Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a nice and comfy end of year holiday! I'm just checking in with the season's greetings and a little bit of a year recap, and my thoughts for the upcoming year :) Of course, for those who are more technically inclined, the video is also a real time painting process for about 55 minutes, so there's that too!

Do note that after I've finished the recap, the remaining process is not commentated though :P

As always, I'd love to hear what you all think and feel free to drop any questions or requests I've missed in the comments. Thank you all so much again for your support, and I'm looking forward to another year of doing this :)

love your painting videos. It would be great if they could be longer Whenever I lack inspiration for writing, I watch previous videos, which helps a lot😝

You've been such an inspiration and I hope you know how much we appreciate your work and you taking the time to do all these explanation videos and courses. I can't say thank you enough! I wish you a wonderful year 2025 and looking forward to more of your work!

Painting videos are always interesting! And that kind of informal vibe is especially fun :) This was an amazing year! I wish you the next one brings even more joy and projects you're excited to take! Regardless if they're personal or not, pursue what makes you happy :)

i love this video format, it seems almost like a podcast lol. speaking of, I always wanted to ask if you would do a video talking about your experiences in a professional setting and maybe even sharing some past professional works for game companies that you've done (assuming you're allowed to share them). but i never asked because i felt it just didn't fit the 'tutorial' vibe. I'm not sure exactly what the points of discussion would be for a video like that but i hope u consider <3 also happy new year!

happy new year ! Wish you all well and eager to see more works in the future!

It’s so, how do I put it, everything you are talking about hits so close to home. Your words resonate a lot. Back in the day, years ago, just like you and Kuvshinov I also wanted to keep my person/face a secret and only be that internet persona. In a way, just let the art speak for the name, but then I did my first artist alley booth experience at a con and saw people coming to my table cause they were genuine fans and wanted to meet/take pictures/buy something/talk…it blew my mind to ramble about my art, progresses, techniques and passion with other people in real life…in person, that’s crazy. That left a mark and when the moment was right I decided to show my face for the first time on social media. Anxiety was hitting hard but at the same time it also felt like I freed myself. I am sure if that time comes for you, you’ll probably feel the same. Same for the commercial work. Working on big projects can be so rewarding and exciting but at the same time there is this „guilt“ for not creating personal work or not having time to work on ideas that just come up randomly. It’s daunting and feels a lot like neglecting something and there is the thought that the people wonder what’s up, even it probably isn’t the case… I can only tell you that following your journey in 2024 has been incredibly exciting and I dearly wished I could have seen your exhibition in Japan. Throughout the year you brought many new things and it was interesting to see you develop your ip more and also do character design work. I feel like your world building also reached a new high, so I am already thrilled to see what you‘ll cook once you lock in and focus your personal work even more. All the best for 2025🙏🏻✨

Oh and also the things you were talking about with Coloso. Your concerns were the exact same reason for me why I didn’t come back to them after they asked me for a collaboration. As a self-taught artist I always feel like the foundation/fundamentals are lacking or that other people probably won’t be able to understand my way of doing things cause I „never learned it the right way“. Glad you overcame that obstacle though. I couldn’t, there is just too much trial and error before I reach a point where I am happy to show what I am cooking and not feel incredibly insecure about all of the issues still going on in the new piece. Live drawing would be the next final boss😄 That was a lot about me, but I am just relieved (please don’t take it the wrong way) that other artists go through similar problems/issues and found a way or just the energy to over come them. Keep it up Gu!

Thank you so so much for sharing your thoughts with me, I really appreciate it! I very much agree, things really feel real in a different dimension almost once you meet people as an artist :) I'm still pretty private on the internet just because that's who I am, but I'm definitely very much up for meeting more people in physical events in the future! I'm very glad to hear that you've found the right spot for yourself too! I think commercial work is a good way to broaden one's horizons, because it challenges you in different ways, even in the more "meta" sense of maintaining a positive outlook and optimism given time away from doing personal art. I will definitely work hard in the new year to bring even better works, so please look forward to it!! To be honest, I think the best mastery comes when you discover it by yourself, though trial and error. If your results speak for themselves, then the process is good. Of course we can all work towards further tuning it up, but at it's core, I don't think it's something to be ashamed about. Live drawing and teaching is pretty tough, I've done quite a few hours of it too, so it's definitely nerve wracking in terms of keeping pace. But if the chance arises, I think it's an excellent way to grow your own confidence! All the best in this new year too!!

guweiz

Oh that's the first time I thought about it that way! That could be fun to try in the future I think, not so much all the time, but once in a while :) That's for the suggestion too, that could definitely be a good video to do, since I think many of the artists in the audience are also maturing to the point of starting to take on their own professional work. I'm very much open to all kinds of discussions and video types, as long as you guys enjoy them! Happy new year to you too!

guweiz

Thank you! I get the feeling I'm always pretty informal here, but maybe subconsciously I just end up explaining drawing related stuff too seriously :) I will do my best this year, and I hope you will have a great one as well! Thank you again as always.

guweiz

Thank you so much, it means a lot to hear that!! I will do my best this year to deliver more good stuff as always. All the best to you as well!!

guweiz

Thank you!! Happy new year to you too! I'm glad you find the process part of the video helpful as well:)

guweiz

I'm delighted to hear that! That is definitely possible, I will try to work towards a good balance between short and long videos in the future, if I can manage it :)

Iga

Oh no, I didn't mean to imply that you are doing things too seriously! In my opinion, you're not, and your explanations are always insightful :) I like things the way you're creating them. Thank you for doing all that and sharing it with us!
