loose concept art for some prominent moms in our story. >:3 I may make tweaks to these guys as needed, but for now, have some notes!

-Sheena: (Spotted Hyena, Teacher). Virgil's biological mama! He's got her smile~ Sheena was a warm friendly woman with a contagious loud laugh, her humor was always just a teeny bit mean-spirited, but never enough to hurt. Despite a poor, troubled upbringing, Sheena defied the odds and pursued a teaching degree while also single-handedly raising her teeny hyena cub. A deeply spiritual person, Sheena had an incredible singing voice and had dreams of someday becoming a choir director. She was deeply involved in her community and sought to improve the lives of creatures everywhere, especially those born into poverty. Sheena's teaching paycheck was pretty measly and her job often left her stressed and exhausted, but she nonetheless strove to be a fun, loving, dedicated mother to Virgil. He loved her very, very much. Their life together was tough but beautiful, right up until Sheena moved into her early thirties, and the symptoms of her latent mental illness began to manifest.

As an adult Virgil is a pretty chill, unflappable guy, but the topic of his mother is one that never fails to upset him. Mostly he feels rage- but also beneath that, a deep, crushing grief.

Sheena is shown in her youth (mid twenties) above. In present-day Fuzzbutts, she is currently in her fifties.

Biscuit: (Golden Retriever/Saluki Mix, Pediatrician). Her real name is Dr. Bridget Fletcher, but dogs universally enjoy silly nicknames. Biscuit is the biological mother of Sunny and adoptive mom of Jude and Cass. Biscuit is a kind, soft-spoken woman whose very presence has a calming effect on her patients. Is your poor pup afraid of getting his parvo shot? Have no fear, Doctor Biscuit is here! (And she's got a lolly in her pocket to reward the pup's bravery, of course).

Biscuit was born to a wealthy family on the coast of Ireland. She speaks with a quiet, posh Irish accent (imagine Lisa Hannigan, eg. Blue Diamond) and is greatly gifted at singing lullabies (a very helpful ability indeed for a pediatrician).

Biscuit and her husband Buddy always wanted a big litter of children, but were surprised when her first pregnancy turned out a rare lone singleton pup, their beloved little Sunny. Sunny is the golden apple of Biscuit's eye and can do no wrong. Biscuit is a bit blind to the privilege afforded to her as a domestic dog, which has led to some issues between her and her adopted daughters. Biscuit believes other carnivores are simply not trying hard enough to improve their social standing, but you won't coax that opinion out of her without a few glasses of red wine first. She does not care for Sunny's girlfriend, Skye, and finds her to be quite unlady-like and low-class. She wishes her handsome boy would date the nice yellow lab girl from their suburb instead.

Biscuit is shown in her youth (thirties) above. In present-day Fuzzbutts, she is currently in her fifties.

Celia: (Harp Seal, Student) A teenage girl from a podunk town called Iceberg. It was literally a chunk of ice floating out in the open sea, housing a couple hundred seals and not many things to do. So you can imagine how Celia found herself pregnant at sixteen. Without much money or many resources (as well as outraged parents breathing down her neck), Celia travels to Critter City to give her newborn pup, Cassie, up for adoption. It is there she meets Dr Fletcher, who sets out to help Celia, buuuuut finds herself smitten with the pup herself. "Wee little mermaid puppy", Biscuit calls her. Biscuit couldn't help adopting baby Cassie- dogs are notoriously impulsive.

Celia is shown in her youth (mid teens) above. In present-day Fuzzbutts, she is currently in her late thirties. Giving Cass up allowed her to pursue her dream of becoming an aquastructure engineer, where she works to incorporate city infrastructure that is friendly to marine animals. Things like water-filled travel tubes for easy transportation, "wet seating" ponds and puddles in restaurants and theaters, etc. Celia is warm, intelligent, and just a bit sarcastic. As an adult, she has married and had more pups. Her home is always open to Cass, who for all her gratitude to her mom Biscuit, still feels woefully out of place as a seal living in a family of canines. For Cass, getting to meet her bio mom and visit a marine-friendly home has been a breath of fresh air (or perhaps a gulp of seawater).

I love them all so much, great designs! I can’t wait to learn more about Sheena! And great job with Biscuit, I can totally see the Saluki influence and she definitely has a comforting but official vibe going, perfect for a (slightly snobby) pediatrician! And I love Celia! Her design is great and her story sounds so interesting! I love the idea of the aquatics architect. I bet that’s an interesting family dynamic as well since Cass can visit, can’t wait to see more! :D
