Hey everyone!  Here I am with Red vs. Blue, season 8, eps 14 - 17!  OMG!!!  Not only do we get the big reveal about what the Reds and Blues were really hired for, as well as the total breakdown of Sarge....but we also get a brief side mission for Church and Tex........AND THAT'S HOW IT ENDS?!?!?!  Wow!!!  Like I guess it fits, but at the same time, I was NOT expecting that!  And now Wash is on his way, awesome.  They sure do know how to do a cliffhanger don't they!!!!  Ugh!!!  Great eps!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

You tricked me i just looked away after refreshing and not seeing this!

Zen Reacts

Oh i will. Lots of story and character stuff in this batch!

One of the biggest take aways from this set is the snipet of the journal where we hear that the counselor thinks of Tex as a byproduct of the Alpha. Next week is a very explosive set of episodes and we'll learn the true nature of certain characters

I've seen several people over the years claim that Sarge's reaction to learning his true mission shouldn't be this strong because Wash told him in Season 6 that Red and Blue teams were intended for Freelancer training. To that I say: this is Sarge. He directly tells Wash "You're making that up" in the scene in question, and his defining characteristic is stubbornness. I know you didn't have that reaction, but I've seen it enough that I like to point out why the scene makes sense.

Funny enough RvB also has good DID representation. At least with how the present Church (Epsilon) and how he works. The torture is the trauma, and the "fragments" are the alters. Even when Wash told Alpha the truth. He compared the process to a type of Multiple Personality Disorder. Which is the old term for DID. You could say Tex is a persecutor because she is willing to hurt Church to get answers and, "do what needs to be done." Her line when she shoots him tells it all. "You can't even help yourself! That's why you MADE me Church, you made me to handle all the things you can't. Just like you always have. Well guess what, I'm handling it." Epsilon Tex's purpose, it's like she is the part of Epsilon that wants answers. The memories of Tex who wants to know why. Who is tired of being kept in the dark. Anyways another reason why Epsilon Church is my fave character in RvB. I relate to him alot with memory loss. Can't wait for the next batch it'll be so fun. You could say when Alpha was destroyed. He was the original host. And now Epsilon is the new one. Still part of the original host, but given the task of being the new host with the removal of the original. Which can happen. Hosts change. By either integration or going dormant. If a host can't handle the real world the role is sometime switched to an alter who can. (Sorry got carried away there.)

There’s a few things of interest to point out: As always, I do have to try and be vague because we wouldn’t want to spoil you by accident though. Church’s conversation with Tex has some rather interesting dialogue, the most poignant of which is that he had to get Tex out of his head because he couldn’t get her out of his head. Also Tex seems kind of underwhelmed to be called his girlfriend. Simmons is trying so hard to be useful but he keeps either failing miserably or getting upstaged. Sheila’s just like “Boop! The database is restored!” Also she seems to be self aware when she says she’s disabling her patronizing subroutines. Simmons kinda sees through it though. “You’re still patronizing me, aren’t you? “Kinda. 😄” Tex is obsessed with finding out what the Director knows, however, I’m not positive she’s got enough of the picture to realize that Church has the memories she is actually looking for. Partially this might be that Church isn’t aware of the memories himself. Meanwhile, you’re right about Washington getting dragged into the wackiness more and more despite his best efforts. Meat’s throwing a tantrum, and Doc is pretty much useless to him. Oh, and before you point out the whole heat signature conversation, just remember it’s Doc’s lot in life to never get anything of value accredited to him. While Tex is searching, Church is kind of turning over different stones, too. Like the Director’s journal, which he downloaded and then deleted. It’s mentioned in the voice message that Tex is referred to as a “byproduct” by the Counselor, but the Director does not agree with that assessment. Grif will do anything in the name of laziness. A-NY-THING. Also, the power to nap while invisible…. And you thought world domination was ambitious…. but maybe figure out which armor is which first? 😬 Sarge’s world finally got rocked. The truth hurts, but we’re gonna turn his own line around on him and say, “it’s like ripping off a band-aid!” Of course, it makes sense that the staffed soldiers would be the bottom of the barrel, now we know why all that weird stuff kept happening. But yes, Sarge is broken. In fact he’s so broken that he said the one thing you’d never expect: “Grif was right all along…” It turns out Tex is the one responsible for the rebel attack on Project Freelancer, but they were unable to save Alpha, who had already been tortured beyond any real hope of a full recovery. The reason Tex shot Church was to activate the recovery beacon. The beacon will only turn on if the unit is outside the facility and is detecting an imminent threat to their life. So by Tex’s reasoning she had to do that in order to lure Washington and Meta to her. Also, Caboose is just over here making a fort while all this craziness is going on. He probably thought it was more important than the rest of the batch. :D To quote Gandalf: “the board is set, the pieces are moving…”

2022-08-26 22:28:24 Great set of episodes preparing you for the finale. Once again great to hear you gush about the show and the big episode. I love the continuity of this show even if there had to be some soft retcons for the stuff that wasn’t planned in the first 5 seasons. Also this reaction must have been a treat since you love the Washington silliness. The entire tracking joke is brilliant especially when it turns out Doc was actually right. And yes Wash was hilarious with speaking out of the side of his mouth LOL. And the bickering between Church & Tex continues to be amazing. Also it may not be admirable but you have to admit Tucker has crazy dedication. It’s unfortunate Doc is a prisoner since his idea was very helpful. It’s interesting to see the characters learn more about what’s going on. I’m pretty sure psych profiles are necessary for militaries it’s just strange for most people. Also secrecy can be a good thing in these types of groups but it’s certainly not good for our characters in this case. It’s not surprising that she decided to take action since it feels like the type of character she is. The whole invisible nap thing is a perfect joke for Grif’s character it is too much power LOL. Although personally if there was something that allowed people to live healthily without sleep I would want that. Almost forgot to mention about an earlier part of your reaction but I love the visual of the capture unit being like Ghostbusters. I like the reveal of Church’s visions actually being this safe house instead of Valhalla just being a mixed up memory. I think it’s great how it connects to being the site of the break in that has been mentioned before. We knew about the torture but hearing it in more detail makes it much worse. Also it’s very sad to see Tex’s guilt over what happened to Alpha. Speed Grif is amazing but disturbing in its own way. Although the voice actor did an amazing job. It’s so sad to see how the truth affects Sarge. He isn’t the most stable person but he’s not really a bad person so it sucks to see him like this. At least Caboose is trying to help make him feel better. I hate to say it but this was the perfect place to end this set. This cliffhanger is awesome especially as the music kicks in. It is very shocking to see what Tex does but it makes perfect sense with her state of mind & what she wants. I think it’s an interesting way to do things having the audience know more than the characters as they find out more since it can give good character moments/development. Finally keep in mind the Director talking about the Counselor calling Tex a byproduct. Prepare yourself for next time :-), awesome reaction & keep up the great work. :-) <3

I mean, he follows Sarge logic so....it kinda makes sense haha. I was honestly sort of surprised he didn't go into denial mode this time!!!!!!

Manny

Aw it's hard seeing S dog so down like that. He's always a great pillar of strength. I hope Church is okay but let us pray 🙏 Know what, next time for this volumes finale I'm going to built a fort for comfort. The change in ambience will make me feel better. I feel something crazy is going to happen! 🙁

kamenriderhime

Oh that's interesting!! That does add up quite a bit actually. Her line in that scene fits perfectly. I can totally see why Epsilon Church is such an intriguing character! The host process is interesting as well, it makes a lot of sense and I appreciate you explaining it! No need to apologize whatsoever, I'm learning a lot!!! I can't wait for the next batch too, you can tell we're really ramping up to the finale now!!!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Right?! It's so weird to see him down! Fingers crossed for Church!! Oh I think a comfort fort is an excellent idea, something tells me you'll need it!!!! :O

kamenriderhime

Thanks for being vague! Hmmm, interesting note to take about the comment Church makes to Tex....wonder if that will be important later on! Poor Simmons lol. Hahaha I love that Sheila is more than semi-aware and full of sass! Yeah the answers are closer than Tex thinks, but I don't think either one of them realizes it. Yeah seeing Wash get drawn more and more into the silliness has been fun! Ohhh poor Doc, that's right isn't it. Yeah Church stumbled upon some big info himself right. Yeah the byproduct line is interesting! Grif will go so far to keep being lazy!! Hahaha figuring out the armor first would be a good first step :P Poor Sarge!! When he starts saying Grif is right, that's how you know he's truly broken!! Right, that was Tex's doing....too bad they couldn't save Alpha, but she tried really hard anyway. Right, I think I had put together the beacon situation, I was justill stunned about the shooting! Hahaha Caboose has got the right idea - build somewhere safe and cozy to ride this all out! I can't wait to see what happens next!!!

kamenriderhime

So glad you enjoyed my reaction!! Yes the Wash silliness was welcomed!! Poor Doc, not getting credit! And yeah, you can say a lot of things about Tucker but he is determined! I love Church and Tex's bickering! Yeah the secrecy is not a good thing in this case. You're right, it's not surprising she would spring into action, yet I was still surprised lol. Grif's invisible nap is just way too much power hahaha! Oh I'm glad you liked my Ghostbusters comparison! Yeah it was interesting to get the reveal about the safe house / break in! The details of Alpha's torture were pretty brutal to hear. Hahaha yeah Grif's VA did great with Speed Grif aand it was quite a sight! Poor Sarge!! You can say a lot of things about him but yeah, he's not really bad, and we've come to grow pretty fond of him by this point I think, so it's sad to see him so down! The cliffhanger was super well placed! It does make sense about Tex, even if it feels like a twist! Yes having us know more than the characters makes it interesting for sure! Ohhhh I think that byproduct line is gonna be important!!! Thank you so much for all your kindness and support!!! ^_^
