Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 7 of REBELS!!!!  This was a really great one, showing off not only Hera's skills, but also the B-Wing!!!
It was a good lesson in how working together can make a big difference - one might have the skills to build, but needs another to pilot, for instance.  And I'm always down for a Hera-centric ep!!!  Great ep! Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

I wont say much about Hera, because there will be more episodes that dive way deeper into her story than the short sentence in this episode. Hm, the aswer to if you saw her in clone wars? Well...no? yes?...depends what Clone Wars is to you. You will also see other characters from clone wars again.

Such a lovely romantic episode about following your dream, even in trying circumstances. I had a B-Wing as a kid along with the Millenium Falcon and the Ewok Village, good times. Quarrie is a lot of fun, voiced by the same person who does Cad Bane, Count Dooku and Ziro The Hutt, what a talent Corey Burton is. One of the reasons in Star Wars lore that Admiral Ackbar, and other Mon Cals, appear at the major battles like Endor (and Scarif) was because it was always thought that Mon Calamari's built a lot of the newer ships for the Rebellion; and I think Quarrie is introduced here to solidify that idea and he may have been the chief shipwright for the Rebels. Always brings a lump to my throat when he says to Hera on her flying "I just hammered it together young pilot... you made it soar!". And now with Phoenix Leader killed earlier in the episode, Hera is now Captain Syndulla and will lead the squadron. Well deserved, she's the best! Love the music in this episode. The five or six composers who work on this show did so on Clone Wars and Bad Batch too, but I feel this is their magnum opus; Rebels has so much memorable music in most episodes. There is less reliance on John Williams from the second season, only bringing his iconic music out when necessary. The piece Hera Soars here, is a nod to the score for The Rocketeer and is thrilling as she glides masterfully through the clouds. Great stuff. As for Hera and her backstory and its link to the Clone Wars, there is a link, but there's more to come on that later.

First things first before I forget: you’ve got the wrong episode title on the header here, that was Episode 6. Might want to correct that. 😉 For the episode itself: it seems to me that Ezra and Chopper fighting over the copilot seat is a lot like Grif and Simmons arguing over “shotgun!” We knew the Empire was going to take worse turns, but when they’re willing to squeeze people actually working for them to the breaking point just to lure in the opposition… yeah, we’re probably at the point of no return here with them, if we weren’t already. Quarrie seems to be constantly testing Hera as soon as she shows up. I don’t think he was concerned that she was a capable pilot, though. I noticed he was watching her closely and when he brought out the repair kit for the Phantom he was testing her knowledge of its inner workings, does she know how to fix things as well? Like I said, though, he isn’t concerned she can fly the ship - he’s concerned that she was the right PERSON to fly the ship and that’s what he was testing her on. Hera’s speech about flight is something that is common among pilots. Most of them simply just love to fly, no matter the circumstances. You ask them, they’re pretty passionate about their craft, for lack of a better word. It’s a career thing. So when the B-Wing fires on the Star Destroyer I noticed it fires out of three separate ports and creates a large beam. However… the Death Star did something similar when it fired and destroyed Alderaan in Episode IV. Did they just unwittingly give the Empire the idea on a much smaller scale? Also B-Wing… I believe there’s another letter of a famous fighter ship at the other end of the alphabet… but it seems like we might have a ways to go to get to that version. 😎

The engineer was really cute. The maker and the one who made it soar. This was a cool one. Especially seeing someone like Hera getting promoted.

kamenriderhime

Yes!!! And such a great way of putting it too! Omg yes, if anyone deserves a promotion, it's Hera!

kamenriderhime

Nice!!! Hmm...interesting!!! Vague yet some implications....I will have to dwell on that one! So nice that we'll have more CW cameos too!!

kamenriderhime

Yes!!! So cool that you had a B-Wing as a kid, along with other cool toys from the sound of it. No way!!!! That's all the same VA?!?!?!?! WOW!!! Ahhh, interesting concept that the Mon Cals were responsible for ships. That line is spectacular :D Yes, Hera for sure deserves the promotion! Wow, I didn't realize that the musicians for this ep had such a resume. The music was phenomenal for sure! You could definitely feel the whimsy!!! Hmm, I'll eagerly await the CW link for Hera!!!

Yeah I'm of the original trilogy generation and Star Wars was a phenomenon back then, in fact A New Hope was filming the year I was born, so I think I will always have a link with Star Wars till the end of my days! As for Corey Burton, I always laugh at the episode in Clone Wars when Ziro gets killed (though not at that of course because I'd love a Ziro show as he was such a fun character), when he and Sy Snootles team up, as Corey does the voice acting for Ziro, and Nika Futterman does her voice. And the reason I find that funny is because she also plays Ventress. So Ziro and Sy are kind of a warped version of Dooku and Ventress between the actors! :D

kamenriderhime

Oh yeah haha, I fixed it! That's the danger of copy/paste before coffee I guess! LOL there actually is a passing resemblance between Ezra and Chopper here, and Grif and Simmons!!! :P Oh yeah, the Empire is willing to hurt their own, and somehow that's sadly not surprising. Exactly, I think he's testing more of her heart than her piloting capabilities on paper. That's awesome that this is not an uncommon feeling amongst pilots!!! It sounds so whimsical! Ooof, I did not notice that but I hope that's not where they got the idea! Oh yeah, I'm hoping we get that end-of-the-alphabet ship really soon!!!

kamenriderhime

Oh wow!!! Yes, there's nothing like the Star Wars that was with you during your formative years lol. WHOA, no way that Snootles and Ventress are the same VA!!!!! That's nuts!!! Hahah talk about range! They really are like a bizarro version of Dooku and Ventress hahaha, dang!!!

This is one of those times where the Rebels crew are helping set up future events, I think: the B-wings were involved in attacking the Death Star in Return of the Jedi (I think they are in the movie briefly during the attack).

Nick

I think one of the things that makes Rebels so great a show is that it continues past events (Clone Wars) but also prepares the way for future events (the original trilogy and Rogue One). By the way, have you seen Rogue One?
