Hey Guys!

It's finally time for Carly and I  to jump into the world of James Bond!

I’m going to post a few polls over the next few months to help me decide which films to watch, since I won’t be watching all 25. With the help of some Bond enthusiasts this is how we are going to try it...

The first poll will cover the ‘official’ Sean Connery films, and we'll watch the top two poll winners.

After we finish watching them, we're going to watch “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” – the one and only George Lazenby film.

Next I’ll post a poll for the Roger Moore era.

After watching the top two films from that poll, we'll watch the two Timothy Dalton films, and then post a Pierce Brosnan poll.

Finally, we want to watch all 5 Daniel Craig movies. (Carly has seen them once)

14 movies total! It’s going to be a very interesting journey, and I am so excited, mostly because I know so many of you are excited about this character, and these films.

Remember, I will be watching only two films from this poll, so, vote accordingly!

P.S. There are some other James Bond movies that I am leaving out of these polls, since they are non-canon.

PSS: Loving the titles of the movies on this poll, so fun!

Update post coming in minutes!

Alex Gorell

Thunderball and Goldfinger for sure.

mikethemotormouth

Why is Daniel Craig the exception? 🤔

Peyton Royals

Finally! 😁 I LOVE 007! 🇬🇧

Brian O'Grady

My personal favorite is From Russia with Love. Close second is Goldfinger.

Tim Raths

What if there’s a three way tie between Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger? Then you’ll have to watch all three. 😅

N M

How thrilling

Gilbert Gonzalez

Woohoo! Love James Bond! Can’t wait! Heads up: “Diamond are forever” is sort of a direct sequel to “On her majesty’s secret service” as it picks up with Bond right after the events of that film.

Jerry Baird

I first saw "From Russia with Love" in 1963 while I was stationed in Spain. I loved the movie.

Thomas Boyette

So, you're going to watch fourteen Bond films, but only TWO will be Sean Connery films?????

Brian Lowery

Because, unlike the others, the Craig movies all follow a very particular overarching plotline.

M M

I agree with Tim - Goldfinger is a must. IMO From Russia with love is much better than Dr. No but it’s hard to skip the first movie in the series.

Gary David Holbrook

Hi Cassie/Carly, please know that these early James Bond films are nowhere near politically correct. Not even in the same universe. Goldfinger is the absolute best! There is only one James Bond/007, and that's Sean Connery.

nick bell

Sean Connery deserves 3.

James1035

I think this is the right choice. You get a good idea of each era of Bond and how each actor approached the role. I must say I’m not a Daniel Craig, but understand why you are watching all 5 of his movies. Any way I’m excited to see you get into this series.

Neill Shaughness

Can we vote to move one of the Pierce Brosnan selections to Sean Connery? You really only need to see Goldeneye from his run.

Stick Figure Studios

I am so happy. Even though you are not doing all of the Bond movies (which would be my preference), the fact that you are watching ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, both Timothy Dalton entries and all of the Daniel Craig entries (with a poll deciding two Connery, Moore and Brosnan titles) is the next best way to do it I think. I can't wait for your reactions to these movies. The Bond series is probably my all-time favorite franchise. This is going to be fun. My prediction for this poll: the two winners are going to be FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and GOLDFINGER... which is as it should be. Those are Connery's two best and if you're only going to watch two of his, those should be the ones. I wish you were doing three so you could also do DR. NO, but beggars can't be choosers.

Jack Fetter

Sean and Roger MADE this franchise! Pierce and Daniel got to ride it next (and yes, Daniel was really great), but I'd rather see you break it up a little more...

Uncle Phoenix

I voted for You Only Live Twice, because one of the Bond girls was Tsai Chin. Tsai Chin was one of the main characters in my favorite chick flick, which is also one the movies Cassie hasn’t seen, "The Joy Luck Club". "The Joy Luck Club" and "Eat Drink Man Woman" are two of my favorite movies of all time.

Neil Varma

You gotta see Goldfinger it’s the definitive James Bond Film. And I’d recommend also You only live twice

Krusty “Topher”

“With the help of some Bond enthusiasts this is how we are going to try it...” Hmm….Yeah ok.🤔🙄

Tim Raths

From Russia With Love is actually my favorite of the three.

Nerd Jared

You gotta do them start to finish!!! 🤣 or they wont make sense...ok no, you gotta do them by Bond actor or they dont make...ok none of them really make sense but they're all good 😂😂

Neil Varma

Also since you’re going to see on her majesty’s secret service diamonds are forever is the direct follow up to that. Fyi

Shawn Kildal

Voted for DR. NO & GOLDFINGER (of course) but I also believe DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is one of the best Bond movies as well. It won't have a chance though

Neil Varma

Yeah!! I’m excited for Cassie ! Plus this isn’t a franchise where u have to watch every single one to get it

Nerd Jared

Also, if were picking Connery ones From Russia with Love is my personal fav followed by Goldfinger

Jeremy Rickard

It’s a tough call but If it’s only 2 for Connery then it should be From Russia With Love and Goldfinger.

Dustin Nelson

I'd have said just see Goldeneye and Live and Let Die; it's a huge series and those were what I personally had recommended as Must -See entries. It's a cool series to see evolve, bet that'll be great for you to expand your horizons with

Steven Perez

My two favorite 007 Connery films are FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, the second because the two female leads, Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayashi, appeared in several Godzilla films that I watched as a child. The most skip-worthy film in the Connery years IMHO was DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.

WeekendWarrior88

Goldfinger is my favourite of Connery Bond, but I love them all (even Thunderball 😅) so doesn’t matter which one wins. I can’t wait😉

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Honestly George Lazenby is such a bad Bond and On Her Majesty's Secret Service was so bad in general that I would much rather you guys do three Brosnan's and skip Lazenby altogether but in the end that's totally up to you....and we all know I'll watch your reaction anyway 😂

John Cranberry

Thank God Goldfinger is winning. Can’t wait for Roger Moore. Live and Let Die or The man with the golden gun. 💋

Stick Figure Studios

GOLDFINGER is, as Ebert said, the time capsule Bond movie. It's when the series stopped being just good spy movies and became a genre all their own.

Ben Livingstone

I like From Russia with Love, because it seems to be the only "true" spy movie in the Bond franchise (that is, a movie focussed on secrets and information). Still, Goldfinger might be the best representation of the classic Bond story.

Patrick Egan

Goldfinger is a must, and while Dr. No is excellent I had to go with From Russia With Love as it's my all-time favorite "classic" Bond movie.

Alex Villarreal

Bracing myself for the Connery and Roger Moore reactions. 🙃

Jeff Webb

As long as it's not Thunderball....

Kyle Brandon Sanger

It would be a mistake in a canonical sense not to watch 'Dr. No'.

Nathan

Goldfinger is my number one, but I swim against the stream so Diamonds are Forever is my number two.

Jason Dolan

Dr. No and Goldfinger are the only two I really like - from russia with love is 3rd best. I'll be interested to see how they react to Connery's Bond who is very aggressive with his women. Roger Moore was much more of a ladies man Bond and suave vs Connery who is kind of brutal with women. So in my opinion it is best to enjoy Dr. No and Goldfinger and skip the rest.

Stick Figure Studios

I agree. That's why I wish she were doing three so she could watch that as well... but if she's only doing two, FRWL and GF are the best choices.

James1035

Also wanted to add that I would like a watch of Dr No regardless of how it does in the poll simply because it was the first one. Other than that no real complaints

Todzilla

I agree with you and Stick. Moore is my Bond, but my bro is older and when I told him about Cassie's poll, he's all about FRWL, I'm a GF fan.

Alexis Callagan

Gold finger is my favorite and goldeneye but goldeneye was my first one and played so many hours of the game that I can’t even count

Jason Dolan

Base on the way the poll is going I think they should watch Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger in that order before moving on to Roger Moore. My top Moore Bonds are The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only and then she can skip the rest of revisit later.

Lyle Morgan

I love Bond and I’ve seen them all, but let’s be honest: there are a lot of duds in the series. Some are just plain silly and campy in the extreme. Two per actor is a pretty great way to get a feel for the entirety of the series.

Jorge De La Torriente

I was practically raised up on Sean Connery's James Bond films. And it is the best one by far, meaning it has the most intriguing action/adventure as it also takes place in Japan. James Bond is in a helicopter battle that is amazing! And if you like or appreciate the Japanese ancient samurai sword fighting skill, you'll also love that part of the movie as well!

Rick Moreno

For the Connery era, "From Russia with Love" and "Goldfinger" are the two essentials. Cassie, if you do want to do some studying on the movies that you don't end up watching, let me know, I may have a resource for you to use for the Connery/Moore eras.

Anthony Vawser

A great pity that you’re excluding NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN; it’s great fun and I think you’d really like it.

Phil Stubblefield

Since you've already decided to watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service (a fine decision, by the way!), I suggest that you watch it in the correct chronological release order with respect to whichever Sean Connery films win the poll.

Shawn Kildal

I'm hoping for LIVE AND LET DIE especially for Cassie sake as she's a Jane Seymour fan

Matt Rose

The correct two films are winning. boy are you going to love young Sean Connery.

Shawn Kildal

It seems we already have an idea which Connery Bond movies Cassie will see. I have no clue which Moore movies my fellow Patreons will lean towards though. I'm leaning towards LIVE AND LET DIE and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME but am not sure. Kind of wish Cassie would do 3 Connery movies and just 1 Dalton movie but that's just a preference. I'll be happy however it goes.

Stick Figure Studios

My personal two votes would be SPY WHO LOVED ME and FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (with OCTOPUSSY as my third if she were doing three). I'm a huge Dalton fan, so I'm pleased she's doing both, but I do wish she were doing more Connerys.

Al Swearengen

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I always thought the Bond films up until Daniel Craig were kind of cartoonish. Were they meant to be a parody and silly or was it unintentional?

Brad P

Don't let any naysayers scare you off of On Her Majestys Secret Service. When Bond groups poll fans for their favorite films in the series, OHMSS usually finishes in the top three, sometimes even number one. Lazenby didn't have any acting experience when he took on the role and he's pretty rough around the edges. But he grows on you as the movie goes along and he brings a great physicality to the part. The movie always features one of the key moments in James Bond's life which, of course, won't be spoiled here.

Stick Figure Studios

They were intentionally that way (although not all of them were; many were very serious) and some were more cartoonish than others: the later Moore ones, for example, were very much so, but the two Dalton ones were not at all. They were more like the Craig entries.

Chris Davis

I voted for "Dr. No", even though I think that "From Russia with Love" is a better movie. Since it's the first one, I think it's better to see what audiences saw back in 1962 as this was the first movie of it kind.

Kevin C

Cassie, once you're done with the official Bond movies, I have a suggestion for you: The fan theory Bond movie: "The Rock"! Many people believe that Sean Connery in The Rock was playing James Bond. It's a great theory, and would be a great follow-up to the Bond movies in terms of fun, sometimes cheesy action.

Pacmule

I agree with you the Craig movies are the best. Before him they wrote the script to be over the top but it was different times

Gabriel L.

This sounds like it's just about the perfect plan to watch the Bond series. Watching all of them would be both a huge number of movies, and the series has some real duds. Two per actor is a fair shake at getting both some of the best movies in the series as well as a good representation of each actor's take. I have to admit though, choosing between Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, and Goldfinger isn't possible for me! I checked all three (I am fine with skipping the other Connery flicks). If I had to choose though, Goldfinger (absolute must-see) + You Only Live Twice (a better movie than Dr. No, although Dr. No is admittedly important for being the first).

Larry Darrell

Christopher Nolan's, Inception (2010), was influenced by On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Shawn Kildal

Let's say FRWL wins second place, should Cassie watch Goldfinger first because it finished with the most votes or should she watch the Bond movie winners in release order? I lean towards release order, but that's just my take.

Brad P

Yes, definitely. Both Nolan and Steven Soderbergh, among other filmmakers, have said that OHMSS is their favorite Bond movie.

Gábor Árki

That is some bittersweet news. It's finally happening, but only two from Connery means at least one of my three favorite Bond movies from him won't be getting a reaction for sure: 1. Dr. No (1962): the first one that started it all. More like a detective story than a spy movie, but a great introduction to the character with some really amazing and memorable scenes, like that first, teasing reveal of "Bond. James Bond". And of course, a 32 years old Sean Connery very much in his prime. 2. From Russia with Love (1963): a great, classic, and more grounded espionage story and one of the best Bond movies ever made. Also, one of the very best Bond adversaries. My personal favorite of the classic era. 3. Goldfinger (1964): the de-facto archetype of every Bond movie to follow with all the Bond tropes getting in place. After long consideration, I think I will go with From Russia with Love and Goldfinger. The latter is the de-facto archetype after all, but I'm not convinced it is the right movie to start with. The prior one, being a somewhat more serious movie, seems to be a better choice for a first-time exposure to classic Bond movies. Sad to say goodbye to Dr No though. But I'm really happy to learn about the rest of the plan. - Lazenby: my least favorite Bond, but I'm on the side this movie should be included, as it is an important evolutionary step in the character. - Moore: I'm perfectly happy with just two entries from him. I do hope The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and For Your Eyes Only (1981) will be the two. - Dalton: really happy here with your decision to include both. I do consider them to be among my favorites and would be really hard to pick just one of the two. - Brosnan: two seems a fine choice here too. I would be happy with just GoldenEye (1995), but Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) is a good one too. - Craig: due to the overarching story anything more than Casino Royale, and maybe Skyfall, won't work their own so I think it is a good call and a necessity to watch them all if you're planning to watch more than Casino Royale. Cassie, a few things you should be aware of: - The Bond movies are very much a product of their time in every sense extending to all aspects of the films: story, characters, acting, stunts, and special effects. For me, one of the appeals of this franchise is the journey throughout 60 years of filmmaking and how both the character, the storytelling, and the filmmaking techniques evolved over time. So best to let go of all expectations you might have from modern spy movies, the MI franchise, and even any knowledge you have about contemporary Bond movies. - Connery's movies do have some slight continuity. The movies have their independent stories, but share an overall context and continuity, although not that much that would significantly impact viewer experience if few are missed out. Because of that, I recommend watching the winners in their release order. - The Moore/Dalton/Brosnan movies are completely standalone stories, but they do reference a few things from some previous movies. But based on the plan and the current state of the vote you will watch the movies needed for this.

Bryan Fritchie

Really need to watch those top three.

Mike LL

Of course it is release order. Anyone who watched in any other order must belong to SPECTRE!

Mike LL

I'm editing my original comment because I worded it poorly.. I don't think that being first is a good enough reason to watch Dr. No. The correct two films (FRWL and GF) are winning.

Drew

The top three are the best. My favorite Bond is Dalton, but IMO the best Bond film is Casino Royale.

Jens Pouplier

Fun fact, they did a Bond marathon at our local movie theater back in 1999: all 18 movies (at the time) in 72 hours, with 10 min breaks apart from two one hour breaks to eat and wash up. I only slept 10 minutes through the whole thing (during man with the golden gun)

James UK

It’s a shame to miss out on Dr No and Thunderball but From Russia With Love and Goldfinger are the two films to watch here.

Gábor Árki

Release order for sure. Also, I think the more serious From Russia is a better first exposure to Bond than Goldfinger.

Al Swearengen

I'll have to check the Dalton ones out. I love the grittiness and angst of Craig's depiction.

Björn Karlsson

Hmm..... 🤔😊 I think you are danish??? How bout help a crazy swede? 😏😵‍💫🤣

Drew

I'm a Bond fan, and I approve this message.

Drew

IMO, Dalton was closer to Ian Fleming's depiction of Bond than the previous ones. License to Kill was surprisingly violent for a 007 movie.

Stick Figure Studios

(Except the part about TOMORROW NEVER DIES. Switch that with WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and I'm 100% behind this comment.)

Stick Figure Studios

That's the great thing about this series. It has changed so much over the decades that there's something for everyone: whether you like dark, gritty and angsty or whether you like bright, witty and fun. I loved Craig's more serious interpretation, but after a while it just became too heavy and dour. I'm ready for a return to a more traditional, more humorous Bond now.

Richard Bourne

Just look at these comments. The passion for Bond is huge. Goldfinger was the first Bond which had the formula and main theme which was bigger than life, gadgets, the introduction of Q, Aston Martin DB-5, the Bond girls, the mini-mission opening, and the music including a theme song we have come to expect since. After that, I really think Dr. No started it all and is worthseeing, but Thunderball was the biggest and most financially successful on the list.

Art of Free Speech

I do not get the desire to watch the Daniel Craig films, which, IMO, are FAR FAR inferior, to the original Bond films with Connery and Moore. IMO, it's like watching Velma over the the original Scooby Doo.

Dazman

Would be a shame to miss Dr No as the starting point. Maybe Cassie could at least watch the famous casino introduction and the first meeting with M on YouTube.

Julian Corbett

Kind of agree that Cassie should watch "Dr No" as the one that started it all. The first Bond movie is closer to the books character as a ruthless agent "That's a Smith & Wesson and you've had your six" which the later movies moved away from, especially during the RM era (the weakest Bonds of all IMHO). Plus the original "Bond....James Bond" :D

Anthony Vawser

Yes, thank you, Björn, I did indeed; apologies for not responding at the time. I’ve been aware of that set for a while now and have decided that I’m probably content with my DVD.

Mike LL

All the posts about Dr. No miss this point. If Dr. No was one of the two best of Connery's movies, I would agree to a watch, since it is the first. Dr. No was the very best James Bond film when it was made. But it lost that status with the release of FRWL. So if a choice of only two movies is available, it only makes sense for the two best films to win, as they are currently. All are stand alone movies anyway. FRWL is a great introduction to Bond. And it, along with GF are the two essential Connery Bonds. It is important that Cassie watch a really good Bond film for her first one. This poll will ensure that. Edit: After a second reading of all the posts here, I have to acknowledge the possibillty that Cassie could be persuaded, just by these post,s to alter her Connery plans. If that is the case, all will be good.

John Cranberry

Cheers mate. I have always love RM over Connery. Both are amazing though. As for the rest, don't really care. I really hate the modern Bond films and don't rate Craig at all. I only watch the classics, over and over on Blu-ray!

John Cranberry

DEAR CASSIE: MAKE IT THE TOP 3 OTHERWISE YOU WILL MISS OUT ON A COUPLE OF GREAT FILMS BY CONNERY AND MOORE.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Hi Cassie, when forced to pick only two of Sean Connery`s Bond films, I choose Goldfinger for so many reasons & Thunderball as IMO, it has the best depiction of fighting in it`s particular element. :)

Nismo

@Stick Figure Studios It's a shame he only made two. I've read story treatments about a 1991 film taking place in Japan/Asia and also that Goldeneye was supposed to star Dalton originally. Brosan was great but those two sound really interesting!

Jack Fetter

I wasn't forgetting them and to be fair, Lazenby wasn't bad at all IMO...

Miles E Coburn

Start at the first one and work your way through the rest.

Gábor Árki

It is a shame. I do like his take on the role and the more gritty, grounded direction they went with. But Dalton wasn't too lucky in this aspect. He was selected to be the next Bond prior to The Living Daylights, more than once if rumors are true. First to take over from Connery after You Only Live Twice, then again after Diamonds Are Forever, but he declined feeling too young for the role. He was also offered the role after Moonraker and was ready to sign this time. It would have certainly been interesting to see him take over from Moore and become the Bond of the '80s, but eventually Moore signed up for three more movies so this didn't happen. Then after Licence to Kill his third movie in development was halted for years due to some legal issues surrounding the international distribution and eventually his 3 movie contract expired. Tired of waiting he decided to quit for good. But shortly after his exit the legal issues resolved and pre-production for the next installment continued.

Elliot Nesterman

I always suggest starting with "Dr. No." My favorite is "From Russia with Love" because it is the one that is closest to the book and the one that is a proper espionage film rather than a super spy movie. I've read that it was also Albert Broccoli's favorite (He was the producer of the franchise).

Pickupthepieces76

If you watch 14 out of the 25, that is already a huge chunk. I suppose that when it is finished and you like the franchise, you might as well watch the remaining movies, maybe over a longer period of time, so it doesn't impact as much.

Mike LL

President John F Kennedy once said From Russia With Love was his favorite novel.

Mike LL

Since it will take a long time to watch 14 movies, and you should take your time and not rush through them, please consider starting the Star Trek movies before too long. Didn't the Rocky/Creed Mission: Impossible watches overlap a little? We promise to not give you <b>too</b> much homework beforehand. :p 😜

Tej Shah

OHMSS is my favourite Bond film ;) I think it's now regarded as one of the best.

Tej Shah

I agree: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, and Goldfinger should all be watched.

Björn Karlsson

Hehe Np np 😁😁 but the new version looks really good, I've been able to stream it. This improved version is from 2017. Btw... SML is now on topp 300 🤩🤩🤩😄😄😄

Krusty “Topher”

Agreed! Does it really matter if the other movies shes watching during the same time frame are stand alone movies or part of a franchise??? Shouldn’t. All just movies….that need Reactions. Takes up same amount of time 🤷‍♂️

Matt D

Those are all crap. Haha

Bill Maurer

I know the two that are going to win it. But Thunderball should be added as well. Claudine Auger as Domino is one of the best and most underrated Bond girls ever. Add in the villains Largo and Fiona, all of which were included in Austin Powers series

Jennifer Medicus

If Cassie were watching all of the movies then yes absolutely start with Dr. No and watch in order (Blind Wave has kind of started the journey). If however, you can only get 2 (two!!) Connery movies then Dr. No is not one of the best. It establishes a lot but it doesn't actually have a lot of the vibe that the films develop. I watch all of the Connery films over and over but the kid in me loved You Only Live Twice (we'll not talk about the racial issues) for the absolute gadgetry in there - I feel like it's really the basis for The Incredibles. The red-head in me always goes for Thunderball - Luciana Paluzzi is one of my favorites.

Wes Stewart

Recency bias probably plays a part, he’s the modern latest Bond, it’s easier to connect with the contemporary and the familiar.

Wes Stewart

Dr. No has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, only From Russia With Love and Goldfinger rank higher. But I agree that if you’re only going to pick two then there’s two stronger Connery-era films than Dr. No. Still a great film even if it hasn’t established all the familiar tropes.

Richard Maurer

The two Moore films have to be Golden Gun and LaLD, but GG over everything else, just because of the great Christopher Lee.

Jennifer Medicus

Yeah, it's hard. There are things I really like about Dr. No but not sure I'd rate it that high. The best thing about Goldfinger are Goldfinger and Honor Blackman. It definitely has the iconic moments. And the line I probably quote the most whenever somebody asks me what I expect. From Russia With Love does give us Robert Shaw - Cassie's seen him in Jaws and The Sting. Wonder if she'd recognize him.

Richard Maurer

The later Moore films were pretty campy - bad. Octopussy and Moonraker specifically.

Richard Maurer

Really should be three films, at the very least for Connery and Moore.

Matt Rose

TB is great and it has one of the better plots of the entire franchise. Largo is also one of the best villains. My only real issue with TB is with the overlong underwater battle at the end of the film...everything else is pretty great.

Matt Rose

DR. NO only has a few issues: - budget. As the first film in the franchise, the lower budget shines through on a lot of the production design elements. The 'dragon' is laughable and the nuclear reactor in No's lair is questionable. - pacing. It's a bit too slow. Apart from those issues, it's absolutely first rate. Connery is a fully formed Bond right from his introductory scene, the film has many absolutely iconic moments in it ('you've had your six', Ursula Andress on Crab Key, etc). I just think that FRWL builds upon the elements that DN sets up and delivers a much, much better film in every way.

MertzRocks

Well, just thinking about which ones Cassie and Carly should like best, I went with Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever. When the Moore poll comes 'round, it'll be Live and Let Die and The Man With the Golden Gun. After Roger's day, I could care less about 007... Imho, the final Connery and the first Moore are the two best Bond movies made. Maybe I should say the MOST FUN!

Mike LL

If we are going to move selections it should be to skip a Dalton and add it to Connery's total.

Wes Stewart

Definitely agree with the issues mentioned, and not forgetting the “fetch my shoes” line 😬😬

Bill Maurer

Yeah, they could've shorten it. But the rest of the movie is great and to its credit , I do not think there was ever and underwater sequence of that style and numbers before TB. Still a big fan of Domino and Fiona.

Neill Shaughness

While I don't love Dalton's movies, I do really like his take on Bond and think it should be seen.

Stick Figure Studios

Interestingly, the late Connery through early Moore period is probably my least favorite of the whole series (with MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN bring the absolute nadir of the franchise). Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Mike LL

You might want to prepare yourselves for a Spy Who Loved Me slam dunk on the Moore poll. Just saying.

Stick Figure Studios

They actually did approach him to do one more after they resolved the legal issues, but he felt it had just been too long. That's when they went back to Brosnan. I would like to have seen him do a third, but I'm ultimately fine with the way it went all went down.

Stick Figure Studios

Personally, I think Lazenby was the weakest Bond of all. Moore was a delight and could still kill in cold blood when he needed to.

Mike LL

Yes, so happy we are getting a watch of OHMSS. Essential.

MertzRocks

I DID say imho... I prefer the campiness (FUN!) of those choices. Same reason I like the original Star Trek series over all other ST series combined.

Mike LL

This is an overall excellent post. Especially about letting go of all expectations.

Michael John McDaniel

I would watch them in order as you will get the full background for 007

Stick Figure Studios

The last 10 minutes don't mean much without the preceding 2 hours. At any rate, OHMSS is generally considered one of the best Bond movies and she's already said she's watching it, so kind of pointless to suggest otherwise.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, what Mike said. TSWLM is definitely going to be one of the Moore winners. My other vote would be for FYEO, but you never know. LALD or TMWTGG might take it. Personally, I hope not. Those are among my least favorite Bond films.

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

I hope "Dr. No" also wins. "From Russia with Love" is a fantastic entry in the series, but "Dr. No" is a historic movie and shouldn't be missed. Fingers crossed.

Stick Figure Studios

I'm all in favor of her adding DR. NO to her schedule, but I don't want her to have to take away a title from somewhere else to do so. I say just make it 15 movies instead of 14.

Colin Reid

A lot of people won’t admit it, but a lot of the early bonds are fairly bad films, some dubious choices when it comes to “Chinese-ing up” and some sex scenes that are questionable to say the least. I would suggest starting with, and ending with, the Daniel Craig Bonds.

KauaiKeith

So glad you will watch all 5 Daniel Craig movies. I’ve seen all 25 and his are by far the best. Roger Moore was my Bond growing up but Craig takes it to another level!

Robbie

I don’t enjoy the Bond films

Mannygogou

okay let me think, which one has the best theme song...

Matt Mabry

I am glad you are watching the Daniel Craig era, et al. For me, Casino Royale is perhaps Craigs best, but of course Skyfall running a very close second.

Richard Maurer

I love this kind of comment. At least say why you don't like them. But as is the only response to this kind of comment is 'okay, good for you'.

Stick Figure Studios

A lot of people won't admit it because it's wrong. Bond movies have always been spectacular entertainment. Naturally some are better than others and they may not align with contemporary sensibilities (they are a product of their time... as is everything), but still highly enjoyable. Craig's era is mostly good (though he has a couple clunkers himself) but to suggest the Bond series starts and ends with him is ludicrous.

Richard Maurer

I admit I might be biased because of my admiration of Chris Lee but I've always liked this film because the villain wasn't just another "I have a plan to rule the world/get obscenely rich" type. I found it to be a refreshing change of pace.

Stick Figure Studios

I guess if one doesn't enjoy camp at all then yes, most of Moore's tenure would probably rub them the wrong way, but if one is open to that kind of more lighthearted riff on the material that doesn't take itself so damn seriously (Moore leaned into the absurdity of the character and played it more as ironic comedy), then they can be very enjoyable. They're certainly not all "duds" ("camp" does not automatically equal "bad"). MOONRAKER, for example, is still a very entertaining film with much to like (the spectacular pre-title teaser, the chilling death of a particular character, the delightfully droll main villain, John Barry's reliably epic music score, etc). OCTOPUSSY as well has an honest-to-God old-fashioned spy plot (which I noticed recently was co-opted by the third season of JACK RYAN on Prime) and some genuinely suspenseful set pieces. Whenever someone badmouths OCTOPUSSY, I tend to assume they just haven't seen it in a while.

Larry Darrell

3. Shirley Bassey - “Diamonds Are Forever” 2. Carly Simon - “Nobody Does it Better” 1. Louis Armstrong - “We Have All the Time in the World”

Stick Figure Studios

@Richard - "Live and Let Die" rocks. Very sporting of McCartney to provide Bond with such a kick-ass song after he insulted The Beatles in GOLDFINGER. :-)

Larry Darrell

1 through 16 are the REAL James Bond films, in my opinion. Everything after are Remakes & Re-Starts. They’re still Good & Great, but Not the Original James Bond, which is the Best Bond.

Brad P

To be fair, those dubious choices are problems with a lot of American and British movies of that era and earlier. And there are far worse examples than Bond, notably Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's which came out just a year before Dr. No.

Jesus F Christ

Lobbying now for The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only as the Roger Moore choices. They have the least amount of dated cultural references and jokes and are always rated among Roger Moore's best Bond outings.

Cheryl Sailer

The only not worth watching is Craig’s no time to try

Orcagirl78

Dr. No. Definitely need to start at the beginning

Mingo Wayama

Fortunately, I don't care a whole lot about this poll (voting for FRWL, but I'm O.K. with Dr. No). But honestly, these polls often have me wishing that Steve Kornacki were around to tell me where the late votes are coming from!

Marty McGee

Jennifer Medicus that line from Goldfinger is definitely iconic and one of my favorite movie quotes ever! From Russia With Love is one of my top 5 Bond movies because of its intricate plot. Dr. No I have very little memory of. (I've only seen it once) I do remember the guy from Hawaii 5-0 being in it and of course Ursula Andress!

Marty McGee

Agreed! A View To A Kill is bordering on only being watchable for the camp alone.

Marty McGee

The Daniel Craig era is almost it's own contained story. You kind of need to watch all of them to understand them all.

Marty McGee

The Pierce Brosnan era was strange. I remember he was everyone's choice to take over after Roger Moore, but due to contract obligations they couldn't make it work. By the time he got to it, I almost feel like he had aged out of it or just didn't have the right vibe anymore. This was also the time they started trying to curb some of the misogyny that had been present since the beginning of the Bond series. Pierce just had that playboy look and style which was at odds with trying to make Bond less problematic. Aside from Goldeneye, which was fantastic in my opinion, the rest were forgettable for me.

Marty McGee

I agree Lazenby was not a great Bond, but it's still one of my favorite Bond movies.

Marty McGee

Yeah, Live and Let Die for sure. My 2nd favorite is Tina Turner's Goldeneye.

Stick Figure Studios

They're all worth watching, but I think both QUANTUM OF SOLACE and SPECTRE are worse than NO TIME TO DIE.

Stick Figure Studios

Interestingly, I think it's the opposite. I think Pierce would have been too young, not quite world-weary enough when he was first considered (he himself has said he wouldn't have been ready). It took a few more years and some more life experiences (like, sadly, his own wife dying) which helped him fit the role better. Yes, his movies' quality waxed and waned but GOLDENEYE was great (and I happen to really like WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH too), but Pierce was always good.

zynjams

Robert Shaw from jaws and the Sting is in from Russia with Love, so I know Cassie will like that one

Marty McGee

I do remember The World Is Not Enough being good as well. It had one of the best Bond girls in Sophie Marceau. And also one of the worst in Denise Richards.

Duane A Lavely

The first 4 Bond movies I saw in high school. Had a date and drove downtown to the theater. The 5th, "You Only Live Twice", I watched sitting on a bench in the sand at the outdoor theater in S. Viet.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, Brosnan has a weird run of movies there for a while where he had one great Bond girl (Michelle Yeoh, Sophie Marceau, Rosamund Pike) and one bad Bond girl (Teri Hatcher, Denise Richards, Halle Berry).

Richard Maurer

Okay, so the only neutral response is 'okay, good for you'. As for smartass responses, that's a different story ;-)

Richard Maurer

@ Stick Figure Studios - No offense but I really can't understand how someone could prefer Moonraker or Octopussy over any of Moores' other Bond films. I know a lot of critics hate on LaLD and TMWtGG for some reason, but campiness of Moonraker and Octopussy reminds me of Adam West's Batman series. I can forgive a lot but over-the-top camp is a no go for me.

Richard Maurer

The voting on the Moore poll will be interesting for sure. One of the main reasons I support Cassie watching 3 of each Bond actor is because I think TMWtGG will ha better chance, though I'm not holding my breath.

Larry Darrell

There is a name that every James Bond fan should know, Richard Maibaum (1909 - 1991). He wrote the Screenplays for 13 out of 16 James Bond films, from Dr. No to License to Kill. Anyone that is saying the Original James Bond Films are not connected, should know this. Sean Connery's James Bond through Timothy Dalton's James Bond is the SAME James Bond. Just because each film doesn't regularly mention things that happened in past films, or there isn't always a story that runs from film to film, or because the Actor playing James Bond changes, doesn't mean they are not connected. The same Man wrote nearly all of the first 16 films. Pair that with most of the 16 films drawing their plot points from the same author's works, Ian Fleming. Then add in the Producers, Albert Broccolli & Harry Saltzman, who were Hands on Producers from Dr. No to License to Kill. Now you have a World that is created and All of the characters and stories from each of the 16 movies all exist in this world. Richard Maibaum, all other writers who contributed, the Producers and their entire Creative Team (Many of whom worked on all or most of the movies) knew what had come before when they were making a new James Bond film. Everyone knew the Story and Film History of James Bond as they were making each film. They created Stories and Films that worked on their own, but when they wanted to, they would pull from the History for some plot points, large and small, in order to round out the film and remind you that you are watching the same James Bond from 10 or more years ago. Each new film was not "start from scratch and forget everything." There was a Foundation that They built each new film on. Much like a puzzle, each building block may look different in size or shape or color, but there is still a connecting side or angle that makes All the Pieces fit together to create a Whole Picture. Dr. No to License to Kill. 1962 to 1989. 16 Films in 27 Years. Only once exceeding 1 to 2 Years between films, and that one gap was 3 Years. Stand back and look at it. That's One Hell of a Big Beautiful Picture. You don't even notice those gaps or puzzle lines.

Richard Maurer

I guess wanting the people of today to stop judging the films of the past by today's standards is too much to ask. I know it's tough to imagine, but the people of past just didn't see things the way you do. And I'm not excusing it either (even if it sounds like I am), but the people of the past literally did not think the now obvious racism, sexism, and homophobia of their times were even a consideration. I'm sorry but canceling the art of past for not having the same morality as we have now just doesn't make sense.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, for the second girl it seemed like they just said "Who's popular in the US right now?" and then just hired her.

Stick Figure Studios

Not only that, but Pierce Brosnan is even supposed to be the same Bond that Connery, Moore, Lazenby and Dalton all were (though Maibaum didn't write any of his movies). Craig was the first actor to launch a new continuity. Thank you so much for saying all this. It absolutely bears remembering.

Stick Figure Studios

Hard to forget Ursula Andreas. What an entrance. If that's all you remember, though, you should watch it again as there's much more in it like *POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD* Bond's iconic onscreen introduction, Bond's first killing of a man in cold blood, Bond tangling with a tarantula, Bond meeting Felix Leiter and more. *END OF SPOILERS* I like DR. NO a lot. I watched it recently for the first time in a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's smaller and slower than the average Bond film (though at the time it was considered fast and spectacular), but it focuses more on things like mood, setting and on Bond as a character. It's almost more like a film noir mystery with Bond as the detective. Definitely worth watching.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, not being so allergic to camp is helpful in being able to appreciate Moore's later films. Personally, I think way too many franchises take themselves too damn seriously nowadays anyway and mistake "darkness" or "grit" for being "mature" or "sophisticated." As for me, I love the Adam West Batman show and I love Moore's campier Bonds. His earlier attempts at more "serious" Bond stories just don't work. They're awkward, clumsy, disjointed abd Moore looks uncomfortable in them. Moore was not Connery and the more they tried to make him like Connery, the worse he came off. Moore's niche was a more lighthearted, goofier interpretation which he was brilliant at and audiences loved him for it. Give me the joyous spectacle and ironic wit of TWSLM, OP or yes, even MR over the duller, more dreary, more schizophrenic and cheap-looking messes that are LALD or TMWTGG any day.

Jim Williams

If we're going to include Craig as a James Bond, then we need to include Peter Sellers.

Jim Williams

Frankly, my favorite James Bond-style movies since Sean Connery is Bruce Willis in the "R.E.D." and "R.E.D. 2" films (a shame there won't be a 3rd one). I hope when you're done with the Bond movies you watch the R.E.D. movies as a palate cleanser.

Richard Maurer

I actually enjoyed Adam West's Batman - strictly as comedy. But even in that enjoyment there was always this thought in the back of my mind - "this isn't really Batman, not as he should be". And I feel the similarly about Bond in Moonraker and Octopussy. And it's funny that you say that these franchises take themselves too seriously, as I've always felt they don't take them seriously enough, certainly with Batman, until the Nolan version, and with Bond too. With superheroes (and super spies) it's best if you're all in with the characters, otherwise the whole idea becomes a joke. The MCU handles this pretty well, taking the heroes seriously while the humour happens around them, but not making the hero the butt of the joke. The only real failures to do this for the MCU are the last two Thor movies, especially the last one, which turned Thor from a hero to a moronic buffoon.

Matthew Zoeller

I must say limiting yourself to 2 is a HUGE MISTAKE! Why limits? Are you closing down the channel soon? Do you have some sort of unlimited content coming up instead? BIG MISTAKE!!!

Harald Mahr

Hard, real hard. I am surprised "You Only Live Twice" does not do better. Goldfinger might be the best with the strongest villain, but for me Dr. No has the most unique flavour. The three blind mice intro sets the tone perfectly.

Harald Mahr

As for Craig as Bond, I dont know. For me they were too dark, too much jason bourne. Bond as a broken hero didnt work for me. But each Bond has ists style.

Harald Mahr

And if you have to constrain yorself to just some movies, giving connery and moore a third one each and cutting others might be worth a thought.

Mr Trick

Technically you don’t need to see Dr. No first since it exists on it’s own, like most of the early Bond movies, but watching things out of order would be very hard for me. From Russia with Love is undoubtedly the better movie, but Dr. No might be the easier movie for entry.

James1035

I’m going to disagree with you on that. Definitely not the best movies or the best Bond

Harald Mahr

Yes, thats a good point. And Dr. No has the iconic James Bond reveal in the casino, so, would be a good start.

Dryfesands

I'd say start with Doctor No, it's nowhere near as good as From Russia with Love but it's the best onboarding point.

Stick Figure Studios

She's not constraining herself to a certain amount. She just doesn't feel like watching every single one at this point. 14 isn't an arbitrary number. It's the natural consequence of wanting to do two of each actor along with the one Lazenby and all the Craigs. She could just as easily do 15 or 16. No need to take away from anyone else.

David Collins

Cassie, you can't skip that many Sean Connery Bond movies and be in the Bond club. I mean you just can't. Sean Connery is the only reallyo trulyo James Bond. Dr. No is a must, because the others won't be as fun if you miss it. It would be like skipping Die Hard 1. Sacrilege. Can't be done. But you can't skip Goldfinger or FRWL because they're easily the two best Bond movies. Gotta watch all three at the minimum. And I'd also argue that You Only Live Twice is the most underrated of all the Bond films. Check out Rotten Tomatoes ranking of all 27 Bond movies. This should make clear that I speak the truth. :)

Stick Figure Studios

I'm not saying these stories shouldn't take themselves seriously. I'm saying they shouldn't take themselves TOO seriously. These are not Shakespearean tragedies. They can be fun as well. Roger Moore Bond movies are fun. Adam West's Batman is fun and they represented the Batman comics of the time. Whether that's how Batman "should/shouldn't be" is entirely subjective. It's how Batman was. I'd rather watch Adam West's Batman than Robert Pattinson's which was just far too dark, violent, bleak, grim, cynical, nihilistic and misanthropic for my tastes. I don't mind Batman being dark, but too much and it's just no longer an enjoyable experience for me. I thought the Burton films struck the balance nicely between the humor and the darkness (even though back in their day they were criticized, if you can believe it, for being too dark). I also like Nolan's interpretation. The Marvel movies were good for a while but have become too snarky for me. I don't mind camp, but I don't care for snark.

Stick Figure Studios

Also, you really need to watch OCTOPUSSY again. It has a few campy moments but it takes the story and character more seriously than you are remembering... more than MOONRAKER certainly.

Stick Figure Studios

I am confident that TSWLM will be one of the winners of the Moore poll, but I have no idea what will be the second. I'd also like it of she did three.

Stick Figure Studios

You don't think that even CASINO ROYALE is worth watching? Wow. I... don't know what to say to that. :-/

Richard Maurer

You're correct in stating that how Batman should be is subjective I was merely giving my own perspective. And, seeing as Pattinson's Batman is by far my favorite version at this point I will have to respectfully say we should agree to disagree.

rakesh

Goldfinger is the clear fav, but it's hilarious how we're actually voting for three by tieing Dr No and From Russia with Love. To be fair, Connery deserves the three. He was after all the original and arguably the best. I'll watch the full reaction of Lazenby because that's the only one I haven't seen. Glad to see Dalton getting his two as well he's getting a Renaissance of sorts with Penny Dreadful and Doom Patrol, I feel he was robbed not getting more. Craigs ones.. I felt only the first and last of his run were good.

Richard Maurer

You could be correct on Octopussy, I haven't seen it in a while. But just going on the name alone makes it hard to take it seriously.

Richard Maurer

Why don't we include Johnny English, Get Smart, and Austin Powers while we're at it? I mean if we're going to include parodies...... ;-)

Richard Maurer

That's big chunk of time on films that might not do so well on YT that you're asking for. I'd like if she did more too, say 3 of each, but all of them is something Cassie doesn't seem to want spend her time on, and probably for good reason.

Björn Karlsson

Hmmmm a long shot here 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I think you are german/austrian. Have you seen the swedish movie "Raus aus Åmål" (the german title)??? It was quite popular in Germany back in 99-02. 😇😇😄😄

Adam Doyle

Cassie, have you seen The Rock (with Sean Connery and Nic Cage)? It is a great action movie set on Alcatraz, but there is a very detailed fan theory that the character played by Sean Connery is actually a James Bond. If you are interested in the connection, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FdnevXjqdc&t=8s . Plus, it is a very fun movie.

Jim Williams

You could say "Wow, you must be an old-school James Bond fan who has no interest in bringing him into the woke 21st century..." And I forgot, it was actually David Niven who played James Bond in Casino Royal, not Peter Sellers. It's been decades since I watched it so...

Jim Williams

really. He didn't treat women as if they were men. That's not misogyny, however politically incorrect it is today.

Jim Williams

You're right; we need to include David Niven. My bad, it's been decades since I watched "Casino Royale" and I mis-remembered it.

Jim Williams

just sticking to the Connery movies would be best. They had the most Bond "flavor" to them. Connery is to Bond what Christopher Reeve is to Superman and Robert Downy Jr is to Iron Man.

Jim Williams

The problem I've had with the James Bond franchise is that, he was a product and a denizen of the Cold War. If they were to reboot him again, they should dive into the archives of declassified Soviet documents for story ideas, stick Bond *back* in the 1960s, have him combating real communist agents rather than made-up villains. This means also restoring the culture of the era as well as the Bond of the era. If they could do that faithfully (lol yeah, right), it would make for a renewed and very entertaining series of movies.

Jim Williams

if you think Bond was misogynous, you'd have a cow if you ever watched the parody movies, "In Like Flint" and "Our Man Flint".

Mike LL

HA HA, actually Niven, Sellers, and Allen! Woody, that is. I have a soft spot for Casino 67. I spoke on the Discord about how much I loved the Goldfinger music score, and today here about how much I loved the Godfather music scores. I love love love when a movie has a truly great and memorable music score. And Casino 67 has an unforgettable music score. The movie is worth watching just for the music. Our family had the soundtrack album back in the day, it was a knockout!

Mike LL

Jim, I agree to the spirit of what you are saying, but the Craig fans could say the same thing too. "Why bother with other Bonds, just watch all the new ones!" Cassie is trying to navigate this minefield, and I'm sure from reading all these comments she feels she has really stepped into it big time! What she must be thinking now!

Stick Figure Studios

It's certainly one of the more provocative Bond titles, but it does come directly from one of Ian Fleming's stories.

Matthew Dunham

You gotta watch em in order kiddo! ❤️

Harald Mahr

Time and fatigue might be the constraint, thats all. Sry if that got lost in my bad english. I only wanted to say, to do connery and moore justice 3 might be better, but hey, only a suggestion.

Harald Mahr

What gave it away, my perfect english imitation? 😉 Nice touch that you explicitly added austrian. Dont know that movie, at least not knowingly, need to check it out.

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

@Stick Figure Studios, then why watch all the Craig's, while most of us know there are only two really good ones?

Stick Figure Studios

I don't "know" that there are only two good ones. I know there are two great ones, one good one, one mediocre one and one poor one, but unlike all the other actors' tenures, these ones are all tied together and tell one complete overarching story. I'm guessing that's why she's doing all five (also because Carly has actually seen them before and apparently liked them) and, frankly, I'm not opposed to that.

Richard Maurer

Yes, I know, but maybe Fleming should have rethought that one. I remember the first time I heard that title - I thought it was a joke. Not since Pussy Galore have I heard something so ridiculous that I was supposed to somehow take semi-seriously.

Stick Figure Studios

Didn't you know, Richard? If something is not as extreme in its misogyny as something else, that's practically the same as not being misogynist at all. I mean, it's not like there's a continuum or anything.

Larry Darrell

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Burt Bacharach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WvZF3_EZJM#t=1m48s He also did the Music for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I can't stop humming the Casino Royale theme now, by the way, Mike, Thanks.

Björn Karlsson

Nah 😊 It was your name and a quick check on Facebook 😉 It's easy to mistake Austrians from Germans, when you only have a name (been there, done that 🫣) Yeah check it out 🙂 I harass Scandinavians and Germans here about that movie 😬😬🤪🤪🥴🥴

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

The two “great” ones are Casino Royale (2006) and Skyfall (2012), with Casino being one of my all time favorite movies. These two are not connected and can be watched independently. Quantum of Solace is connected to Casino, and Spectre connected Skyfall and No Time to Die (actually, it connected all of them, but anyways). So one can watch the 1st and 3rd and be good to go. I do have a soft spot for Quantum (I take it, it’s the poor one for you), so I don’t mind it to complete Bond’s Casino journey. I’ve spoken 😎

Jeff Milcheck

The best bond theme song in my opinion wasn’t even used. It was rejected for being “too dark”.. Radioheads- “Spectre” I’m biased as Radiohead is my favorite band, but i think most would agree it’s pretty great! Someone edited it to the opening of the film so we could at least see what could have been… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4mIWoLg69Y

Keith Jones

we need to work hard to make sure Dr. No and Russia tie, then maybe we get 3 Connery's?

Tim Raths

It’s really close right now between Dr. No and From Russia With Love.

Stick Figure Studios

Sorry, Craig-haters. Only official EON-produced Bond films for this reaction Channel by order of Cassie herself. No hard feelings, eh? I'm sure there are plenty of other reactors out there that might be more willing to satisfy your particular Bond tastes. :-)

Shawn Kildal

I wonder what happens if there is a tie for 2nd place??? Interesting. That would be hilarious if we could somehow create ties for 2nd place in the Moore and Bronsan movies as well.

Dazman

Create a tie between Dr No and From Russia with Love for second place. Watching the first three should keep everyone happy!

Tej Shah

Technically, Lazenby might be a different Bond, if you count the "this never happened to the other guy" comment.

Grad

I think it's a good idea to only watch a select few from each generation. No reason to sit through a mediocre movie just for the sake if it.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, I still think it's a better title than TOMORROW NEVER DIES (which doesn't even make any sense) and QUANTUM OF SOLACE, but your mileage may vary. To Moore's credit, he always defended the title. In interviews when people would ask him what his next Bond movie was going to be and he'd tell them, they'd be shocked saying, "You're not seriously going to call it that are you? You can't." And he would respond with absolute coolness, "Why? What's wrong with OCTOPUSSY?" Such an unflappable gentleman.

Richard Maurer

I did always like Moore's wit. His interviews were always much more entertaining than your average celebrity.

Stick Figure Studios

Nah, he's the same Bond. That's just a little wink and nod to the audience (literally as he actually glances to the camera). We're all in on the joke.

Stick Figure Studios

One could watch just CASINO ROYALE and SKYFALL as they are indeed the two great Craig films (and the only two that could conceivably function as standalone stories) and if she'd opted to do that I'd be fine with it (although I've always been a proponent of the "watch all of them" approach, but shy of that I'll accept whatever she does). She just doesn't want to do that. She wants to watch all of them and since taken together they tell one complete story, I think that's a great idea. I don't know why that should bother us. I have spoken. ;-)

Richard Maurer

Lazenby was definitely the weak link in OHMSS. I think Connery (obviously) or Moore would have made that film one of the most respected bond films of all, with Connery being the preferred choice.

Richard Maurer

Duran Duran's AVtAK is my second favorite Bond theme song after Live and let die, and I'm not even much of a Duran Duran fan.

Richard Maurer

Goldfinger's already won in a landslide. If just five people could change their vote from Goldfinger to Dr. No we could have a 2-way tie for second.

Richard Maurer

To many good movies from the Connery and Moore eras for just two. Now if we could only agree on which Moore movies are the good ones........

Bill Maurer

Another plug for Thunderball, adjusted for inflation, it is the second most successful Bond movie at the Box Office, https://www.forbes.com/sites/travisbean/2020/04/18/all-26-james-bond-films-ranked-at-the-box-office/?sh=21d1be681804 https://www.007james.com/articles/box_office.php

Stick Figure Studios

The one Moore entry that most people seem to be able to agree on is THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. After that, it's anybody's game.

Tim Raths

This is getting interesting. 😮

Matt Rose

Honestly, the first five are great. It's only DAF that's a bit of a stiff, and even that one has some good parts to it.

BRT

That's what I would do but it's not imperative. I doubt if even most of us enthusiasts saw them in order. If you catch one or two and love them, you can always go back because you will want to rewatch anyway.

BRT

That's the first one I saw and hooked me to go back and watch the early ones ;D

BRT

OK...I changed my vote to make them tie. if only it will hold for an hour....

Richard Maurer

It finished with Dr. No one vote behind FRWL. Hopefully that will be enough to get Cassie to add Dr, No.

Dazman

I think the proposed watching pattern is fine for the others BUT it would be great to watch the first three Connery's...

Mike LL

I think this is a quandry for Cassie since the second place ended in a virtual tie. Some might resent her adding another reaction to please the tie makers. What she could do is watch Dr. No and From Russia With Love with Carly as a double feature, so it would count as one reaction. One long reaction. Four movies reacted to that week in three reactions. And for the record I wanted Dr. No to be skipped because the other two movies were better.

James1035

I think is definitely an idea to consider. I can’t see how you don’t add Dr No when there is only a 1 vote difference between them.

Mingo Wayama

I voted for FRWL over Dr. No. I support her reacting to all three movies. If she does, I think it makes sense to watch them in release order, to see the progression of quality, although I agree that isn't essential, since all 3 are stand-alone movies.

Larry Darrell

And So it Begins. Good Luck Cass. Whatever you decide will be fine.

Matt Rose

The more I think on it, the more I think that GOLDFINGER should be her first Bond film. I am a huge James Bond fan and love almost all of the films, but DR. NO and FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE...while being excellent films...are tonally different from the rest of the series, especially through the Brosnan years. GOLDFINGER is where the series really took off, mainly because it had more of a sense of playfulness and 'fun'. If we want to get Cassie off on the right foot with the series, then GOLDFINGER is the place to start. Assuming she likes it, she can watch the two earlier films at a later date. The continuity is minimal in these films so it wouldn't mess up her viewing experience.

DWG15

I voted for FRWL but I'd love for Cassie to watch all three.

Gábor Árki

My opinion is to stick with release order regardless how many is getting a reaction at the end. This is an order you just can't go wrong with in general. Also, the best way to see the evolution of the character and the formula, also somewhat important due to the slight continuity present in most of the Connery movies.

Richard Maurer

The tie making thing can only work when the two films were close to begin with. Since both films were nearly equal in popularity watching both shouldn't be a problem, except with the small Bond-hating minority.

Dazman

SO close to a tie! Just needed one more! Whatever people's thoughts on Dr No vs others, it does hold a lot of importance as the first film, where many things are introduced. Come on Cassie, just this once, do three movies!

Dazman

I think Thunderball can seem a little slow if you aren't already invested in the character/actor and style. It spends a lot of time in a health club and a lot of time underwater!

Bill Maurer

The time at the HC was where Bond met Count Lippe & Fiona and first come across a "suspected plot". The underwater scene was one of the largest ever made at that time or probably ever !! It does go on a bit too long, I agree with that.

Two Vague Podcast

So… Never Say Never Again… back to back with Thunderball or don’t include it at all? Have you heard Johnny Cash’s rejected Thunderball theme song? It’s really great! The rushed Tom Jones sung theme is amazingly sung even though the lyrics are neigh nonsensical. Still… it’s my favorite Bond movie theme.

Mike LL

Well rumors and speculation is starting to fly with the news tonight that you will start your Bond journey this week. I hope you have read the many comments here asking you to watch the movies in the order they were made. Please, please do this and don’t start with Goldfinger.

Dazman

I'm pleased she said she would probably watch all three. And, yes, as they are consecutive she should watch them in order. There is some continuity.
