Hi!!!

For this months Patreon bonus ep, we discussed which Heartstopper characters were which Buffy characters and why. *Spoilers for Buffy and Angel. We literally didn't talk about this until we were on mic so we took different approaches to the assignment which made it really fun for us. We hope you enjoy! This is extremely difficult because of how differently Alice and Joss write characters. On the one hand, Alice starts with stereotypes and gives them three dimensionality and nuance (the bookworm, the jock, the nerd, the outgoing girl’s girl, the outgoing guy’s girl, the weirdo, the bully, etc). They have a lot of realism grounded in completely mundane teenage trials. On the other hand, Joss works with archetypes (the chosen one, the mentor, the druid, the fallen-pursuing-redemption, the mercenary, the healer). He gives them three dimensionality and hyper-vivid personalities that help them in their encounters with heightened and extreme teenage trials. Mapping characters one-to-one leaves lots of room for arguments about choices because some things fit while other traits are WAY off. That being said, I’m going to do some Angel rep and propose the following: Naomi- Lorne Felix- Dennis Harry- Lindsey Mr. Lange- the Oracles Both Lorne and Dennis end up being helpful and supportive in their limited ways. Lindsey is very much out for himself, with glimmers of humanity sprinkled in. The Oracles are generally inclined to goodness and life, but they can’t be bothered to be that invested in the mortal realm, yet still give solid guidance when push comes to shove.
