Adam Sandler is back in animation with his next Netflix movie, Leo. In this review, not only will I be looking into this musical lizard, but also discover how Leo is so far the best animated movie featuring Adam Sandler yet…even if the Netflix film itself is not all that great.

That's saying something considering all the other ones he somehow got away with making.

the fact this film got a higher score than Wish reminds me of that clip of an award show where Sandler said “I’d like to give a shoutout to my fellow nominees, who will now and forever be known as the guys who lost to fuckin’ Adam Sandler.”

I honestly didn’t really have much interest in watching this movie, and after watching this review, I might honestly skip this one, however I can at least appreciate the effort put into this movie by Adam Sandler, especially with how the movie an have a sold message even if the story isn’t that good, and the songs are forgettable, it also does still have some decent animation and solid characters, and the fact that Adam Sandler did actually get to work with his family on this movie is really nice and I’m definitely happy that he got that opportunity. So overall this is definitely not the best animated film of the year but definitely not the worst either, and I can at least appreciate the effort that was put into it, although at least for me I do still prefer the first 2 Hotel Transylvania movies over this.

I think you guys be aware that working on Leo is what causes Adam Sandler to be unavailable to reprise his as Dracula in Hotel Transylvania 4. It was confirm by people that is close to Sandler why is it that he didn’t come back which would makes sense since he not only star of this film, but also co write the script and being the producer of the film for Happy Madison at the same time so I believe that is might be the case. Anyways, as the first Happy Madison animated film since Eight Crazy Nights, I find this surprisingly alright. Although I didn’t have much high hopes for this, but I find it rather fine if it weren’t to voice acting, okay animation despite some uncomfortable moments here and there like the kindergarten kids or that yoga lady on this very weird position for example, decent message, and the heart that was put in this film. The rest I find it to be bland like the predictable cliche story, some hit or miss humor particularly the gross gag as expected for a Happy Madison film on top of product placements etc, weak songs which I find it pointless in having them, and some generic characters as well. I know there isn’t much for me to say but at least it a bit a step up compared to that 2D animated flick despite not one of the animated films I seen from Netflix. I likely prefer the first two Hotel Transylvania films in terms of Adam Sandler’s best animated films he in but I probably won’t remember much anytime soon. I still can’t believe it gain positive reviews from critics and how Netflix throws their money on a Thanksgiving parade balloon on this old man lizard still.

Well, at least it’s a step up from Eight Crazy Nights and the later Hotel Transylvania sequels in terms of animated films starring Adam Sandler. Although the premise of a class iguana making what he believes is the last year of his life by helping the kids in his classroom is a nice idea for a plot and it’s heartwarming moments does occasionally come through in Leo’s interactions with the kids, I do agree it could’ve been much better without the cliche liar reveal trope and some of Adam Sandler’s typical humor found in most of his Happy Madison films like the gross out gags and funny voices, even if said humor is to be expected in an Adam Sandler film. But at least this better than Trolls Band Together.

I honestly thought I was going to hate this movie when I first turned it on and there was a moment where I almost turned it off, but the movie did start to grow on me as it when on, the story didn’t really do much for me and I was worried about some of the characters coming off as annoying especially that one girl who wouldn’t shut up but I was surprised at how most of the issues with the characters were worked into the story in a clever way. I didn’t really care for the songs since most of them sounded like they were written more for a school play then for a movie but overall I thought this movie was just ok. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to watch it again any time soon though

I can at least say that Adam Sandler‘s elderly man impression in Leo is way better than the one in eight crazy nights.
