Hey everyone!!  Here it is - my reaction to the ep 11 of RWBY ICE QUEENDOM!!!!  Dang, we really wrapped things up here!!!  Finally, Weiss is broken out of this nightmare, by none other than a combo of Blake's plan and Ruby's perseverance!
Plus lots of help from Yang, Jaune, the Weiss babies and Dream Pyrrha!!!  The scene with Nicholas was SO heartwarming and explains a lot!!  The Blake/Yang moments and Ruby/Weiss moments were really beautiful and sweet!  Blake climbing out of herself, what an image!  And Weiss being SO embarrassed haha.  I guess it's epilogue time now!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) You should have put a warning, because the moment Ruby wakes up her silver eyes, my ears weren't ready lol The animation is up to par for this episode, we see that they have saved for this one. I had said nothing about the last ones, but I found them below the beginning, now I understand better why. I suspected when she woke up in the nightmare, that Weiss was going to be super embarrassed when she returned to reality. Considering how cute an embarrassed Weiss is, I'm glad I was right lol. I saw you make hearts twice during this episode, during the Ruby/Weiss hug and when Blake is saved by Yang. As I said yesterday, I renamed the episode Bumblebee and the Whiterose, because for lovers of these two ships, it was pure happiness. The next one is probably an epilogue, and I see two options, either it prepares for a season 2, or we end with an event from Volume 2 that we know, like the food fight from the first episode. If we end on a Volume 2 event, definitely, I think the show will only have one season. But I expect to be wrong, it has been the case more than once in the series.

Just a reminder, "Best Day Ever" is, I think, the identical chapter title of RWBY Volume 2, Chapter 1....at the very least it echos Ruby's speech in the dining hall about how the new semester starts the next day so therefore she's planned a whole series of fun activities, determined to have "the best day ever!" and then the food fight starts....I don't think we'll get a recap of the food fight (though that would be fun) but maybe we'll actually get to SEE the fun activities Ruby actually planned for the team as OG RWBY kind of glossed over that to get on with the main story. I totally predicted Weiss would be mortified and dying of embarrassment when finally freed from the Nightmare Grimm.....after revealing so much of your inner psyche even to your best friends involuntarily is still pretty traumatizing in and of itself.....I know I'd want to go hide under a rock, too.

John J Ronald

I think the main difference in how Weiss was freed from the Nightmare Possession differently than Blake....don't forget about Blake's shadow clone ability.....the Nightmare was exploiting/controlling one of Blake's Shadow Clones....she climbed out of it but the Clone remained behind to fight them, controlled by the Nightmare.

Penultimate. :P Also, I knew I was gonna have to do this…. /shakes can…. PSHHHHHHHH! I need more bug spray! 😆 Now that those shenanigans are out of the way…. First, it seems that Negative Blake is so vastly opposed to Negative Weiss that it’s inadvertently causing a chain reaction in Weiss’ thought process that the Nightmare isn’t accounting for. Weiss, as we know, isn’t really a bad person, she’s just damaged. At her core she isn’t a hateful being. Blake’s obviously got some demons she is repressing as well: who wouldn’t, after what she’s been put through? But the way she’s lashing out makes me think she does have yet to come to terms with some of her darker traits. Meanwhile, Yang is just over here, driving on walks and getting… fired up? Sorry, I had to. Amidst all the chaos when she broke the statue, she ended up in its head and that’s where we see Weiss and Nicholas. There’s a reason Nicholas has been kind of the centerpiece of Weiss’ dream: the replay Yang sees is one of the few times in her childhood Weiss truly was happy. It was highly inferred that Nicholas passed on during the Schnee Dust Company WOR, though never actually confirmed. If we’re taking this scene to be possible canon, Weiss appears to be about six or so. We know when she turned ten us when the relationship with her parents went really south, and it also explains a lot about Whitley, as he would’ve been too young to know his grandfather. “Build a castle in your heart with the friends you will one day meet.” The dream is kind of doing this, although it’s obviously twisted. But I think the real inference that was trying to be passed on is more metaphorical in that he was trying to tell her not to just rely on herself, but to build trust with her friends, because we know how strong Team RWBY is when they’re all in sync. As well as when they work with JNPR as well. It’s interesting that the two negative characters react very directly to seeing the other possesses by a Nightmare, and they’re both using the term judgment. But as we learn, the true desires of both are still in there, and it seems seeing a friend under duress is actually what’s going to help them snap out of their own funk. Speaking of, I KNEW THAT SHADOW LINE WAS IMPORTANT. So the fake Nightmare is a decoy, and that’s why Ruby’s gun was backwards: she was supposed to be aiming behind her. If you read more into it, it’s probably not too far off to say the lesson here, is the biggest challenge you need to overcome is yourself. Jaune using the sword is interesting. First the Arma Jacques lost its leg because it stepped on the sword in the first place. Also when the Weisses and Pyrrha help Jaune raise the sword to deal the final blow, it’s strangely reminiscent of when Pyrrha used her Semblance to assist Jaune when he fought the Ursa to protect Cardin in Volume 1, even though he had no idea she was doing it. After Jacques is destroyed, his influence vanished from the overhead ceiling, which is kind of an indication Weiss is no longer under his influence. A couple things “stick” though; the fake Nightmare doesn’t disappear immediately after Ruby kills the real one. That seems odd. Also, considering it had been feeding on Weiss for weeks before this, when it escaped her I expected it to be bigger. It might, however, explain why this one disintegrated instead of turned into a seed. Now we’ve had several indications that this isn’t following the actual timeline, particularly with how Team RWBY meets up and who is involved at first, but bringing out the silver eyes, even unconsciously, and nobody noticing Ruby’s eyes glowing besides Ozpin? That’s a stretch: not to mention the trigger to activate the silver eyes isn’t self preservation, it’s a desire to protect others. While there are elements in this story that fit in with the canon timeline, this pretty much confirms that it’s a side tale. Of course now that Weiss is awake, Blake’s Nightmare is free to run rampant, and the whole place is going up in flames. Shion says the Nightmare burrowed in deeper than they expected. Well, no kidding, she took it on willingly, what exactly WERE you expecting? Shion’s a cool looking character but other than being a catalyst for exposition and a trigger for the story, we never really saw them… DO a whole lot. Feels like a bit of a letdown. It’s fun to see Blake and Yang actually have a brawl against each other, which makes me wonder who would beat who in Team RWBY one on one fights, but it’s kind of telling that Blake’s consciousness becomes present when Yang shatters the White Fang mask. Honestly, this is a much more benign occurrence, but it looks kinda like a retread of Ahsohka and Vader from Rebels this week, doesn’t it? With the eye sticking out? Anyway, Blake wants to use the coin to wake herself up, but the Aura around it flickered before she could use it, but then she saw Adam staring at her and she’s like “there’s no way in heck I’m going to become you.” She pretty much used that motivation to will herself out of the Nightmare version. Both Weiss and Blake couldn’t do it alone though, they had their friends to help pull them out of it… literally. Which gets back to the point Nicholas made in the flash point: Weiss and Blake are growing stronger not in spite of their friends - but because of them. Another reason this is non canon would be that Weiss starts to be grateful to Jaune for helping, but it’s too early. As we know in the first part of Volume 2, she’s still pretty cold towards him until she learns his motivations are “pure” towards her at the dance arc. It’s kind of ironic how Weiss immediately reacts to Blake the same way Ruby did, and kicks herself for not recognizing it. Um, Ice Queen…. not only is Blake not the instigator of this, but we made a whole series out of it… she’s not coming out of that bunk bed for an entire month, is she? 😅 I think it’s safe to say, this whole adventure has been, without a doubt, the WEIRDEST slumber party ever. But I suppose that’s part of the charm. Me: “You we’re just out training, girls, does trouble just go looking for you?” RWBY: “It does seem to pretty much know where we are, yeah.” Last but not least: The title of the next episode is “Best Day Ever.” Thus is the same title as V2C1. Which can only mean one thing: FOOD FIGHT! Some quick housekeeping notes. I mentioned it previously, but a mini album is due to release on Sep. 21 with music from the series. I don’t know what all will be on it. And it was announced TODAY, that the English Dubs of this will start coming out on Sep. 25. Since we’ll be done next week, I don’t know if re reacting is something to do, but I know you’re interested in hearing the OGs take their shot. Now you can. It also gives me a theory that they might announce the V9 date when they’re done cranking these out. I wrote yet another essay, didn’t I. Sorry, RWBY in particular gets my head spinning like crazy. 😅

Long comments. I'll just keep it simple and say hi here 👋 😊

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Oh no, I'm sorry, I forgot to!!!! Hope your ears are okay lol! Yes the animation was awesome. Lol yup makes total sense she was so embarrassed! Hehe you were so right about the nicknames! That's what I'm thinking - epilogue that preps for season 2 or segues the show into main RWBY somehow. I guess we'll see!!

kamenriderhime

Yes!!!! I noticed it right away. It would be fun to see the activities!!! I'd be down for the food fight too!!! Awww lol makes total sense about Weiss right?! I guess we'd all be feeling a bit shy under those circumstances haha.

kamenriderhime

Ohhhhhh true, that's a great point about the shadow clone! Didn't even think of that. Good call!

John J Ronald

I mean, arguably Ruby's surprise silver eyes activation is a last desperate act to protect Weiss from the Nightmare, not self-preservation....it just feels like a stretch based on the cinematography....it's indirect and abstract whereas all other instances of its use have been direct and concrete. Also, Maria said of silver eyes it was about creating a state of mind you can draw on later as needed....And Maria's own use of silver eyes in the canyon against the Nevermore was an act of self-preservation in the moment as much as Ruby's action here if not more so.

Tyler Stobbe

Except your argument leaves out one important point: Maria already KNEW how to activate her silver eyes when fighting the Nevermore. Ruby doesn’t know how to channel it at this point, so up until she receives Maria’s guidance it only activates when she’s in a protective mode. Logically speaking, her activation here doesn’t make any canonical sense: plus the fact that she shouldn’t have needed to do it in the first place, as the real Nightmare was already gone. It’s fan service.

kamenriderhime

Yes, I have to remember that word! Hahaha no amount of bug spray will ever make me stop!!! >.< So true that the negative versions are creating a scenario the nightmare didn't account for. When both their issues are held up to a mirror, it helps Weiss to realize who she is, or at least who she isn't. Hahah Yang getting fired up, a Yang joke within a Yang sentence, I like it! I'd never really thought about whether or not Weiss got to meet her grandfather, but it makes sense. Also makes sense Whitley would be the most impacted by the family without having any influence from his grandpa. And yeah it's weird but, the nightmare did kinda do a twisted version of what he said! Yeah the use of the word judgment by them both is interesting, and also the fact that they both snapped out of it due to a friend in trouble. Oooh, that's very profound and I wouldn't be surprised if it is in the subtext - about overcoming yourself. Good call that the nightmare didn't immediately die, also Weiss' was rather small. Yeah I never really saw it as canon to begin with, but that's a good point about the confirmation. Yeah Blake signing up for the nightmare gives it much more of a grip, I'm sure. And yeah, I'd love to see Shion more!! It's a shame they didn't get to do much here, although I get that's not the exact point of the story. Hahahahaha omg total Vader/Ahsoka vibes with the eye sticking out, oof!!!!!! Such a good call. I think the food fight is the closest we'll ever get to our crew doing in-fighting besides this, although it is fun to wonder. Yeah Blake saw Adam and was like "see ya" haha. But this couldn't be done alone, such a good point. Definitely reinforces what Nicholas tried to impart. Also good call that this rearranges Weiss' feelings about Jaune as well. Hahaha pretty sure the bunk bed is Weiss fort of embarrassment and shame now! YES, I noticed Best Day Ever right away! Thanks for the reminder about the album! Oh and the dubs!!! Hmm, not sure if I'll re-react but I definitely wanna check it out. Hahahha trouble has got our girls' number!!! And no worries, sorry for taking a while to write you back! Just wanted to make sure I could really read and internalize all your feedback!!! Thanks so much!

The end of the arc....it was nice to see this new take on RWBY...and also, I never knew I needed a very embarassed Weiss in my life until I saw this episode xD What could we have for the epilogue next time, I wonder :p
