Oh Kageyama.... I had your back, my dude. I defended you passionately, and then you go and do something like that?? 🤦‍♀️

Adam the Sage is out in full force this episode, so hang tight for some life lessons, everybody 🧙‍♂️

I think the audio from the show cuts out around the 3:20 mark. Did you maybe accidentally upload the YouTube version?

So I've been waiting for this episode because its something you realize in hindsight outside of the first episode Kageyama does not cause waves with the upper classmen. He and Tsukishima snipe at each other and his relationship with hinata is a whole other thing. That's why his response to nishinoya cause such a reaction coupled with the fact that everyone on the team has noticed the energy change since he came back from the training camp

I'm not sure it's true to say "Ushijima says things and it's fine." It's not really fine. There are MULTIPLE mentions how he's hard to approach, even to his teammates. He is seen eating alone. Outside the court, only Tendo is really seen ever hanging out with him.

SpaceCoyote

It happens several times throughout the episode. Is there any chance of this getting reuploaded with this fixed? Would really appreciate it, thanks.

I really like the end where Ukai implies that Date Tech might be the scariest opponent next year. It was a big deal early season 2 when they had to decide whether to keep their third years or not. Karasuno definitely went yes but Date Tech chose not to and this really hurt them this Spring Tournament. BUT... This episode implies that this choice may very well pay off next year. Their team IS coming along super well and next time around they're gonne be THE team to beat.

I always took Tanaka's reaction to be more about the fact it's a first year talking to second year in that manner. I'm assuming the same in Japan but in my culture, a junior would never call out an upperclassman in front of the whole team like that. Also Ushijima, I don't know but I always read him as having some sort of neuro-diversity (Asperger's or autism), his words don't have any hidden meaning, he only speaks what he believes to be true. He just lacks the empathy or emotional intelligence to understand how that might impact the person he talks to.

You guys mentioned how Hinata is the one who bridges the communication barriers on the team, but neither one of you commented on Hinata's growth on how he was noticing the differences from when Kogane was setting to Tsukki back at the youth camp to when Kagayama was setting to Tsukki in the practice match vs Date Tech and you also failed to noticed that Suga was the only one to mention this growth in Hinata dispite Hinata himself thinking Suga was talking about Tsukki

To answer Sarah’s question about why did Tanaka say that about Kageyama. It’s just a Japanese culture thing, the way Kageyama spoke to Nishinoyo is not how a junior should talk to a senpai. Japan takes seniority to an absurd level

Cristina

By the way guys, if you're interested, Aone is not pronounced Ao(knee), it's Ao(ne)ver. You guys get the first half right 👍🏼 but I've noticed you pronounce the second half like the english word knee, when it should sound like the first part of the word never. I don't mean this the wrong way, I'm sorry if I offend you guys. I just wanted to leave this information here, you guys are totally free to pronounce it any way you guys want.

The Date Tech 3rd years showing up is a funny result of them trying to save money on the animation. In the manga the practice match takes place at Date Tech, so it makes sense why the third years are watching, but they switched the location to Karasuno for the anime so they didn’t have to draw the Date Tech location

So the anime playback audio in this video cuts out several times as if this is a YouTube edit. It got a bit distracting over time. Hoping this gets fixed and re-uploaded. Great reaction, nonetheless.

same here, tho it's only been an hour from your comment. i got sad that i can't hear the bgmusic. lol

IIRC, you had a draft version wherein you picked players with "potential" in three years-time, or something like that. This is the episode that I thought when you did that. Especially the part where coach ukai mentioned that Date Tech will be a hard team to beat next year.

I love how Karasuno's responses to Kageyama ignited Sarah's Queen of the Court PTSD so much that it drives her to become the keeper of Kageyama's soul 😆. That is the sign of some good, relatable writing right there (Kudos, Furudate-sensei). On that note, I wonder if Adam has a player (on Karasuno or otherwise) that he feels super protective of, personality-wise.

Alex Park

Agreed. For one, Goshiki includes him on his "impenetrable, cold" Senpai list. But the culture of 'results speak for themselves' Washijo likely created at Shiratorizawa probably makes the high-performing Ushijima somewhat untouchable, even if Ushijima personally isn't averse to harsh input (as exemplified by his accommodation of Shirabu's "while you're of use" statement in Season 3). It would have been interesting to see how many communication problems there were under Shiratorizawa's hood, especially while Ushijima was there.

Judy

Guys i think this is the YouTube version cos there are alot of audio cuts. Is it possible to re-upload?

So, why does Kageyama get so much flak but Tsukishima doesn't? Well, there are huge differences in tone and the atmosphere their words create. Kageyama is authoritative and violent, he doesn't comunicate until he bursts and tells you what you should do because he is better than you; I see Kageyama getting mad and throwing the first punch, he creates tension around him and makes people scared of him. Tsuki is the exact opposite, he is a sarcastic asshole that taunts and mocks you, but you know there is no violence in there, he is not plotting your demise, he just sees an opportunity to poke fun at you and takes it; by creating banter he eases tension and gives an oportunity to talk back, when you are at the end of the insult you shake your fist like a cartoon character and say "Damn you Tsuki!" but there is never tension there and for the rest they get a laugh. In the end, see how Kageyama becomes Tsuki when he says "I won't stoop down to your level" he is taunting Tsuki and no one is tense, in response Tsuki tries harder to clap back at Kageyama. That's the power of banter and being sarcastic, that's the main difference. As always love your reactions Ushiji- I mean Kageya- I mean Sarah. *Smirks*

I just love to see the dynamics and appreciate the commentary from both of you! I recommended it to the coach of a mid-major DI team. She’s thinking about asking her athletes to watch your reactions and discuss off season.

Sarah

Just saw the comments about the audio now. So sorry about that. I am getting it fixed and will post a new version asap
