Remember back in history, high birth rates and high death rates were the norm. As many people would die, many babies were born in the same amount as well. Hell the freakin average life expectancy back during the day was around the 30s during the century this show takes place in. The life expectancy only started rising during the 1800s and 1900s. My great great grandparents had 12 kids and 4 of them died before the age of 10! Man living during the old ages must have been hard knowing you could die young.

Ah-Duo was a concubine only to the current emperor and never to a former emperor. Lishu is the one who became the former emperor's concubine and later became the current emperor's concubine. Ah-Duo became the current emperor's concubine when he was still a prince and gave birth to their son. At the same time, the Empress Dowager gave birth to the former emperor's son (the emperor at the time). The newborn princes might have been swapped then, but we need to remember that it's only Maomao's speculation. This show has many implications, which sometimes lead us to confusing interpretations. We're not even revealed who Jinshi really is, but we speculate he is related to the royal family. We don't know if Jinshi actually knows about the baby-swapping or if Ah-Duo is his mother. We just saw Jinshi having a drink with her and crying the night before she left the rear palace.

BTW, it was not Maomao's real family that had business with Fengming's family. On her record in the rear palace, her kidnapper is her relative, and the kidnapper's family had business with Fengming's family. Again, this is pretty confusing.

One thing i love about anime like this is the theories and multiple ways to interpret things. I will say you guys are doing a good job so far of catching things lol it took me a lot of rewatches to catch some things.

He could be. What I'm trying to say is that because of many implications, we tend to assume our speculation is something that is really happening in the show. For example, even the idea of Jinshi being part of the royal family or being Ah-Duo's son is speculation, as none have ever been officially portrayed in the show. Still, we assume that swapping was done between Empress Dowager's son and Jinshi, instead of simply Ah-Duo's son. Sorry if my statement just made you confusion.
