!!

Great stuff, thanks!

Les goooo! I almost forgot we were in for another treat this month. Mmmm...kinda have to disagree with the first 2 portraits, too safe n generic. But the last 2 are superb! amazing job

Seems like this is the start of a new series. 🌿❄️ As usual, nice balance between portraits and more surrounding action. I always loved close-up portrait and the one you're providing here is breathtaking. The lighting and the overall expression... ❤️ Does she have a name yet? 😆 Just out of curiosity, after saving the files, I see that these are 72 dpi, while illustrations for Bad Guys were 96 dpi. (I know it can be changed afterwards, but it also changes the image size while dimensions in pixel remain the same). Is there any reason for that?

Amazing viking girl! I love her red hair and the little freckle on her face is the finishing touch, thanks for the work and wish to see more of the giant church:)

guweiz

Thanks! It's a great color combo and I just have to try it with sunlight at least this once!

guweiz

Thank you for the kind words! I had a lot of fun adjusting the beach frame between all sorts of moods, finally settling on this one :)

guweiz

I'm glad you like it! The process can be pretty long and winding sometimes but it's also necessary to help consistently arrive at what you want.

guweiz

Thank you, and fair call! They definitely are on the safer side of things :)

guweiz

Thank you very much! You can definitely see me getting intimidated by the environments I've planned and retreating a little to the comfort of character illustration :) Here's hoping the course is of help to you!

guweiz

Hmm, perhaps a new character? No name yet though, and thank you! The dpi really doesn't mean anything, sometimes I just grab a canvas size preset without looking and it's not the usual 72dpi one!

guweiz

Thank you very much! The giant church was a little too difficult for me this time, but I will be back when I have better ideas :)

Kyp-chan

Let's see if the future brings more of her. 😁🤞 Well, 72 dpi is enough to display on screens, but if one want to print one illustration, for display purpose in a frame for example, turning resolution to 300 dpi obviously reduces the maximum allowed size. But I get your point. Thanks for your answer. 🙏

guweiz

True! Usually I'm too shortsighted to worry about dpi until it comes time to print! :)

I really like second and third pictures. Will be my new wallpaper for a while

The journey of a brand new adventure has begun. I really love the hair drawing techniques showcased in Part 2, and I would appreciate it if you could discuss it in the video. <3

Astonishing!! I comeback to patreon just in the moment I seen this one in your sociel media.

Solpath

Stunning. The red hair draws the focal point in very well. I really like looking at the textures in these pieces. The beach walk seems like you managed to do a lot with a little. I can’t wait to hear your break down. Do you think you would ever do a full short story? Like 20 panels. These cinematic illustrations always leave me wanting to know more about the character and the story behind the panels

guweiz

Thank you! I do discuss the main points I've found when trying to capture that specific beach scene in the video just up :) I have done a full short story before, with 24 scenes no less - If you scroll a couple years back (or look into artbook 2) there is a fantasy themed one you can take a look at!

Solpath

I will definitely read your short story. I got into art about that time with the goal to make stories like this and then got humbled how hard it is to produce a single panel. Your Coloso course has also been a huge help! And these break downs continue that understanding.

guweiz

Slowing building yourself up to the layers required to execute a narrative visually is very rewarding, but takes a lot of time too - don't give up! The results are only going to get better with more mileage :) I'm glad you're liking the course as well!
