Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2 episode 9 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime!  Oh man, this one was a great breather from everything, and a great reaffirmation of how much everyone/thing in the JTF means!!!  I was glad to see that Rimuru has not lost his sense of peacemaking, but we do have to deal with what's in front of us as well.  We've set up a great strategy here and something tells me that this time, the bad guys don't stand a chance...!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

It's really blowing my mind what a turn we've taken in the story, and the fights were incredible!!

Oh no!!! This one? Sort of a heartwarming episode with a bit of vengeance thrown in, wouldn't you say? A lot of people out there hate the meeting, but if it's left out beople will not understand the new direction Rimuru and the JTF are taking, some character development, how all of this binds the people together even more, and so on. I think this even relates to one of the main themes of the story. (These themes take a long time to become established, so I won't go into it ) Rimuru isn't losing sight of his goal, and he's made his peace with what he's going to do. Actually that stuff about having to collect those souls himself is technically a lie. All that's needed is to have someone connected to him do it in according to his will. But doing it himself might improve his chances to become a True Demon Lord, as well as fulfill his internal need. Also, if you just use the term Demon Lord (DL for brevity) by itself, it can have multiple meanings. You can be a True DL and not advertise it, and the Official DLs won't care. You first have to be a DL Seed, of course. Then there are those who are True DLs and others who are not True DLs, both of whom could proclaim themselves to be to the world. The Official DLs won't let them get away with that without them proving themselves by defeating (killing, I think) another Official DL or by being sponsored by 3 of them. This results in some non-True DLs still being recognized as Official DLs.

This episode is a little more of a setup and exposition one, but there’s a couple of interesting things to note. Before I forget, you should probably stop saying we’re going to get everyone back like it’s a sure thing: haven’t you learned one of your shows’ favorite pastime is hurting you when you don’t see it coming? 😅 I kid but I also don’t. Something did catch my eye. The opening for this season only has Shion in it for a one-second shot in the entire thing. That seems ominous. I don’t think Veldora and the Cgaos Dragon are connected other than they are both dragons. The only thing that seems to tie them together is their sealing away. Okay. The episode itself, like I said, is mostly dialogue and exposition. I do think Rimuru is justified in feeling like everything’s his fault, but what’s really nice is how everyone else is quick to try and take some of the blame off of him. Nobody understands Rimuru better than his friends and allies do, and what he is truly capable of. The message they’re sending is pretty simple: “you might be captain of this whole thing, but you’re not going to ever have to deal with things alone, we’re all going to pull our weight.” Like you said, that’s why Shion and the others were doing what they did. Everyone believes in Rimuru, but they also believe in each other. Kind of a bit of a side note: but they did say that humans being good or evil largely depends on their environment. That’s always going to influence their decisions. I think it’s a good point, and we’re actually really exploring that in detail with Weiss in RWBY: Ice Queendom at the moment to give a good example of what they’re saying. “The key to the relationship between humans and monsters is communication.” That particular quote made for an interesting thought process. When you think about every friend or ally Rimuru has made, they all started at odds with him in one shape or another. So how did they end up on his side? They actually took the time to actually talk and listen to him. What has Falmuth not even bothered to do? They didn’t even try to open a line of communication. They simply just started attacking, refused to listen, and didn’t even bother to have a discussion. I having a feeling they’re going to regret that decision. It should also be pointed out that Rimuru on top of everything else seems to be a really good strategist. He’s moving all his pieces into positions of advantage, and although he doesn’t relish the thought of war, it seems he’s got a good mind for it. At this point I’m like, “Sure, why not? He pretty much can do anything, so why not this?” 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I should move on to the next episode.

Mmm I loved that the episode was a full communications thing and the play out effects from what they've endured are about to come out. The whole community coming together and then going their seperate ways to accomplish their objectives is beautiful sight. They haven't lost anything. I mean they did but they didn't. After talking things out they refuse to let any chance to regain their friends back slip. The snowball effect is a grand thing.

Yes, so true!! And I couldn't have said it better - we've had loss but that unbreakable spirit that lies at the core of the JTF - it's still there! Now more than ever perhaps, as we march forward in honor of our friends. So well said!

myst0dreamer

Yes, thanks, although I was about to ask you to truncate it because I rewrote about half in a comment for the next episode.😅

kamenriderhime

Oh, sorry!!! I'm still working through my comments from the last few days and I can't wait to pour over this, so much good info here I'm sure!!!! :D

kamenriderhime

Oh that's interesting about the technicality with the souls! Thanks for explaining about the Demon Lords!!! So there's sort of a "public" DL that doesn't necessarily have to be a true DL. Makes sense!

kamenriderhime

Ahhhh at this point I'm already planning on them being back, REALLY gonna be mad if they don't!!! But you're right, I should know better :P Ah ok, thanks for clarifying about the dragons. Yeah, the message of loyalty and unity here in the JTF was great! Great point that environment is really key, and it's something we're seeing in Ice Queendom as well! So true about Falmuth, they never even gave JTF the chance to have any communication. Rimuru (and Great Sage!!) are great strategists for sure!
